1. I remember these, pretty nice basses at the time. Didn't he used to put brass 'slap' plates on the end of the fingerboard when we were all trying to be MK? (Lol beat by last poster) Well done...what a bargain!
2. Nice, cant say i have heard of Canoe Wood either ....maybe Birch ? Lovely looking stuff anyroads.....
3. Lost count of the number of alcoholic Muso's i've met over the years im afraid.
4. Looks really good, did you resolve the strings/break angle?
5. 2 * Kent Armstrong Humbuckers in there m8. No pre-amp on this build. IanM
6. Thanks sprocket and welcome to the forum, theres plenty good stuff in here I'm a spare time fair-weather whittler in Scotland.
7. Greetings from bannockburn
8. Elm will be fine as a one piece imho, as Dom sais it's not particularly heavy. .(I quite like it myself ). I have seen it used like this before (cant remember where though ...).
9. Thats my last build charic, dont want to hijack this thread so heres a link.... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/128181-4-string-burr-elm-diary/page__fromsearch__1
10. Same here..... love the design. What finish are you doing?
11. Cor...this'll be a beaut ! A lot of players seem to be drifting over to 32-33 scale length (myself included) so i know where your coming from, i used to suffer a few aches and pains myself when i was playing, my last build was aimed addressing these issues as well. Buckeye Burl too ....can't wait ! Think your onto a winner there m8 !!
12. Hello Heath and welcome. Looking forward to seeing your builds...
13. Looks great, walnut looks fantastic. Really loving the lacewood fb .... brilliant stuff !
14. Shaping up to be a cracking looking bass, cant wait till it hits the paint shop !
15. Thats a cool bass..always fancied a midi job myself
16. Adled -- might be selling this one...see how the build goes. Henry - No i didnt wind my own pups for that build, there's 'vintage' Kent Armstrong Humbuckers hiding in there. I was thinking about winding a set of single coils for this project but thats a long way off yet. I used a 33" scale as the bass was for small hands, but now i've played it myself i actually prefer it. Can't say i've noticed any implications sound-wise, just really nice and comfy to play. IanM
17. Well heres the plan ... Slightly shorter headstock and pull the machineheads closer to the nut. Move FB and bridge back a little. Maybe just open up the bottom horn a little for wider access. 22 frets instead of 24.
18. Just acquired a top for next project ....Burr Elm again. Its pretty much the same as my last build but with a few tweaks ...i'll probably go for ash instead of walnut on the back. Sticking with the 33" scale which i am now a big fan of.
19. Heres another alternative....
