1. Thanks, I will keep that in mind. Though in the meantime, I've knocked up a reasonable looking template in Photoshop, which is now sitting atop the bass in paper form! Looks OK. So I may have just solved the problem. (Obviously, I won't actually use paper for a scratchplate. That would be silly!)
2. I've got some parts from an old '70s Kay P Bass which I'm planning to try and revive into a working instrument. However, I'm missing the scratchplate and it appears that no P style templates I can find are even close! I will probably end up having to work something out myself, but I wondered if anyone might be able to point me in the direction of a template that would work. Or perhaps even a scratchplate itself, if you happen to have one knocking about!
3. Fair point, Happy Jack. I can understand what you mean. I must admit to some naivety in listing it on Ebay in the first place. But it did at least generate quite a bit of interest and I was genuinely pleased to find out what make it actually was after so many years. Is it OK to advertise Rick copies for sale on here? The Gherson Rick is certainly not lightweight. It's pushing 4kg without bridge pup and strings.
4.
Not a Greco or even Japanese. That's an Italian-made Gherson. Very interesting & much rarer than any JapCrap. Wonder why he's pretending it's a Greco? First random JapCrap name he could think of? Too bad they were never sold in the UK, then. J.
That was my auction. I still have the bass. For the record I certainly wasn't pretending that it was a Greco. Rather cynical of you to have assumed so. We don't all have an encyclopaedic knowledge of Rickenfakers.
