Probably a fine bass, but it does nothing for me.

I was going to say, that I prefer no tape on my knob, especially the gaffer/duct variety. It's probably not the forum to explain how I know this, but if I did, I might no longer be a member of a certain House of Lords 'club'. Thanks PW for the tip, gonna have to order some of them.

As I don't have a P bass or a J bass, my preference is to play may basses telekinetically. The tone is sublime.

There was one in Australia a while back at a store I passed regularly. I gave it a look, and it was in VGC, but they were after $A1800/UKP1035. I laughed and left. It was still there ~2y later and they still wouldn't budge on price.

I have a whole bunch of headless basses; Steinberger (Newburgh), Spirit, Hohner (3), Status, some stock, some modified. There are also at least 3 waiting for me to finish building. I love the looks of the Riverheads too, just not enough strings. In the mean time I'm looking to fund an Ibanez EHB1006MS. Headless rules.

Nice bass, enjoy. The Bongo 6 is probably the only EBMM bass I'd actually pay money to own, but not at the prices they are in the Colonies. I got an infraction from one of the preciouses at TB for making a toilet seat inference after someone else posted a similar meme.

I can't think of anything off the top of my head that I'd spend more on and I've owned more than a few boutiques including a couple of Alembic Series. I love the tone, but they're an order of magnitude more than I would pay these days, and I paid little for them used >20ya. Maybe a Status if they were available again, or the right Modulus. I play Ibanez SR and BTB these days mostly. They feel good to me, sound fine and are modestly priced. I used the SR206 at a gig in December and everyone was happy with my performance and tone. Not seeing a reason to spend more.

Looks good in red. Pity the 6 doesn't come in that colour or I'd buy one. Welcome to the club.

My Steinberger and Status both surprise people who pick them up with how heavy they are. Not boat anchors by any means but not flyweight either. I have full bodied wood basses that are well on both sides weight wise to these two. KLOS are doing a 5 soon, but I'm not sure they'll do a 6.

I have a couple of Schaller Double Js from the 80s that are the same, so not a new concept as you said. The SIMS pickups work the same they just have the electronic switching incorporated in them.

If I wanted a very traditional P bass, this would definitely be top of my list as I've owned a couple of older versions and really liked them. That's saying a lot from me as I don't generally like traditional P basses, and I'm happy to hear the modern versions are just as good. Congratulations on the new bass and I hope you have a lot of fun with it.

Nope. Trading instruments was a hobby for many years, so I got to try a lot, MIA/J/M. Still have 3 dozen or so basses, and not one Fender. Almost all are overrated and overpriced with the best being MIJ and lawsuit clones.

The two webpages are quite detailed as to what they do so any person can decide if the differences are worthwhile for the additional cost; here the difference is $129/159. I have the original and only use it for practice, especially on the verandah. I have no idea what 'mellow' means to you. I know what it means to me but it's a nebulous term with a vast spectrum of meaning. Go look for YT clips that sound like what you hear in your head. There are plenty out there, many good.

I have no idea what that means. What sounds 'mellow' to you might not to anyone else. I'd be finding something I liked to play physically and swap in other pickups until I got the sound I wanted. Looking at what players who spend more time soloing play would help narrow it down for you, and would help others make suggestions. For example I have no problem 'soloing' on my Ibanez SRs and BTB when I'm in the mood to do so and they're used to play melodic lines with my friend when she pays her acoustic.

Any Ibanez SR or BTB. Very different ergonomics so you'll need to try before you buy. However Ibanez are very consistent dimensionally with modern basses, so play one SR (or BTB) 6 string and another will likely feel the same in terms of body and neck profile. Tone is impossible to define in words, so I suggest looking at a model that interests you and look for YT clips, if not of the same model, but at least with the same pickups. FTR, I have 4 SR and 1 BTB 6 string. I like them.
