1. How about a Squier VM Jazz bass?
2. I gave up for 18 years. I wouldn't recommend it. All that time I wasted on work, motorbikes, mortgages, girlfriends and wives could have been better spent on rock n roll debauchery. Plus I might actually be able to play bass properly by now. £61 for the Shuker.
3. I bought a set of Elite flats on a whim and put them on the mongrel P last week. After years of rounds I'm really interested to see how they fare at practice on Wednesday. They sound lovely at home.
4. "LEB's balsa wood rehearsal drum sticksTM" Coming soon to a store near you.
5. I like the shape a lot. 4EQ? I can just about get my head around 1 passive tone.
6. The Half Moon in Putney will pay you on an escalating scale depending how many tickets you sell that works well. We rammed 130 in there for Halloween last year and it was a lovely earner and last band is off by 11. Last month we only managed 60 but it was still a good night. I'm up for arranging 'club nights' for us and another one or two bands that factor in finishing at a reasonable time so the punters can get home and not getting dicked around by venues. I have a few venues up my sleeve if anyone's interested.
7. Luvverly.
8. We had our first rehearsal as a 3 piece last night. I was blown away by how much punchier we were. The 'spaces' really made the songs. I simplified my parts a couple of times during guitar solos and the drummer compensated really well too. The dynamics were top notch. I didn't find I needed to increase my volume in the mix at all. Especially as I could hear what all 3 of us were playing so much better now. Hell I even tried BVs (football terrace style is the best I can manage though) for the first time. I'm really looking forward to our open air gig on Sunday rather than dreading it now. Can you tell I enjoyed it
9. Precisions. Utilitarian chic. Always cool (as long as they don't have white scratchplates) I do like the look of Ricks a lot though though. especially the all black jobbies. I would go out for a pint with the Flea fellow. Don't care at all for his recordings though.
10. People have told me I'm an unskilled simpleton because I only use a pick. This is of course correct.
11. Back on topic. I think we'll give them a choice of two from four. I think we'll probably know from that if they're up for it. It's pretty simple stuff as the last guy was no guitar hero (although he was an excellent lyricist and motivator) and it was written to accommodate that. What could be worse than auditioning for an hour with everybody not enjoying it? Competency and enthusiasm over a superstar performer will be fine. As long as we can get along on a social level and our aims and tastes are near enough. I've learnt from employing at work that people can get better but they very rarely get nicer. Thanks for the advice. I won't be taking photos or doing quizzes though. Maybe just a quick psychometric test though....
12.
I liked Airplay, but it was well pricey for what you got. Did Ian ever finish building that studio at the end of the corridor?
It's finished......more or less. Pricey but we get perks.
13. I've got an open air gig on Sunday and due to my 2 month old Trace combo going back for warranty work (the graphic EQ has turned into a mute ! grrrrrrr!) I'll be relying solely on a sansamp programmable BDDI. I'm thinking a little raised platform, WD40, cling film and my four year olds Spiderman umbrella gaffer taped to the stage should do it.
14.
They used to have Trace stacks and Marshall JCM 900's.
and Roland jazz chorus combos. Ever heard the distortion channel on one of those? A wasp in a tin can sounds better.
15. Thanks silddx. I know Survival well. Like it too. We rehearse at Airplay in Ashford as it suits us geographically. I like the one easy, one more difficult idea a lot. Makes good sense. And bassbloke. Good ideas there too. None of the songs are too demanding for the newbie as the one he's replacing was technically limited. We've got plenty of recorded material so that's not a problem. It'll be a good gig for someone as he'll be given carte blanche to re-jig his parts as long as they fit OK.
16. We've recently 'parted company' with one of the founder members of our band. We can make do in the interim as a trio but it's no good for longer sets. I can't contribute much vocally as, hard as I might try I still sound like Arthur Mullard. Looks like we're going to want a new 2nd guitarist who needs to share vocal duties too. We started off as a mid life crisis hobby band 3 and a half years ago but are now headling gigs, selling CDs and all that stuff! We're going to be on the cover mount CD for Classic rock mags November issue for chrissakes. Anyway it's all original stuff so how do we hold an audition for the new bloke? How long do we give them? What do we get them to play? Where do we advertise? Can I wear high waistband trousers and pretend to be Simon Cowell? Any other tips?
17. Good stuff. You must be chuffed. This leads me on to another thread.....
18. Just need to find a donor body
19. If I got it for Christmas I'd want a gift receipt. Looks like a chopping block with a couple of marital aids attached.
20.
Ah, the master is mentioned at last. Felix was the man.
Not a great choice of missus though  And a very weird choice to produce the Dead Boys 'Young, Loud and Snotty' LP
21. Wasn't me. Biting my tongue whilst playing some tasty root notes at a gig in Putney.
22. I love the look of these. However my first bass was a mid 70s jap EB0 copy in poo brown with an action you could drive a bus under and hardware made out of bacofoil. It's put me off even physically touching one ever since.
23. A former St Clement Danes pupil. Like Glen Matlock, Mikey Craig from Culture Club and moi. All of us with exemplary attendance and exam records.....
24. Names are important. As Peter Eustinov said. Sophia Loren wouldn't have married Carlo Ponti if he was english. Charlie Bridges doesn't sound half as sophisticated.
25. You can stuff yer Glastonbury, Woodstock, Mount Fuji. I'm doing the Brentford Festival on 6th September. In the p***ing rain most probably.
