1. I didn't like the Black Beauties I tried, and sold them on, but I've never had any issues with other (on-coated) DR strings - I use Lo-Riders and Sunbeams on all my basses, love em.
2. I've had both, sold the LMIII because I found it needed a Sansamp in front of it to really liven up the sound, then I realised the Sansamp was never off, so I went for a different head. I have an F1 now, but I use digital preamping via Jamup, so the F1's used flat as a power amp, which it does very very well.
3. I wouldn't want to be in a band with a bad drummer, but if the band was otherwise good, I'd hope they'd realise this and cut him loose, rather than me leave.
4. Yep - my 4 is 36"-odd on the E, and it's only really noticable if you're on the first three or four frets on the E - we sometimes play Smells Like Teen Spirit, and it's the only song I've noticed a slight stretch - that F-Bb-Ab-Db. The improvement in tension more than makes up for that, though: the best B in the business...
5. I can just see that in the backline at a Cannibal Corpse gig...
6. I loved that: started the day off a treat, thanks for posting, Blue. On the subject of kids with skills, the main gigging band I'm in is a bit of a collective, just the singer/bandleader and (mostly) me, with a succession of dep drummers and guitarists, and all of the kids (OK, they're in their 20s, but hey...) who dep have degrees in Modern Music. Yes, even the drummer... The guys who dep for me have degrees, too. I'd have killed and killed again for that sort of opportunity when I was a teenager, but that's just the way things were back then: you wanted a music degree playing something with four strings? Pass me the cello... I think the point is there's much more chance of coming across pub (bar) bands these days with very well trained musicians than there was twenty, thirty years ago. Which for me is a good thing, as it ups my game all the time. There's nothing better than playing with people who lift and inspire you, wherever they're from.
7.
You need to get your tracking and wheel alignment looked at
Wasn't as bad as a Suzuki GT750 Kettle I had years ago, tho - now that WAS a wobble...the phrase 'pig on stilts' comes to mind...
8. I've used my BF cabs with a Streamliner, a Fusion and an F1 (the F1 run flat with some digital modelling gubbins in front of it), and you kinda get out what you put in. I thought the best combination with the Steamliner, tho, was my old Schroeder - the low-mid bump of the cab suited the amp. I have had to re-EQ with the BF cabs much more than with other cabs I've used - maybe that transparency (or character, tho it's been similar with three very different cabs) can work against them, and maybe that's where people can hear tones they don't like. I need a range of tones for what I make money playing, and I can get that from my digital modelling front end through to the cab, but I get that some folk don't want or need that, and have completely different tone goals. Having used BF cabs for years now, I still really, really don't get the 'quality' issues. Maybe I've been lucky. Finish, yeah, but then that's very subjective - for example, I wouldn't be seen dead with the TKS 'radiogram' finish cabs, but that's just me. Oh, and the biggest problem I had shifting my S12T was if I rolled it too fast by the top handle it'd go into a speed wobble...
9. Anything to add on topic? You know, about your experience of the handle position of a S12T? Didn't think so...
10. The only thing I'd suggest if overall weight is an issue is to check the weight of the 1U rack tray you're buying - we use these sometimes in our data centre, and they can be very heavy. Mind you, I had a Streamliner rack mount thing and that wasn't exactly light, either...
11. If you read the first couple of pages of this thread, you'll see a discussion about the ergonomics of handle placement, being discussed to and fro between people who have/don't have the problem. There's even mention from owners of other makes saying their handles are a bit of a PITA, too. Then there are interjections from the usual suspects, with nothing to add to the discussion other than to have a pop at Barefaced, which is sadly what happens on a lot of BF threads.
12. Precisely the one you were aiming for...
13. I've heard the fan on mine, but I wouldn't describe it as intrusive, and certainly not 'air-raid siren'. Sounds like there might be an issue with the amp? What were the circumstances of the fan kicking in? Rehearsal, hot room, driving it hard? Could you hear it over the band?
14. Hey Lozz, if you'd mentioned you were thinking of running two S12Ts at a pub gig, I'd have driven the 250 miles just to watch the drummer's face...
15. I've had both, and I preferred the USA Rays, but then I'm a sucker for satin maple necks (I always wash my hands before playing, so none of my Ray necks ever got grubby at all) and I really don't like painted necks. As above, though, I'd never buy a new one given the secondhand prices you can get them for. Another shout for John East's preamps (on anything - I have three basses with U-Retros) - that sweepable mid gives so much control on the bass it's amazing.

17. I'm on my third Barefaced cab now, only changed them for cabs which got closer to my goals of ultimate portability and versatility. Only ever heard one 'industry professional' slag them (the whole range/concept/maker) off, and that was, at his own admission, without ever testing one. All I ever get from people who actually hear them (and then lift them) is head-shaking admiration. Haters are, it seems, gonna hate...
18. Yep, I've got a F1 and a Compact, and they work very well together...
19.
Bonham the younger is pretty handy.
Jason is now 16 years older than his Dad ever was...a sobering thought...
20.
I'm looking forward to hearing how well it works with your Duke. Curious how well it will do high volume.
I gigged mine for the first time (the day I received it) in an RAF hangar, on a raised hollow stage, and it was very very good. Had an hour free this morning to play about with EQ and stuff, set it up in the house and didn't touch the settings from where I'd left it at the gig. Hit an open E, everything rattled, stuff fell off shelves, the sofa set off across the floor and the cat f**ked off like a shot. It was plenty loud enough... Seriously, though: an astonishing 1x12. For reference, I'd had the Markbass F1 Gain at about eleven o'clock, and the Master just past noon...
21.
To be fair, that's just Vic performing at a gear show, probably for a bunch of fawning bass players I imagine. He's the first person to state that it's just 'fireworks', and whilst it partly pays his bills, he's perfectly aware if what it is (or isn't) Si
Quite. And look at the stick poor old Nige Clutterbuck gets...
22.
I've seen the double neck bitch, but I wasn't aware of a double neck mockingbird in association with Derek smalls
Dammit, you're right - Bich it was...
23. Derek Smalls' double neck [s]Mockingbird[/s] Bich...it's probably a moral failing on my part, but I've wanted that bass for thirty years...
