2. I'm currently playing in two very different bands - the third (originals) band is on a semi-permanent hold at the moment, so I won't bother with that (different again) situation. One band is a primarily function/wedding band, uses a fair few very high quality deps (drummer and guitard, very occasionally bassist when I can't make it) and never rehearses. It's well organised, the arrangement and key of the songs are set out from the start (a single reference version is circulated) and it works very well. There's a proper professional attitude taken to it all, and playing with a great dep really lifts everyone's game, and is a unique learning experience. The second band is a Rawk band with some old friends which is having its first gig this weekend, so we've had maybe six or eight rehearsals as much as a social night out as anything, and that works very well, too. We expect to gig maybe once a month, and once we're gigging, I can see another rehearsal once a month to introduce new songs - we tend to rework stuff to suit ourselves, which is again a different, enjoyable experience. I think the OP's issue isn't specifically with the methodology of the setup, but that he feels out of his depth with it, which is understandable given the pressure and time constraints he's under.
3.
Chris Glen has put on some weight... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoA2vudHFi0
Y'see that's not even a Gibson... :/ And yeah, he's erm, chunked out a bit... :/
4. I've got a triple stand but a double gugbag, so I take two basses and magnanimously let the guitarist use the spare stand neck... :0)
5. Anyone remember the E2 Explorers? Binding and nice wood? A Tbird or even better an Explorer bass in that...lovely...
6. I'm waiting for the Fender Road Worn Rumble Series to come out....
7.
Yep, massive rat look scene and 'oily rag' restorations, have a Google.
God almighty... It'd be interesting to cross-check Relic fans with people moaning about BF handles and finish chipping, mind...
8. Does the car relicing extend to making them rusty? Genuine question...
9. A very very easy tone to get - bright rounds, some mids, drive if the amp'll do it, pick, P-pup. Job done.
10. I ran a Markbass F1 for a while (still got the rack ears somewhere) and it was very good.
11. Aaaaand another bump, on hold not worked out (tho some interest still) so they're all still up for grabs...
12. I had a bonkers scale Sei a while ago, and the chaps at Newtone Strings made me some at the exact lengths I needed. Not expensive, either. Give them a shout.
13. I sold a Jetglo 4001 in the mid-80s for a couple of hundred quid. I'd have it back, just so I could get the proper money for it. I certainly wouldn't keep it...
14. I've played a couple of the Fender Road Worn Ps, and really liked the feel of them, but I'm sure they could have made them without the previously-mentioned 'all worn in uniquely the same way' damage. Relicing is just a complete no-no for me, although if I drop my bass on a concrete car park I reserve the right to shout "Oh f*ck no, I've reliced it!"
15. And a bump for the weekend - some interest in one of them, which may well leave the other two...
16. I do love the bridge on that new Epi...mine's almost, almost there: [sharedmedia=core:attachments:234381] Actually, looking at it more closely, I couldn't have a two-piece bridge: the saddles are too far forward on mine. Ah well, I'll have to struggle on...
17.
Recently I have been listening to "Bed of Roses" by Bon Jovi. Cheesy as hell but I love listening to it, and singing it in the car at full volume. I would never play it on bass or want it in any set but I still cant get enough of that cheese. Anyone else have any cheesy song secrets?
I'm sorry, but the couplet 'I want to be, just as close as, The Holy Ghost...s' is just so arse-clenchingly poor that it disqualifies it. One of the worst lyrics of all time. If it has to be that sorta By Jovi thing, then Blaze Of Glory's virtually the same thing, with a little less clenching...
18. "Play something the drummer knows"...
19.
Never really got the issue with blokes doing songs originally by women or vice versa. Tina herself did it with Proud Mary. Obviously there are very gender specific songs that wouldn't work.
I could've understood it if it was a specific song, but nope, it's always "Do you do any Tina Turner?" What, like the dance?
20. This has reminded me to update my experiences. I've just bought another set of NYXLs to replace the XLs on my new (kinda) build Shukerbird - the difference in quality of string is very apparent: even though the XLs were new, the NYXLs were a big improvement immediately: a more consistent tone, warm in the mids, but still with a nice zing, and a solid bottom end. I had an E go flat very very quickly on another set of NXYLs on another bass, something I was surprised about, but I've replaced it with the E from the XLs. It'll be interesting to see how fast it loses brightness compared to the other three NYXLs, which are several months old but still have a smooth zing to them: at the moment it's understandably a bit brighter, but we'll see how it ages. I'll report back as it goes
21. Hahahaaa...I'll tell the Mrs. I'm pretty sure she won't sell that, tho... :0) Forgot to add, if anyone wants to try them, I'll stick the kettle on...
