Napper's been a mate of mine for many many years, and despite the rep of MG in general being only slightly higher in regard than the Third Reich, he did a sterling job in difficult circumstances. OK guys, don't want to play the tragedy card here, but our rehearsal room was broken into on Thursday and my amps were stolen (there's a thread elsewhere with details) so I need to shift this bass ASAP, so I'll reduce it to £225. Cheers, Muzz

There's nothing like going into a studio environment for highlighting any issues, 90% of which are pretty much unnoticable in a live/band situation. I'm studio recording at the moment as well, and I'm in a similar position as you, when you have to be very controlled to get a clean, consistent sound. Agree about the attack angle of the pick going across the strings, more vertical will help. I've been a pick player for a very long time, and I tend to try to anchor the heel of my right hand on the bridge (the Ray is a good one for that - there's a nice 'valley' between the back of the bridge and the saddles) and put less overall movement into the up-and-down. I use a thinner-than-some Dunlop .88 pick, but that's just what suits me. Oh, and ignore any pressure from the 'play with your fingers' crowd - it's a bass guitar, play it whichever way suits your music...

Hi All, OK, time to move this one on - the everpresent GAS, combined with cashflow issues require I move something out before moving something else in, and the first to go will be my 98 Mex Jazz. I haven't had it long, picked it up as a passive standby for gigging, but the more I use my Ray, the more I'm feeling I need a Precision as a standby. If it puts anything into perspective, I don't use my Overwater Perception Deluxe much these days, either - the older I get, the less subtle I get, clearly... Anyhoo. It's in good nick, no dings I can see, couple of very small indents on the neck, but nothing out of the ordinary for a well-looked-after 10 year old bass. A little bit of crackle through the pots if I'm being critical (tho I'll have a spray of those tonight and it'll go, I'm sure), and it's got a Gotoh bridge on it which looks pretty new and gives it a nice solid feel. Strung with pretty-much-new rounds. Neck and frets good, I've set the action a little on the high side as I'm a pick player (see note above about lack of subtlety), but it'll drop more, for sure. I'll leave that to you. Will come in a genyoowine Fender gigbag and shipped well packed and insured for a ballpark £20-25 to the UK. I'll give a more accurate P&P figure to anyone who's buying at the time. Or you can come and get it, or I can meet within a 30 mile radius of Manchester. Whichever. OK, I realise without pics this bass clearly doesn't exist, so... Steve[/quote] I've got the 115X extension cab as well, and I can't imagine really needing more volume - it's 660w of controlled fun, and it'll swamp any drummer. It's really useful to be able to use it as a full-range cab or a sub, too. As you say, great range of sounds, from uber-clean to a nice warm valvey tone. And it splits into 2 x 50lb(ish) boxes - can't ask for much more than that, really... They just seem to be strangely unfashionable. Dunno why... M

If the quality, tone and volume of my Roland D-Bass 115 are anything to go by, the Roland 210 version is a belter. And not heavy, either.

OK, I'm looking for a set of removable castors (or even casters) for a cab, and for once t'internet's not exactly forthcoming with suppliers. Anyone have any experience buying/fitting said items? Ta, Muzz

OK, seeing as we're gigging some bigger venues now, I've gravitated to the Roland D-Bass combo again (and with my newly-acquired extension 115X it's got a huuuuge sound - 660w of FFP-controlled deep goodness) and so the foray into smaller amps has ceased. Which is an unfeasibly long-winded way of saying I'm selling a small amp. Picked this up an a whim, and although it's got a really lovely clean sound and weighs next to nothing (2.5lb), 150w isn't quite cutting it with our new louder setup. I believe these are particularly good with EUB, and I can see it being ideal in a more, erm, subtle band. It's so small and light I carry it in its own carry bag inside my rucksack. Marvellous. I played the Eden Nemesis 15" combo recently (the RS115), and was mighty impressed - they're around the £600 mark. I'm using a Roland D-Bass 115 at the mo, and it's a great combo if you can find one - light and loud. List price on them has gone silly, but they can be a secondhand bargain, as they're not fashionable.

I thought I would get used to it when I bought this one, but it's been getting less and less use as I'm switching between my Ray and my Overwater, and it's such a nice bass it's a waste sat in its case. As a consequence, it's completely unmarked and criminally underplayed. The sound is immense (huuuuge output), and it's so versatile. Hey ho. Someone will get a pristine $$ NT, and I'll get to indulge my seemingly ever-present GAS...
