1. Just bought 2 x RCF 732s Unbelievable bit of kit. Everything is SOOOOOO much clearer. Thanks Russ!
2. Not something id choose to listen to regularly, but i can definitely appreciate the skill shown! Noice
3. I've owned both. The thumb was awesome sounding. A very distinctive tone. I sold mine because it was an awkward reach to the first fret for me (i've had shoulder surgery). Dont know why, as i've never had issues with any other bass. Ive got a '87 Streamer. Stage 1. Its immense. Best bass i've ever owned. Im in south wales if you want to come and try it
4.
In my soul/funk functions band we started out with the intention of playing songs we wanted to hear played that weren't necessarily regular fare. Fast forward four years & with the exception of maybe two songs we're playing pretty much what every soul/funk function plays & it's difficult to add new stuff outside of that, cos that's what people seem to want. We even broke our no Mustang Sally & Superstition rule after a while...you can't ignore the classics when people are paying you a decent fee to hear em.
You still have some pretty unique covers though to be fair. (I wont name them incase you don't want me to ) And a lot of the covers you do, have a unique arrangement. So there are ways around making the standard affairs at least a bit more interesting to play
5. Love it. Wish i could warrant a 6 string, but 4 is enough for me
6.
From your description, I'd say you were borrowing a rig with some major issues.
I've got to agree. I've used a TH500 for a bit, volume was never an issue
7. I went through a period of learning, where all i wanted to play was slap, and play it as fast as possible. I quickly realised how pointless, and tasteless that was, and that it doesn't work in a band context. Doesn't mean it was a bad thing to learn though, because now i know the difference between a musical slap line, and a slap line that sounds like someone has just thrown the cutlery drawer down the stairs. In our average set list there are 30 songs. I play a slap line on 1 of them (because the original was a slap line). I don't understand the hate towards it though. As has been said, when done well it can sound really good. But it's the same with anything/everything isn't it? Fingerstyle can sound really good, or really bad depending how tasteful the player. Same with drumming. Same with....etc
8. We use Wattsapp. Just because its easy to use, and there's a search function on it that enables us to go back and check anything quite easily. In a band of 5, 3 of us are definitely more active on it compared to the others, but that's just the nature of their jobs, or of who they are? Like you say, maybe they are just happy with what is being said and don't feel the need to add anything? They have always made their feelings known if they were against something. So for me, it's not a concern.
9.
I like the look of the Mark Audio AC2, but annoyingly their website only lists one dealer - in Italy... http://www.markaudio.it/dealers/2/ A google search for the UK finds no mention anywhere!
https://www.facebook.com/thepracticepadmusicshop
10. Cheers everyone, i've been away on holiday for a week, so i'm only now catching up to all this. Thanks for all your advice. I'll be looking into all of it
11.
Poor old Taylor Hawkins appears to be the most hated man on Basschat! Hope he's not a lurker on here......
I don't have any problems with him. Seemed like a good bloke on any interview i've seen of him. All the members seem alright to me. I just can't get into their music
12. I had a Big Twin II. It was huge sounding. It was a little too open sounding for my taste too. I am well aware that's a crappy description, but i really struggle to explain in words what it is i wasn't keen on. I also didn't need that much power. It was LOUD. So i moved that on and bought 2 TKS S112s. They are fantastic. I love the "natural" sound from these. They are quite "mid forward", but i guess that's just what i like. I've had them for years now. I also have had a Retro 210 in that time that i was fortunate enough to win in a raffle. Much more to my taste. I really, really liked that cab. Just not more than i liked my TKS. And my TKS offered better portability options.
13.
With you on this one Kert, aside of the first 2 albums, which I do like, it's been essentially rock music for folks who don't like rock music.
Beige Rock
14. The Foo's for me too. I like Dave Grohl. Always comes across really well. To be honest, so do the rest of the band. I'm just not a fan of the music, even though i'd really like to be!!
15. Thanks Fair bit of interest, but i'm not looking for any trades on this one, so it's still here for now
16. Thanks Phil. Lots to think about.
