1. Before a bass is reliced, what is it? Doomed? Anyway, the best thing I've taken from this thread is the word 'ding-plements'. Genius, as always.
2. Rickenbacker first? I think Tutmarc might be a bit upset about that...
3. I'd be stunned if the voltage ran through them, I'd assume they were a control switch. And I could be wrong about the size, it was a few years ago. Is there not a jumper on there? IIRC (again), I didn't have to add a jumper, I just moved the existing one.
4. Hipshot Ultralights. If they can cure the dive on a T-Bird, they can cure anything. And they can.
5. I did this the other way on an imported LMIII, and IIRC they were standard-sized PC jumpers, so it's definitely worth a try.
6. I used to have the 8-string version of this; cracking bass, very well made, but the 8 had the most vicious neck-dive of anything I've slung a strap on.
7. I'm in This Uneven Sky (link below) on the originals front, and The Noel Fraser Band and Total Recall on the function/cheese and booze circuit.
8. Have discussed You Can Call Me Al at length elsewhere - mind you, I thought it'd be a bit of a bugger before I started, and again, it's a mare to pull off with a 4-piece. I Am The Resurrection is another one of those iconic ones you have to get dead right, and the song itself goes on and on and on...over 8 minutes' worth...
9.
My fantasy Glastonbury, would be to get rid of the huge muddy fields and to be able to see all my favourite bands in a good sub 500 capacity venue with a well-stocked bar.
Gaaah, beat me to it...Fantasy Glastonbury=indoors.
10. I've got an angled stand for my cab, which points it upwards at my head. Can hear everything. Did you try one of those? £14, IIRC Am going the IEM route (mostly for pitching my ropey vocals) shortly, though, which will get round the whole shebang.
11. Fingers crossed for you mate!
12. I have seen them live, and I agree with WoT.
13. OK, still skint, and the U-Retro is badly needed, so how about £50 posted?
14. Have to say the three 1200 series basses I've seen in the flesh have left me distinctly underwhelmed on the QC front. They play very nicely, and I'm a big fan of the Nordy pups, but the detail finish just isn't up to the price tag. I really wanted one, too...
15. We run Play That Funky Music into Superstition, which has a middle break of a chunk of Good Times, then back into Superstition, then into Long Train Running. Keeps the punters up and dancing.
16. Ask him if it weighs a quarter of a ton. If it does, it might be a genuine 78... Seriously, though, it doesn't look right to me - my 78 was, as Ash says, block and bound. I'd like to see the neck plate, too - should be a micro-tilt. No bullet truss rod adjuster, either...nope, the more I looky, the less I likey...
17.
I don't know who Mark E Smith is but he seems to have the measure of Mumford and Sons. What a sh*t band.
Charlie Brooker referred to them recently as "The trust-fund Worzels". I've not been able to take them even vaguely seriously since.
18. Ok, let's say £60 posted mainland UK, just to get some interest...
19. +1for the Amplug, it's not the most versatile tone-wise, but it's very small and convenient, and does the trick. If you connect an iPod, you can even wander round the place... I have a Micro Cube which replaced the Amplug, but it's a lot more cash.
20. Love mine. Had an ABII as well, but it really wasn't anything the ABZ was, so it went. The design, finish, sounds and weight are all exemplary. I've sold all my other high(ish) end stuff, the only other basses I have are frankenbuilds and cheapies with personal connections. Quite excited about putting Dingwall pups into the Laklandbird, though, then it's a John East U-Retro, and we'll see how much that brings to the party.
21. Then there's the evil step-twin of this syndrome, which is that moment of frozen terror as the four-count into the songs starts, and you can't remember the first note...it all comes back in a rush, but just for that moment...
22. Liked my LMIII, moved on to valvier sounds, but they're still a great amp.
23. Yeah, as I said, it's more of an aesthetic exercise; the chrome covers and rings are going on there, too. It won't sound much like a T-Bird, but that's kinda the idea. No need for a Badass - the Supertone bridge is a big improvement on the Gibbo 3-point one (which IIRC is the same on the £200 Epi and the £1000 US), and fits straight into the existing bridge mounts. It's the easiest bridge swap there is.
