3.
Hi Peter Just to say a big thanks for the contra arrived today excellent amp with a big natural sound might even be able to do without my fishman pre anyway thanks for sorting it out i know you where mega busy over the bank holidays regards Al
Hi Al Glad you are happy with it. I'll hold the funds in Paypal for a few days to make sure you are happy with the amp. Yes you should be able to do without the pre for most gigs. However it might help you to dial out "boomy" lows in certain problem venues. Yes Just back from the Derry Jazz festival where I played 9 gigs with a variety of musicians. By the last gig my middle finger was forming a blood blister. I just about made it. It was worth it for all the pain. Next time I'll do more pizz practice coming up to the festival. Please report back in a few days and let me know how you are getting on with the amp. Best regards P

 5. ACOUSTIC IMAGE DOUBLE BASS AMP. Original This amp costs well over a grand when bought in the Uk. I bought it from new. It has served me well. It consists of a 400w CLASS D amp and a front firing 5inch driver and a 10inch floor firing woofer. It is a specialist amp for the Double Bass. The Electric Bass can be used at low volumes eg Shows and Pit work. Suitable for Keyboards too. A very HiFi uncoloured sound. One of the best sounding amps you can get for the Double bass. Do a search on Talk Bass.com for professional bassists opinions. The grill over the 'down firing' speaker is missing though it doesn't affect the sound. Also selling the CONTRA EXTENSION CABINET. This cabinet is as new with original dust cover. It has been gigged less than a dozen times. Will sell separately . Amp £180 (given its age) and contra ex. £250 Buyer from mainland uk would have to cover shipping. I can email pics. Thanks for looking.

 11.
I don't suppose so, but before I splash out new, anyone wanting to part with one of these? 1/4-20 thread size. Thanks
Hi I have a spare one for sale. I'm in Ireland too. I need to check which thread type it is. Have you a Luthier to put it in for you? 100 EURO best regards Peter
 12.
How bad is 'not too bad'? atm my strings are hardest to bow on the E and A. Are the belcantos full steel? I need that for my mag.
I found the Jazzers impossible to bowBut that was over 10 years ago. And same with the Spiros until I improved by bowing technique. I prefer to use Belcantos on all strings for the bass that I use for classical music. They have a twisted steel rope core so I imagine they'd amplify fine with your magnetic pick up. I have used the Belcantos for lots of Pizz only gigs and they were good. Not as long a sustain or volume acoustic wise but they amplify for me just fine. My other bass was strung with Spiros and I would often go between the two basses and found that over time there wasn't the huge difference that I remembered. However If I was on a pressure gig that required subtle bowing I wouldn't risk the Spiros. There are many players that use Spiros exclusively for bowing. Not sure what you meant by "atm". Perhaps it might be best if you could borrow a set of Spiros and or Belcantos to try them out. Hope this is of some help.
 13.
Thinking of bumping spirocore steels - how would they be to bow? Would detuned solos be better? I'm having a terrible time bowing pirastro jazzers, but I have to stick with steels for the mag pickup. Lower tension would be nice too. Any thoughts?
Keep the Spiro E and A and try Belcantos on the G and D . Once you break the spiros in they are not too bad. The Belcantos are very easy to bow and their pizz is pleasing to my ear. The E and A spiro will give you plenty of low end growl.

 15.
i've just bought a double bass but now i need to learn to play it properly before i damage myself! kinda hard cuz i can't keep my hands off it but i'm thinking some beginner dvd's are the way to go so i get off to a good start and get the absolute basics right i've seen the 'Essential Techniques For Acoustic Bass' todd phillips dvd's recommended so if anyone is ready to move them on i'm interested or let me know what else you've got/would recommend.
There are very good online lessons available(free) that will put you on the right road technique wise. eg 'Andrew Anderson teaches double bass' is worth a look. However you would be better spending some money on lessons from a good teacher.
 16.
I would like to try an Arcus bow someday to see how they compare though.
I tried the Arcus Sinfonia for a week, It's a 4\4 sized bow which I didn't like. However it is paper light and pulls a huge dark sound with a strange 'sizzle' on my bass. I can see it being attractive to lots of players. Just not this one. I ended choosing a D Muniz wood bow instead.
 17.
Hi Guys Has anyone out there got a really old set of Spirocre Weiches?, I'm after the E, A. D to match my old Olives I need a bit more punch and stability and know this would work on my bass. Cheers Laurence
Just Curious Lawrence. I have recently put on an Olive G and D with my old Mittles. The Mittles are a little underpowered by comparison on my bass. I would have thought the Weichs would be a little wimpy. Those Olives are great though. peter
 18. Bump for this cab. I have one now for a bout 5 years. Probably the best cab I've ever owned. I use it as my 'big rig' with a Focus. good luck with the sale
 19. Without knowing your playing experience it's difficult to give advice. Jazzers are difficult to bow but should not necessarily feel excessively stiff. Commonly used hybrid strings are Obligatos and Evah Pirazzis. Both should be reasonably easy to bow and produce a good pizz sound. You should look at other factors such as string height and perhaps your technique if you are feeling fatigue with pizz.
 20. Hi No matter which books you choose I think you have to make a decision. Do you want to learn the Double bass or do you just want to play. The technical demands of the double bass are so great that I don't think there is a shortcut to obtaining good technique. I really think you need to spend some time with the bow and get lessons even if they are only once a month. This will help your intonation no end and Pizz will be a breeze by comparison. Many of the books cover similar things. And although the Simandl is rather stuffy it does cover a lot of stuff. You should consider getting some repertoire pieces and working through them. The Rufus Reed book is worth considering also.
 21. Welcome to the world of Double bass. Enjoy your journey.
 22. Hi Bass Bod It's refreshing to see a realistic appraisal of gear warts and all. Did you buy it straight from the manufacturer?
 23.
I've heard a lot of good things about the Ten2...but not heard one yet. I recently moved to a EA Micro and Barefaced Midget - very happy with the results for both plank and EUB. I previously used a EA500 with a single or pair of CXL110s. The new set up almost matches the performance of both CXL110 used together...but weighs about a third.
Hi Bass Bod I have to confess I have never heard of the Barefaced Midget. Just googled it ...impressive claims. So how do they perform for Double bass in the real world?
 24.
Bergantino 1x12 will give you the missing lows and light weight Marvin
Hi Slobluesine Thanks for the reply. Is that the AE112? What pick up and amp are you putting through it? Peter
