1. Just behind the pickup & with a pick.
2. Beautiful looking bass
3. I am 50 this year & my wife asked me if I wanted a bass (not expensive) to mark the occasion. I have my Am.Std Precision in Olympic white / Maple neck strung with flats. I looked at the V4MTB only £248 classic look and if I put rounds on it, then I'll have the best of both sounds. Here is my question though is the body a full Fender body thickness, and not the thinner Squier type of body (it is a pet peeve of mine). And what is the weight like on these? Does anyone here own one and is the neck pocket thickness the same as a MIM/MIA Precision? I don't want her to spend a lot on a bass, that may not get used as much as my Am.Std. Just thinking as well how wide is the nut on this bass? Thanks in advance
4. When I got my Am.Std Precision back in Jan'15 it was £1171 almost 2 years on, £329 more gets you a '63 shaped neck & taller frets. new pickups & fluted tuners.
5. I hope he gets his basses back I'm sure in an interview he did a few years ago, he mentioned that someone had tried to nick his '61 Precision before.
6. I prefer the post 2012 Am.Std Precision's, & am still glad I managed to get my 2014 Am.Std .
7. I had the black one a very good bass to own.
8. I always loved the look of these basses, enjoy it
9. Nice looking bass just read Sting's interview, in this months BGM.
10. It's only the thinner bodies that put me off Squier's, yet the CV series was full body thickness.
11. I personally doubt Fender will drop the American made Standard basses, they could offer the Elite as a 1 or 2 pickup version & rename them the American Elite Series. As said in an above thread people (me included) want that big F word, and the better wording underneath Made In U.S.A. It would be like Ferrari making their cars in France there is heritage and history to take into consideration.
12. I have an original '64 500/1 (May 24th) s.n 687, which I have owned for the past 28 years Haven't played it much since 1998 as I went back to full scale basses, still love it though .
13.
Was his tech a guy with a Belfast accent? My friend Dave has regularly been his tech in the past.
All I remember is that he had a pony tail, but a friendly guy to talk to.
14. The pedal board in question. Can anyone turn these pictures the right way please.
15.
Agreed, which he tends to use on 'Start'.
Yes I read the headstock wrong & yes he had the Ashdown rig. Hopefully these will now load. The pedal board I'm not sure if it was Bruce's or the guitarists.
16. Having trouble loading the pictures any advice ?
17. From The Jam are playing where I work tonight, so throughout the day they have been setting up for tonight's show. I have always liked Foxton as a bassist & liked the tone he got with the Rickenbacker. His guitar tech allowed me to take a couple of pictures of his gear, that he is using tonight. His main bass is his Fender Precision Japanese '57, which was left in the guitar holder so headstock shots only. His backup Precision was a Mex Fender Classic '50's with the gold scratchplate, a very nice looking bass as well. The third was a Washburn semi acoustic which I only caught the headstock.Strings and picks were both from Rotosound,it looked like the picks were .96mm. I will have to find this picture on my phone, there was a pedal board but not sure if it was his or the guitarists. Hope the show goes well.
18. Well done to you for liking and enjoying what "you" want to own .
19.
Many people say the early 80s Squires are as good as US ones (build quality and sound-wise), though I've not tried one myself. They normally go for the same price as used MIJ's, which is still a lot less than US ones. I used to have a '89 Squire P bass made in Korea (the early MIK basses were made from the same parts as the mid 80s Squire basses because when production moved from Japan to Korea, they just shipped all the necks, bodies and pickups across, and they were assembled in Korea instead of Japan. That bass played and sounded really good, far superior to any Fender MIM P bass I've played. I've read Fenders from the 70s and perhaps the 80s are not that good. I think large prices for these are paid because they look cool, and they do. If I had a choice between a 80s Fender P bass and a Squier JV 80s P Bass, I would choose the Squier, and treat myself with the cash I save.
I have an '89 MIK Squier Precision & I doubt they were leftover Japanese parts. The JV's were full body thickness were as the MIK's were thinner, and the body wood on mine is plywood and not the solid wood used on the JV. Plus my guess is that Samick who made mine used there own bodies & hardware, with the only exception being they could use a Fender headstock on the Squier's .But I may be wrong this is just my take on it with my own S9 MIK Squier.
20. I to started playing in the 1980's (87 to be precise), I remember Dixon's selling the JV Strat,& Precision with an amp for £199. My best mate bought one (the Strat) and it was a really nice guitar, and the first bass I ever played was the Squier JV '57 Precision.I Saw one for sale on Andy Baxter's site last year for £1250, 6 times more than it was new so I got a brand new Fender American Standard Precision. I just couldn't justify that price for a Squier I still like that bass though, wish I'd bought it back in '87.
21. What a fantastic setup you have there genuine '64 & reissue '63, and the Ampeg Heritage you have everything covered .
22. One bass that I had that was very light was a Peavey Cirrus BXP 4, the only drawback for me was that it was 35" scale.
23. What about the Vintage V4 P bass clone, I have heard that they are light weight.
24. Very nice & does it play & feel like a CS bass?
25. Like you artisan I to will turn 50 in August 2017 (where has the time gone) hope you find yourself a good bass, this has got me thinking now though do I drop enough hints to my family .
