Legend. Love the story from filming LOTR told by Elijah Wood, that they used to sit and discuss Tolkein's motivations or nuances in a particular scene, and then Christopher Lee arrived on set and was able to say "Well, he never mentioned that to me."
I've just recently sanded down my green fortress to reveal a lovely maple grain, two piece - love it! They're great basses for the money although I put a passive set up in my bass with wizards for a more traditional sound. I paid £350 for mine about a year ago, the previous owner I believe had it from new and paid over £1k back in the 90's. My Fortress has become my main gigging bass for my soul band especially now that I've ditched the bogie green colour, much prefer the oiled natural looks, superb slim necks too and top Warwick build quality. Mine is definitely a keeper
We (more specifically I ) need pics! Ahh, go on, go on, go on. BTW, how, long did it take you to sand it down? The finish on mine looks bomb-proof! Edit: sorry, bit of a thread derail there. I'd say 400-450 depending on condition, finish, etc. As you were.

Looking forward to it. Give the cost of tickets, I ration myself these days - not seen them since R30. -
EMG TBDC Thunderbird replacement pickups
Muzz replied to mikekaperys's topic in Repairs and Technical
There's plenty of info on the Kent Armstrongs here http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/soapbar-bass-pu-4-or-5-string-bridge-1226-p.asp Never used them myself, but they look like they'll fit, and one reviewer had them in a TBird copy, so... -
EMG TBDC Thunderbird replacement pickups
Muzz replied to mikekaperys's topic in Repairs and Technical
I put a set of passive EMG Hz into my Fenderbird project thing, and was, as BRX says, pretty underwhelmed by the result. If you're after the 80s metal sound, you'll want the active EMG setup, but I think that might bust your budget and also I doubt you'll fit the active EQ and battery into the bass- the control cavity is pretty shallow on those: I put a pull-serial pot in mine and found I couldn't get the cavity panel back on flush afterwards... Perhaps try a couple of the custom pickup makers like Wizard or Cats Whiskers, they may be able to make you something? They're not as expensive as you'd think, and they're certainly worth a phone call to chat about it. -
I was gigging. Best thing to be doing on a Saturday night.
I like that triple bass stand..
Hercules thingy. Don't use all three very often, but it was a wedding gig and I needed the acoustic bass for a Irish unplugged-ish set which had been requested. Normally the guitarist uses the third one, or for comedy value, we hang the mandolin off it.

Love the MB rig - this was my dream rig for a while, but for a couple of complicated reasons I just couldn't get it together. The 2x15 rig I ended up with is even smaller - a one-hand carry, but a little low to the floor sometimes: [sharedmedia=core:attachments:113954]

D'you know, there was something niggling me about that name, and now it's clicked. And now I've read the whole thing. I think what fooled me was that it isn't funny...

There's a fine line between impenetrably deep, artistically significant guru-speak, and simply talking bollocks. And I think yogi's well over that line.

Loving all this sage advice from people who haven't a clue about the passage in question...

Sounds lovely on its own, sadly it'll disappear in a lot of live band setups. Took me an age to realise that Pleasing Solo Sound does not equal Pleasing Ensemble Sound...

The Streamliner has a particular tone stack that is both interactive and not immediately intuitive (hence that loooong Talkbass thread) and is proving in the longer term to be a Marmite amp. Mine works really well with my Schroeder 1515, which is another heavily voiced oddity. It happens, though, that they are a very good match for each other: one mid-shy(ish), one with a biiig low-mid bump. To my ears (and I've AB'd this a lot) the Schroeder suits the Streamliner better than the Barefaced Super 12T, which is somewhat of a paragon of a cab these days. By simple substitution, it's clear that the mid-shyness is the amp rather than the cabs, so I'd slog away at the EQ of the amp for a while yet. It took me weeks to get to grips with it, but I'm happy with it now.

cheap looking things which actually turned out to be alright

Yep, the BDI-21 is a winner in this category all right... -
Bought a really nice bass from Paul. Completely painless transaction, deal with him in confidence, he's one of the good guys! Cheers Paul!

OK, I've got a black GB7 Hipshot Xtender (the one for Gotoh tuners on Warwicks, some Ibanez and Yamahas, etc) This one: http://store.hipshot...uct_detail&p=72 It's in full working condition, boxed, no marks, etc. I'd like to trade for a Chrome BT1 (the Musicman/G&L one). This one: http://store.hipshot...uct_detail&p=54 Both 'bass side' i.e. for the E string. Let me know if you've got one to trade, and we can get on with it! Cheers, Muzz

That's how I play it - I can't think of any other time in any other song I've come across the need to do it that way, so I don't worry about long-term damage* - it's only the chorus, guv'nor... * At my age, the phrase 'long-term' indicates less and less anyway...

Just seen this thread, coincidentally we added Locked Out Of Heaven to the setlist over the weekend, great song, goes down a treat with the punters, and a blast to play. We also added a Courteeners song (Not 19 Forever) that was by comparison a dirge.
I am just trying to give myself permission to be crap and happy at the same time
NOW you're talking my language As has been mentioned, there's a very real possibility that you're your own worst critic - 120 gigs a year in a genre where musical scrutiny from players and audience is at a relatively high level means your peers must be impressed. Either that or you've got a van.

Heavy Weather indeed. Listening to those clips, I think it's the parpy sound which I dislike the most. Technically very good and all that but leaves me cold and slightly irritated. Edit: back to the OP, first time I heard Jaco was via Joni, on Hejira. Still like that album.

Love a Thunderbird, but my obsession with maple boards means it's got to be a Fenderbird!

Almost everything I've got is modded in one way or another - even my Dingwall. It's done for various reasons, to add bits I prefer to standard like bridges and tuners (Schallers and Hipshot Ultralites), functional additions like Hipshot Xtenders, and purely cosmetic bits (chrome surrounds and pickup covers on my Fenderbird). I keep going (and sometimes backtracking) until I'm happy. There are very few stock basses I like these days, I usually end up looking at something and thinking "It's really nice, but it could do with a better...bridge" or somesuch. It's also helped me define exactly what I like in a bass, and I play pretty much unique instruments. I wouldn't ever simply add the value of the bits up and value the bass at that, that's about as valid a method as getting Ford's parts catalogue out, adding up all the bits and claiming that's what your Focus is worth - the mods are done solely for me, and in most cases if I was selling, I'd put the bass back to stock and keep/sell the parts.

Every Rickenbacker I've ever tried or owned. I love Thunderbirds visually, but I'm in the process of making my second Fenderbird (this time with a Lakland neck, so I suppose it'll technically be a Laklandbird) as I prefer the ergonomics.
