How any of us'd ever agree about anything more abstract, such as, erm, 'heft' is beyond me… Horses, courses…I think the default answer to the question "Is it just me…?" should really be 'probably'

I'd like to see that colour with the full chrome hardware - pup covers, surrounds, etc…

There's an authority to the amp, too, and a responsiveness to input I've rarely encountered.

Yup, I've just bought another one as a backup - never had an amp fail on me live, and I don't need the sound help with my amp, but now I've got one in my gigbag, I'm covered. With previous amps (LMIII, etc) I've used the BDI21 and the full-price Sansamps, and had great results. There's a link to a great price on them somewhere on here, too...

Thanks for the link, been pondering one just for a gigbag backup DI. Used one of these (and Sansamps) for a while when I had, erm, 'blander' amps (LMIII, etc), and for the money they're very very good. In a band context, sound wise, there's very very little difference between these and the 'real thing'. Not gonna be using it in my signal chain, as with the Magellan I don't need to, but as a DR backup, worth £20 all day...

The sheer practicalities of my gigging life apart, I'd be very interested to AB my present rig with a SVT/810 (preferably blind, to remove the 'phwoooar, lookit that' factor), just to see if what I remember about the sound really was all that in a live situation. I'm one of the people on here who always say "SVT/810" when dream rigs are mentioned, but it's been a loooong time since I played through one, and lots and lots of things I thought were fantastic back then might not be quite as I fondly recall. I had a shock when I bought a Rickenbacker a while back as I really didn't like it (though it looked great), and there's waaaay to much photographic evidence still remaining as to my fashion decisions which really don't bear scrutiny. I wonder if it's the same with my old big heavy rigs?

A couple of our dep drummers have very small light kits (one's a drum teacher who doesn't drive - he can get the whole thing on one of those little collapsible trolleys for public transport), but the subs are always still a pain. And we sometimes have a dep guitarist with a stupidly heavy 212 combo. Which no-one volunteers to carry... But the less weighty kit the band has overall, the less weight we all have to carry... And there's no-one but me to load my car in and out of the house...

Nothing iconic (there are some lines and riffs which definitely need to be right), but just adjustments to the original: no covers band (or even tribute band) has the same mix of talents as the original, so I go by what works best for the song and the band, and I don't kill myself about being exactly note for note.

I had an SVT and a fridge back in the day, because that was what you aspired to in the the genre I was playing (see pics above), but these days I use lighter, smaller kit because it sounds better and makes life easier. Why wouldn't I? Without wanting to join in on the 'well every bass player I know does this thing that supports my argument' Hoohah, I suspect if every bass player in the country was aware of all the options, things might be different. Oh, and anyone who judges themselves against the size/bulk of another player's rig (especially on the wimp/manliness scale) needs to have a good long look at themselves...

[/quote] I had a Fusion 500 for a while - I swapped it for my Streamliner, regretted it, and swapped it back - and it's got a distinct voicing, which I've seen described as 'growly', but was a little harsh for me: I'd put it more into 'barky'. If that's your tone goal, then fantastic, it just wan't mine. Obviously, it can be EQ'd away from that, but the core tone wasn't for me. I'd say the Magellan is a much more versatile amp, and of course will go to 800w at 2.67 ohms. IMHO, YMMV, etc. I'd recommend trying one out - Bass Direct have them in stock... If you want a more apples vs apples comparison money-wise, you'd need to look at the Fusion 800, which is pretty much the same money. Mind you, if you're using a single 112, the power uplift between 500 and 800 isn't really an issue...
