[/quote] I've ended up with a Markbass F1, I run my Sonic Port straight into the front of it.. Nice and neutral amp, doesn't colour the iPad preamp tones, it's loud and very very small. Into my Compact, I haven't come across a situation where it isn't loud enough yet, and I've never pushed it...

MM pup series/parallel/single - worth bothering?

I've had a series/parallel/single switch fitted to my Delano MM-loaded Shuker horn, and it produces three different tones. The Series setting is much louder than the other two, so I don't use it much (I had the switch put in to get away from this), but I use the other two a lot. I'm going to be fitting the new Nordy Bigman pickup soon (when I get the funds sorted), and that'll be wired with seperate volumes for each coil (each coil is basically a Big Single) instead of a switch... -

Don't like that one, but I've had a far eastern Daryl Jones which was great (for a Jazz, given I don't like Jazzes) and the Lakland USA neck I've got on My Thunderland is just sublime.

I had a BB300 for a few years as my backup bass - very well made, no frills P-Bass. If it's in decent nick (functionally working well) I'd pay a ton for it.

I'm having another (small) clearout, and this is now surplus to requirements - I'd bought it to move into the world of IEMs and being able to mix myself into the overall band mix. It'll also work as a monitor for vocals - essentially you can put it in line with your vocal mic and mix yourself up into IEMs. I only used it few times before I splashed out considerably more money and went to a full rack solution. It comes with its power supply. I had a Super12T for a while, and tho it's tempting to pick it up by the top handle, I worked with the theory that the side one is the carry handle and the top handle's for rolling it. It'd still be a great cab if it had no handles and was covered in Teflon...I miss mine.

Another plus one for the custom ACS 15s, and I have the cheapo IEMs which fit into them too. Best money I've spent on kit.

Now, I'm very happy with my Compact at the moment (superlight and does what I need very well), and before that I loved the Super12 I had (even more of everything, but just too much for what I needed), but GAS is a bitch, and I've been very keen to try out a Super Compact, but not stonked enough to actually buy one on the returns basis. Imagine my delight to see that Drew at the Manchester Bass Lounge (www.manchesterbasslounge.com) is going to be stocking Barefaced cabs...fantastic. He's only got a Super Midget in at the moment (tho I might even get over to try it out anyway), but there's a Big Twin on the way, and more as he can get Alex to ship them. Anyway, heads-up to anyone up this end of the country who's interested in Barefaced cabs...this could get expensive...

I'd advise trying before you buy: I've had three (and a US SUB), and while I love the look of them, and love the sound of other people playing them, they just don't work for me...

Nope, not for me - I'll acknowledge the skill it takes to do it, but I wasn't sure if or when he'd started. Guitar shop/bedroom noodling isn't something which sounds good to me...

We play this every gig, and I've never noticed any issues with it. Mind you, I've been playing it on and off since it came out...I'd agree about the drummer, though.

I use a variation of your system, for the same reasons, the difference is I use an amp and cab, too, for the drummer or guitarist to hear if/when they're not using IEMs. I run the Tuner out of my Markbass F1 into one channel of a Behringer (I know, but there's a better control over levels) HA4700, and the aux send from the PA into the other channel, and I can get a good mix of me and the PA send into my IEMs, with even some rudimentary EQ. It's never crapped out on me yet, and is even fairly quiet (certainly quiet enough for use live). The DI to the PA goes from the F1, which separates it from the signal levels for my monitoring. I should add that my signal's already wet before it hits the F1 (which I run flat) as I use an iPod-based preamp (the Jampup modelling app). Dunno whether that helps, but it certainly works for me.

I should really add to the general consensus here - Mark and I exchanged amps recently, and it was as simple and calm a transaction as could be wished for. A gentleman and a pillar of this establishment.

In the originals band (which hasn't got together for over a year now, due to illness on the part of the guitarist) we used to rehearse once a month to work on new songs, but share stuff in between over the Net, but the function band doesn't rehearse at all - we'll get a setlist during the week prior to a weekend gig, if there's anything new we'll learn it (the specific version will be decided and shared as Youtube link or MP3) and turn up and play it. There's a degree of blagging involved, but we're pretty good at it now...
