Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone. That crossover looks like it could be useful
-
That's fine. We already have one we can use. I just wasn't sure if i could do without it altogether. Next thing then.... What is the best way to connect the subs to the mixer, to make the most out of them?
-
I don't know if its a slave output as such. But yes, both are passive. L and R from mixer goes to the power amp. L and R from the power amp go to the tops "input". Each top also has an "output", and we feed from that, down to the subs
-
That's an option. How about if i ran the L and R to the tops as normal, and then linked the tops to the subs as we have, but let the tops power the subs. Is that an option? I haven't checked impedance's, and don't know how much that would effect the overall sound etc. As i said, i'm no expert!

Think this would be the right forum for this? Feel free to move. Currently we have a non powered desk (Yamaha MG16xu), powered by a Behringer iNuke, then this powers passive tops, that we link to subs underneath. The subs have a built in crossover in them. I've convinced the band to go for active tops, and as such we are looking at either RCF 322s (second hand) or some DB opera 12s, or some Alto TS 212s. My question is, what would be the best way to set this new system up? Because the tops will be powered, we obviously wont be running the power amp to them. So what would you do? Whats the best way to link everything? I'm not a expert on PA's so any advice is appreciated, even if you think it may be obvious. The mixer has 4 auxs' and 2 monitor outs. At the minute we run our monitors from the aux outs, so they can have individual mixes to them. So my thoughts were to run the tops as normal, then instead of linking the subs to them, run the subs from a aux via the power amp , and manually mix in the channels we want to come through them. Or would you still link the subs to the tops in series , and do away with the power amp?

Originally it looked and sounded like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nxl_TD-yZk Now it looks like this: It has now got upgraded pickups to a pair of Nordstrand NJ4's and has CTS pots with cloth wiring. I don't have the original pickups, but i do have the original pickguard and strings if you'd like me to swap them back Cracking bass, for a cracking price. IMO, as good a bass as you can get in this price range I live in South Wales. All trials welcome, and encouraged so you can hear and feel just how good it is. Any questions, give me a shout. Thanks

I bought these on the recommendation of users here, to see if the "In Ear " monitoring method was for me. It was. I only used these twice before upgrading. I kept hold of them as spares, but i really dont think i need to do that. They are just sitting and doing nothing, so it's time to move them on to someone else. I have no pictures, but trust me when i say they are in excellent condition! They are these : http://pro.ultimateears.com/ue-900s Will take some pictures tonight if needed, but any other questions, give me a shout.

Here she is It originally looked like this: I stripped it, and had a go at doing the whole glitter/disco bass thing. Don't think of this is a finish product. It's not. I bought the bass with the intentions of just having a crack at the glitter finish. I just haven't got around to finishing it. The finish is rough to touch, and certainly not a professional job! I planned to put clear coats on, but as i say, never found the time. It needs earthing too. It has the potential to be a really nice shortscale. It isn't yet though!! If this interests you, think of it as a project bass. It has Entwistle pick ups. A nice chunky bridge. Good tuners. Not sure of a brand off the top of my head, but they do the job. Any questions, give me a shout.

I have experienced pain in my left hand through playing chords etc. Yes it does get better. If you're specifically talking about barre chords, make sure your thumb is anchored on the back of the neck, quite low, and so that it can pivot. Rather than clamped on like a capo. Don't know how helpful that explanation is?

Good value active PA cabs - recommendations

Bit of a thread revival, sorry about that We are looking to buy some of the RCF ART 712-A. If we get them, could we potentially put kick and a little bit of bass through them? Or would we need subs too? We have subs, i'm just trying to work out what we need going forward. Thanks -
Never-the-less, I don't think cottage craftsmen like yourself are a threat to any time-served luthiers.
I'm sure you didn't mean this in any bad way, and i have no doubt Andy wont correct you, but trust me when i tell you Andy is no average hobbyist. Yes he makes the basses from his house, but it has no effect on the end quality of instrument produced. His bass surpassed most of the instruments I've ever played (including customs), and was only equal to a couple (A couple of Sei). Like i said, i'm sure you didn't mean this to be taken in a derogatory way, but i just wanted to point this out Cool build concept again Andy. Look forward to seeing the results -

I think he uses that rig so he can play any gig he wants in Sweden without having to leave his house. Just point the speakers in the right direction, and job done

Look forward to seeing the finished article already

Fantastic end result. Congratulations Mick, and Andy!
Sort of reminds me of those melting clocks in some surrealist paintings... so how about "Dali's Daydream" ?
That's just taken the lead for me

OK, this is a possibly weird question about gigging...
FuNkShUi replied to Telebass's topic in General Discussion
We only really play weddings or functions now. All the band members have partners. But the rule is, if you need an invite to be there in the first place, the partners can't come. We usually play maybe 3 pub gigs a year, just for prospective clients to be able to come and watch. They can come along to them if they want -
but I came across this word: Psilos which means bare/smooth/uncovered in ancient Greek. Thought it would be quite fitting for the nature of the design and finish.
You've got your winner surely? I'm not even going to try after that!
