1. I play quite a lot in a couple of related wedding/function bands, and agree that 200 to start is a hell of a thing to burden everyone with. We work from a songbook of about 100, and clients can pick from that, but we inevitably end up playing a core of the same 20 or so, with a selection from another 30, and the last fifty are firmly in the 'we can if specifically requested' camp, which can take a bit of brushing up on (although we don't go as far as to actually rehearse ). Even given a 100 song list, virtually all clients are happy to go with the band's selection within an overall mood - after all, very few wedding DJs get given a full setlist already specified by the bride... I'm not convinced the 'we know more songs than the others so we must be better' approach actually works, either. In order to keep things positive, I'd suggest a band meet to discuss the 200 to 'prioritise' them - with luck, you'll find a lot will wither away due to lack of interest. If he wants all 200 ready to go right away...he's delusional...back away slowly, and keep smiling...
2. You're a bassist. Prepare yourself for the fact that it may not.
3. Yeah, I've seen it around before. Had a good look at the Warmoth T-Bird body a while ago (which they don't make any more), when I was starting out with the Fenderbirds, and the neck pocket sticks out from the body, which makes the nut a loooong way away. I'd be interested to know how it balances.
4. I loved the the first three albums, but I started watching Some Kind Of Monster a couple of years ago, and had to be convinced it wasn't a comedy...
5. OK, was on hold, isn't any more. Bump.
6. I'd love to try and get a finish like this - won't sanding it down remove the grain finish though?
7. That's into Warmoth territory (even with import duty), and they're soooo much nicer, and infinitely more configurable...
8. Ivan bought my effects pedal, simple and stress-free transaction, deal with confidence.
9. Johnny bought a neck from me - stress-free and simple transaction, one of the good guys!
10. Loved it.
11. 50 years and that bridge is still the best solution they can think of?
12.
Sorry I didn't properly introduce my self matey!
Not to worry, we were all too busy rabbiting! Great night all round, though.
13. Yup, I'll be there, Drew's place is in Worsley, and parking's pretty much ad hoc on the street. See you there!
14. My 78 Jazz was 11lbs 12oz (it's long gone), and my Dingwall ABZ4 is 7lbs 6oz (that's staying).
15. Streamliner 900 and Schroeder 1515L. Match made in heaven (the low-mid bump of the cab tames the big bloom of the amp), and about 45lbs the pair.
16. I wanted a Jetglo 4001 (thanks to Geddy) when I was 12, after saving and combining birthday and Xmas presents-type of thing, I got one on my 16th birthday in 1980. It was ace.
17. You know that bit in the first Harry Potter film where he goes into the wand shop? That's Mark at Bass Direct... Seriously, I found on my first visit that I asked to try what I was initially interested in, he set me up and went into the office to answer the phone and do some clerical stuff, then came out a couple of times to suggest other basses/amps I might like, based on what he'd heard. It was a bit of a shock at first, and I could easily have taken offence at his bluntness, but after I'd gone with the flow, I found he was bang on the money. He's a real enthusiast, but to get the best out of the experience, you need to leave your ego in the car...
18. And another bump - for reference, it's this one: http://store.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=72 £45 posted in the UK.
19.
She who must be obeyed
Ahhh, you've met her...
20. Great stuff! I love my 900: it's game over for me in amp buying. I've had three other amps in the time I've had it, all very highly regarded on here (and i can see why) - stuff like Mesa Walkabout and M-Pulse, and I sold them and kept the Streamliner. It works very very well with my Schroeder. I'm sure I could live with the 600, too- my 900 never gets beyond 9pm on the Master Vol.
21.
Yes indeed. 11lbs is not unusual for Jazzers of that era.
I had a 78 which weighed 11lb 12oz. A crippler...
22. Yup, it'd be a dull world, etc...
23. In an almost mirror experience, I've owned and gigged (amongst others) a TC RH450, a LMIII, a Streamliner 900, a Mesa Walkabout, a Mesa M-Pulse and an Ashdown Spyder 550. All the big ones went (actually quicker than the smaller ones) and I've kept the Streamliner. Coincidence? It's all about what the player notices, y'see...
24. Just imagine how much less problems you'd have moving something which sounds as good and weighs half as much I suppose if you needed to man up you could always carry the PA in instead...
