1. Put the Jazz in the bin and buy a Precision
2. 10 in 2009. We have had a major personnel change to deal with that limited us. We like to spread them apart to keep the turnout reasonably high. Can't overdo it though otherwise there's no time to write or record new stuff. Damn this day job to Hell. We'll probably do about 15 or so this year.
3. I'm on my last pack of Roto RS66LD's. I like 'em. But maybe it's time to see if there's better for me out there. I've tried. D'addario - too dull. Elite Stadiums - underwhelmed. Flats are a no-no. Love the ease of playing but they don't suit the band at all. I play a Precision with a plinktron © and like a fairly dirty and unsophisticated Burnell/Entwhistle type sound.
4. Good work. Top songs. I bet you're fun live.
5. Top stuff. I had a little groove going on listening to that. Like it.
6. Thanks acidbass. Glad you enjoyed it.
7. Done with a cheapo digital camera in a couple of hours off time at rehearsal. I don't think it's too shabby.
8. Please tell me you play C&W with it. That's fab.
9.
Interesting I will do. I'm already the poshest punk of the year.
10.
I do too, but only if there's someone in the audience I want to impress...
Me too. I never use no.6 though. Maybe I should have it removed along with 8-20? It'd make the neck shorter and easier to play too.
11. "Play nuttin above the 5th fret" Aston Family Man Barrett. He's got a point. I do stretch to no. 7 every now and then.
12. P Bass>Sansamp>Trace Elliott seems to work.
13. Have a bump on me. I've got one and I like it a lot. Not the most portable beasty but I like the reassuring brick outhouse vibe.
14. Weird. Unless your actually shagging your bass. Although that would be even weirder.
15.
Here's another great pic of a Precision. And Ginger Reyes from Smashing Pumpkins...
Bad ass
16. That's the sort of thing Ray. Could do with another original band or two though. Go and write some songs. If I can do it anyone can. Back on to this next week. I've got a non band guy who's up for sorting this out.
17. I'm a huge punk fan. But not this new fangled stuff. I've never heard of any of those bass players. Punk for me stopped when the mohican came to the fore and all the bands started sounding the same. Ska for me is the Ethipoians, Lord Tanamo, Roland Alphonso, etc. I wish they'd call it something else.
18. I really like 'em. Never had a problem. Tried a few others including Elites, D'addario and Ernie Ball and was underwhelmed in comparison. Maybe they suit some basses better than others? Great on a precision for me.
19. Very nice. Can just picture Gaye Advert with that now
20. I've tried Elites and D'addario chromes on the P. Flats just don't suit how I play or get the sound I'm after. Much easier on the fingers though. After playing for a bit now I've decided my prefereces are for a fairly chunky rosewood neck strung with rotosounds (I know they get a lot of stick on here but I love the old cheesegraters), played with a 1mm pick and a wizard thumper.
21.
No, everyone should have two! One strung with flats, one strung with rounds!
I tried flats on precision no 2 with great hopes. Yuk. Not for me. If it was a vehicle a Precision would be a Transit van filled with big boxes of straightforward bass. I love 'em.
22. 2 out of 3 of those hurt my eyes. The G3 looks OK though.
23. Apologies if this has been put on before. My guitarist sent it to me. I don't know what he is inferring? Watch him go at 1:10
