1.
I want to see a monster head on top of it looking tiny
Gotta be two SVTs side by side... This is utterly mental, and therefore one of the most entertaining things I've read on here in a long time...
2. I play in a function band which does all sorts from Johnny Cash to Nirvana to Luther Vandross to GnR to Bruno Mars - all my basses have U-Retros in them, and despite having an iPad with Jamup, I find I just have one tone set on the amp (the fantastic Acoustic preset) and the U-Retro, together with different playing styles is plenty to get all sorts of sounds to cover everything. It's all in the mids...
3. Blimey, I'm all over the place with this...bump for straight Sale option...
4. Aaaand a bump for a second change, following some sterling advice from the bloke who knows about these things: Alex...
5.
A pedal in a head into the same pedal on the floor. Real minimum.
Have another go at reading Lozz's post, dude...
6. Aaaand a bump for changed emphasis and a bit more urgency.
7. His house concerts are very special. I keep failing to organise one round at our house... I'm pretty sure the rider details are on his website...
8. I've got EMG 40Ps in my Shuker, and they're very P-like, and not particularly hi-fi. And I'm a rock grunter at heart...
9. Three of my four main basses sound like a P when I want them to, but none of them look like one at all - a Shuker Horn, a Dingwall ABZ and a Thunderland (Thunderbird with a Lakland neck). It's all down to pickup and position thereof.
10. Oooooo, the Forty Eight looks promising...
11. Just had a good play with this head, and I'm keeping it. Muzz
12. I always stock up on DR strings, and last time I was there I regretted not buying an Aguilar Tonehammer 500 head...
13. I've just seen it - yup, it's dull, despite the somewhat breathless description: "...a grain pattern so intense it is reminiscent of the sand storms on the surface of Jupiter..." Really? Heheheheeeeee....
14. Slag fest? Hahahahaaaa... You said yourself " although the tube is completely inaudible", I was agreeing with you.
15. I can see why people would spend that sort of money on a Ritter, they really do transcend the bass guitar into a piece of art, then suddenly all bets are off as to what it costs or what it's worth, but Foderas? They don't even look like all the money, at heart they're such a tedious design, and yeah, the butterfly does look like something a Chinese factory would add these days...
16. Not a problem - I'd ordered one from GAK as they came out last year around my 50th birthday, so for once I had the indulgence fund to be able to buy one. I've loved the look of them forever, and my first 'proper' bass was a 1980 4001 Jetglow (Geddy!) I got for my 16th birthday, so it all seemed set in the stars... Anyway, the one I got wasn't £1600-worth of bass - it just wasn't good enough. Granted, the ergonomics are always a challenge compared to a lot of other basses, but I'm a pick-player rock-klutz who owned one for nearly a decade: the one I got didn't play particularly well, wasn't set up well (the nut was cut wayyy high) and was just a lifeless thing. Well, not lifeless, but I've played £300 Indonesian basses with more zing. I sent it back the next day, very disappointed. Then I went into PMT in Manchester and played one in there, and to be honest that wasn't any more inspiring. All IMHO, YMMV, and all that, and I probably copped for a duffer (or two), and I'll bet a good one is great. I just didn't want to have to keep trying them at that price range. Cost me £30 shipping to try the first one... I still think the 4003W is the best-looking thing they've ever produced...
17. I thought the LM Tube was the most pointless of the tubed mini heads - you'd hear much more valve with something like a Streamliner or even a GK Fusion. The 'big transformers' thing appears to produce this mystical thing called 'heft', which is much toted on here - some folk swear by it. some folk don't....YMMV, etc...
18. They look fantastic, glad you like it. I bought one a year ago brand new and it went back the next day...
19. One of the best live bands I've ever seen...just sublime.
20. Shuker? Check Black and Birdseye? Check PJ? Check Light? Check PM'd… I don't really need to sleep in the house for a while…
21.
I describe myself as a semi-pro bass player and guitarist. That has more to do with how I approach the engagements I do, and the bands who I work with, than with my level of technical ability. I see plenty people more capable than me, and a fair few less capable, so I am somewhere in the middle ability-wise. However, I am more useful to a band than a sh!t-hot player who doesn't prepare for the gig, turn up on time, help with the load-in/out, dress appropriately, etc...
Yeah, that's about me. Except the guitar bit.

Aaand the reverse amp swap with Mark, and once again, as painless and simple a transaction as could be wished for. Gentleman, scholar, pillar, etc
