  1. Looks awfully like an old Burns to me. Was thinking along the lines of the old Bison Bass but there is this .... This is an old Ormston (Burns) Upright Bass. It was obviously thought that DB players would go for this back then,
  2. So that's the lacquer on and dry. Next few days spent flattening off (the lacquer is applied by brush) and going down the sanding grits until the finish is completely smooth and flat. Still a little buffing and polishing to do but it's pretty much there. The London Plane is really beginning to look the part now, well chuffed (I have another board of this in the stash).
  3. Thanks for the comments folks, it was getting a bit lonely in here ....cheque in the post Owen The main body is a 2 piece Olive Ash, the cap is one piece of gnarly London Plane. (Both from UK grown wood). The London Plane is nice to work, feels similar to maple, i was going to put a tint of colour over it but i'm glad i just left it the natural colour of the wood. It's a nice rich honey colour which looks quite plain from a distance, its not till you get up quite close that you can see all the figure in the wood. I'll take Pedula . This design has evolved over a few builds (theres still a few tweaks to do yet) but i can see the similarities...there's a retro hint of the 80's about it........Inevitable really .........! Ian
  4. Routing done, first coat of lacquer
  5. This has been on the back burner for what seems like years. After brushing the dust off the body i have made a few minor changes and decided on a different (new) neck. Here's where i left it.. Neck is now ready .. No volute ... a first for me. I usually hide the scarf joint too but just left it 'naked' on this neck. Flatsawn ...another first. Back side ... Front Side Still a wee bit of work to do before the weather turns bad but i should get it finished. I can see me going for a proper bridge though , don't know if i like those.
  6. That's turned out a bit nice .... what a fantastic bass, you must be well pleased.
  7. Beautiful bass, technically the most proficient build on here for manys a day imo ! Love all the carving, binding and inlay work especially
  8. I have always found feedback about NS customer service to be very good.
  9. Agreed ! Looks very much like this has at least got to the final stages before the fingerboard was removed. I don't think it's as bad as has been made out TBH. If it wasn't for the FB inlays it could be relatively easy and inexpensive to put right. Ian
  10. Cmon chaps ........just needs someone to adjust the trussrod, add an ill fitting pickup, file down the nut, spray the pots with oil and give the board a lick of lemon oil......proper job !
  11. Yes, dont go too close to the line as jigsaws dont cut perfectly vertically...especially around corners. Just make sure the blade is long enough, id use one that has plenty of teeth. Ian
  12. Yup that's a Warlord ....takes me back. Lovely lovely Basses to handle and play though ..despite the dodgy lectrics. I should never ever have sold mine
  13. Nice...loving the LEDs how about some more info about them?
  14. My Pangborn had a pretty awful circuit too. I know AP hated paying a lot of money for electronics and a lot were made for him by someone he met in Radio Shack one day! Mines had a home made cicuit built on vari-board (i think it's called) lovely wee red LED on the pickup selector which was at the time pretty fecking fancy! (We are going a long way back here lol) Anyhoo i eventually gave up on it and would just run the bass passively tbh, it eventually just died anyway....... Not much help though m8 but thought id share the AP experience... Id love to see this bass
  15. Reproducing an Alembic at the first attempt is a bit of an ask imho.
  16. Looking good, 'snot my favourite colour to be honest but it has brought out the ripple really well ...fantastic work all round.
  17. Tis a thing of awesome beauty
  18. My old Pangborn was the same....(sniff sniff) Worked a treat though.
  19. Out of interest , has the built in stand idea been shelved ?
