1. Same here - I received a package with my first Schroeder cab in it, the courier had put it down on the floor at the doorstep, got a signature and skidaddled rapid before I picked it up...when I did, something inside went 'thunk' very substantially...opened it up, and the magnet had sheared clean off the back of the basket on one of the 15s... Edit...Ooooo, same as El Bunny above
2. I've had three or four basses which started out with Delanos and I've changed them out (or sold the bass) every time. Don't like them; they sound sterile to me.
3. Having tried a 121H combo at a rehearsal with a loud drummer, I'd say no... Edit: that was for the Discreet question...
4. Two words sum up the versatility of all my (two pickup) basses: John East. I can do pretty much everything (as close as I need) with his EQs.
5. I had a BB2 and a Compact - used them both a few times, and the BB2 alone couple of times. Moved the BB2 on because I'm not a fan of horns (and I needed the cash at the time), and I liked the Compact tone more. Bought a Midget, and used both together for everything. As good as the BB2 was, alone it was just too small for me onstage - I had the impression my calves (and the audience) were getting the best of the sound. If I'd have had the cash, I'd have gone with two BB2s (with the horns off) and been a lot happier. Edit: What I really should have got (and maybe will do at some point) is get two Super Compacts - that'd be nearer my tone goals…but that's just me…
6. My bass GAS has become more and more specific over the years as I narrow down to what really suits me and I really like. The odd cheapie could get me to buy and try, but even that's less and less these days. If the right Shuker came up I'd be all over it, but that'd be very unlikely, and I just don't have the cash to order another custom build. The only other thing I want is for Jon to make me a new neck for my Fenderbird... Amp and cab GAS, though...that's another thing entirely...
7. Yup, I'd suggest a 15" Compact as your first port of call...
8. Not sure how 'dodgy' he'd be considered, but Robbie Williams at Knebworth was a fantastic gig...seldom have I ever seen one bloke own a stage and 100,000 people like that...
9. Lovely as it is, the Mike Lull isn't a Fenderbird...just saying...
10. Jimmy Barnes, Ann Wilson
11. I have two Shuker Horns (and I've had two more which I moved on in regretted fits of GAS), and if this was a four, I'd be seriously considering a third... Fabulous basses.
12.
When I had a LM2 I used a VT bass pedal to get all the sounds as I wasn't keen on how any of the amp eq worked.
This, I had a Sansamp (and before that a Behringer clone) in front of my LMIII to liven it up, and found I never switched it off. I moved onto an amp which gave me more of the sound I was after without the perma-pedal... IMHO, YMMV, etc, etc...
13. I never used them on either of mine - I use the tone controls on the bass and the way I play to change my sound. Having said that, once I've set the amp for the room (with any of my amps) I don't touch it during a gig.
14. My walnut Shuker: it was a birthday present all my friends contributed to; it was made for me and it's unique; I got the spec exactly right, Jon built it perfectly, and it plays and sounds exactly like I wanted it to.
15. If there's a 'moshing community', I for one would like to see some footage of their AGM...tea and buns everywhere...
16. Yep, good cabs are a revelation as to exactly what you're doing live...in-ears are even worse - technically better, but you know what I mean...
17.
My current band doesn't have one, so I'm hoping it'll hit the fiddle player instead.
Might take a bit more work on your part, depending on how fast his reactions are - they're generally a much more mobile target. I'd say you should be aiming 90 degrees backwards from the headstock, your maximum range is about five feet...
18. From the direction and speed it went, I'd have a dep drummer on standby, just in case...
19. No direct comparisons, but I had a BB2 for a fairly short while, and it's just bizarre how much such of everything a small box can produce. I played an RAF hangar with just it - I declined the PA, just to see - and it was plenty loud with my Streamliner 900. I did feel it was playing at my shins, though - I should have used the angle stand I used to use with my Schroeder, but I'd forgotten to bring it. I paired it with my Gen1 Compact, and that was nice. It's definitely full range - I'm not a fan of horns, which was one reason I moved it on, but if that's your thing you'll not find one wanting. I had it switched off... It might look a bit silly under a full rack, tho... FWIW, the only thing I'd change my Bergs for is a pair of Super Compacts.
20. Lovely. Just something to be aware of, tho - I was playing mine at the weekend, went to tune the A, and the tuner went bang and flew off. The tuner post had sheared. Never seen that before. Wouldn't want that to happen at a gig - I think I'll replace all of mine.
21. I love the headstock...and the bass looks miles better in the flesh, so to speak... Tobacco sunburst, different pups and a maple board and my cash is Sheldon's...
22. My new puppy is a Nordstrand Bigman - I replaced a MM pickup in one of my Shukers, and I've got it wired Front coil - Parallel - Back coil on the three way switch, and it's VERY bright and growly. So much so I didn't dare wire it series... It'll do big single coil, and a pretty close approximation to a MM humbucker in parallel, too. There a YT clip of Carey demo-ing it online, and that's pretty close to how mine sounds...
23. I've narrowed mine down massively over the years, and the more basses I play, the more definite I am about them Split coil pickups, or big single coils at a push Maple boards (birdseye for preference), or ebony at a push Fenderbirds Shuker Horns Precisions Figured woods, or two tone/tobacco sunburst at a push John East preamps Fan frets Hipshot Ultralites Dunlop Straplocks Basses under 8lbs, 8.5lbs at a push
24. Singlecuts More than 5 strings Solid colours other than black Ramps Bound and block boards Big paddle headstocks like Foderas and Wals That knob-shaped upper horn on Warwicks Small bodies
