Heresy committed. I've put that set of Prosteels I mentioned before on. The JMJ now sounds big, punchy and nasty. Perfect for me.It feels a lot more rock n roll. I do like it with flats but I much prefer it with rounds. The neck doesn't need any tweaking. The set up is still bang on.The string tension feels a little less too.

This is always my preferred way as well. I'm sure the happy smiling face (maybe an exaggeration in some cases) of a sound person when you inform them your DI'ing from a Sansamp has got me from a muddy afterthought to actually sounding like an actual bass in the mix a few times too.

I wanted to sound like Jean-Jacques Burnel when I bought my Avon EBO in 1978. I thought all basses sounded the same. I think it cost £135. According to google that equates to £667 in 2019. Plywood. Fake single coil. Awful build quality. I ended up sounding like I was playing a rubber band stretched over a shoe box. It also had an action you could limbo under. Truly a terrible thing that needed killing with fire. Modern entry level basses are so much better. Amazing to think you can quite happily gig with something that costs £100 new now.

After a proper set up I agreed to keep with the flats for a month or so as they seem to suit it. it’s playing really well now and I’m trying to adjust my playing by using a thinner plectrum with a lighter touch. I normally bash away at a Precision with a 1.07 big triangular job. I suspect I will end up with roundwounds though.

I bought a JMJ last week. I'm really enjoying it...... apart from the flats. I'm sticking a set of medium scale D'Addario Pro Steels (45-100) on it next week. I'll let you know how I get on.

Well. This has been an expensive day.

Orange Terror 500. I loved that beefy sound. It was the best I've come across at sitting in the mix with a noisy trio. I didn't and still don't need a versatile amp. I only got rid of it as it was an early hot DI model that no amount of frigging around with xlr attenuators could satisfactorily sort. I was playing 95% DI'd gigs at the time. I might have to get one of the new ones if the DI is fit for purpose now. I'm very happy with my current TC Classic but it hasn't quite got the 'in yer face' of the OTB.

I used to run my OTB through a TC Electronic RS210 and/or RS112 cabs. It sounded glorious. I preferred it to the Barefaced ones I tried with it.

That looks lovely.

New Squier Classic Vibes for pre-order at Thomann

I worked in a music shop late 70s as a yoof. To be fair that is period correct for a lot of Fenders output at the time. -
The JMJ is on the list. I far prefer a P to a J neck and I believe this is more of a hand filler.

I'm having a day off next Wednesday and I'm going to try all the Mustang varieties. No doubt I'll end up with the expensive option.
-
Could well be. I'm not that sharp sometimes.
-
Cancelled my order too. Confirmed this morning that there are no Squier Mustangs until Feb/March. I do have a severe Jones for one though so I may go Vintera in Fiesta Red. Lollipops...

At gigs it has been remarked that I bear a resemblance to Alf Garnet and Greg Wallace. I don't know what bands they are in though? -
Shipment delayed Looks like all the new Squiers are held up.I blame Boris.

£319 at 9 months interest free. Was rude not to. If I get on with I'll probably be ordering a b/w/b scratchplate as I'm not a tort fan. I'm hoping this will be a good garage/punk machine.

Just pulled the trigger on a new Mustang in white from Andertons. Will report back.

I'd like to see Yes do this...

What are you listening to right now?

I'm compiling a list of left field 70s stuff for a possible left field covers project. I'm liking this slice of New York CBGB's oddness.
