1. I heard Hit Me With Your Rythm Stick was speeded up quite substantially taking it up from E to F. Common practice in the 70s to do this to give songs more punch.
2. There is going to be a meet up next Thursday at Happy Jack's suggestion. PM either of us if you want to hop aboard.
3. Top stuff. I played my first gig for 21 years at the age of 44. It's just the best feeling doing gigs now. I'm in the 46 club too now. Do we get jackets?
4. As I've mentioned before. On non DI gigs 8/10 for the soundcheck on full for the gig. "You sound louder" "How can I? I haven't touched the amp"
5.
Hmmmm... Anyone fancy a quick game of 'Let's stereotype the Biker'?
I'm probably more qualified than most for that! Bikes have paid my wages for many years. Maybe the gig'll be full of all the gear no idea hoorays from Barnes with matching white leathers on asking for Simply Red songs.
6. There's only one way to find out........ ......FIGHT!.....
7. I swapped out my S1 pickup for a Wizard Thumper. Now a problem with the vol pot is sorted I love it. Just got a bit more beef all round to the sound now. The S-1 pick up wasn't too bad at all either. I just wanted a bit more oomph. The S1 switch did bear a passing resemblance to a Jazz tone. That's why I binned it I've got two more Precisions fitted with Dimarzio model P's. One has high output but misses a little of top end zing. The cream one was a NOS 70s find in a junk shop in the states. It's got the slightly more output than the new one but has a lot more treble and less low end.
8. OK as I've got a bit of interest I'll arrange an informal meeting in the 'private room' of my local. Maybe January would be best? I reckon we can get some cracking, good fun gigs out of this. PM me people if you want to join in the midlife crisis music scene syndicate.
9.
Good idea - my lot might be up for it and we're ( sort of ) based in West London . Any love for a Hawkwind tribute band with a few orginals as well ?
Oh yeah I love Hawkwind. This is getting like the Greasy Truckers..... The West London Band collective gathers steam.
10. In the end I took it back to Chandlers. The 500k algothingy pot was swapped for a 250k linear and the measured 13.2K thumper is pumping out as it should now. They were actually very good about it and did it on the spot. Happy now
11.
Define "complementary". Do you want another originals band, or a covers band? If the latter, then my lot might well be up for it.
Define it. It seems I can't even spell it A band we could get along with. All mucking in, having fun and of a similar age group. No big egos. More or less sensible people with nothing to prove. We're aged 36, 46 & 49. Covers or originals would be fine. I think covers would be a pretty good mix. The audience we get, plus standard pub regulars would probably find it a relief to hear some songs they actually know.
12. We're looking to do a lot more gigs next year. We want to up our 6-8 weeks frequency. We're re-launching the band (as we are now a three piece) with a new name after the next gig. We would also like to be able to team up on a loose basis with another complimentary band to split gigs with. We suit a 45 minute set as we only do originals and it would be nice to sell us as a package with another band to venues. Selfishly I'm looking at West London/Middlesex/Surrey. Maybe I can get a 'scene' going Any venue suggestions? Local'ish bands who want to team up? We're in it for fun not money but we do take it seriously as well. We even get paid quite well normally as we bring a fair few. We're well known for the quality of our presentation. Website, flyers, turning up on time, etc. too. Band links in my signature. Ad
13. My name is LEB and I am a gasaholic I haven't had a bass since September 2008 Then again I haven't had any disposable wedge since then either.
14.
I had one of those and a slave version too running two Electrovoice 1x15s in late '70s. It sounded great (at the time). I don't recall what happened to that rig, I certainly don't remember selling it.
I can't remember what happened to mine either? Perhaps they escape and roam free in a field somewhere like the one in the pic.
15. My first gigging bass amp in 79-81 was one of these matched with an ex sound system 1x18 cab Loved the sound at the time.
16.
Like the football analogy is any less useful than Bilbo using Branford Marsalis as an example!
Isn't Branford Marsalis left back for Sporting Lisbon then?
17. Think of music/songs like football. Bass players are the hard tackling, short passing midfielder. A bit like Dave Mackay. We drive the team forward. If you all play and do your jobs well you'll get a good result. We all know who the prima donna goal hangers with all the tricks and no end product are though....
18. I love my Digitech Bad Monkey. More overdrive growl than distortion though.
19. At a recent gig the other bands bass player played one of these (with rounds on) through my Trace and it sounded huge. Not remotely like the one dimensional thump I was expecting.
20. How about: Write some lyrics Fit some chords to them Try lots of basslines in different styles to go with it At worst at least you've written a song.
21. "On that bass forum you're on- can you ask a question for me. My friend has a bass. On the headstock is 'Roger'. Detective work over the years has told him it's a Roger Rossmeissl, the fella who made the Rickenbacker classics. But he was wondering what more info he could find. If he could date the thing by serial number etc. Can you see if anyone knows anything and I could get you a picture maybe? It looks like it's a 50s 60s thing. You sometimes see Roger guitars (£1000+) but Basses are never to be seen." OK I'm asking That's not an attractive headstock. The rest looks cool though. Any ideas?
22.
Maybe part of it is him asking to not be featured?
I wouldn't want anyone to know I was in the BJ's either.
23. Looks like a tin opener.
24. Photos up tomorrow. Mrs LEB has the camera on a jolly tonight.
25. I've whipped the pickguard off. They've put a 500k pot in place of the 250k Fender S1 original. The only lettering I can read is '0924 CTS' the rest is obscured by a bird poo of solder. The receipt just says "CTS pot"
