1.
All on the bridge pickup, with the onboard bass boosted to compensate, and you're getting as close as an instrument will get you too the sound you want. Burpy, tight, and fat, all at once. Mega compression too. "Too young to die" was recorded straight into the desk using a 1990 SS1.
That's exactly how i run my SS1!! Don't use compression though, so i might be tempted to give that a try....
2. Yup ill get some pics up soon as it all arrives. I'll have to have a look how to send the aux pre fader now then!!
3.
No problem - and let us know how you get on. Enjoy the revelation!
Ordered the P1, a 15M XLR to Jack lead, and the UE900s all for under £250! Should all be here by Monday at the latest, so I'm looking forward to giving them a blast at next weeks rehearsal!
4. It's when parts of the body are hollowed out, or chambered, usually to make the guitar lighter or balance better. I think that's correct. I only know because the bass Andy made for me has a chambered body, and it has made a big difference to the weight!!
5. I'll be able to hear you crystal clear now Thanks again, really have been superbly helpful
6. People will except less for a sale because it means they can put the money towards buying exactly what they want. Rather than potentially trading it for something they don't entirely want, but will accept. I would guess this is the thinking behind it. Although, i agree with you, i don't get it really
7. That's brilliant. Ordered Can i join the club now?
8. OK firstly Mr EBS_Freak, thank you. I feel you've probably gone far beyond what's expected from you just in helping me. Cant thank you enough. Really appreciate it. Ive taken you up on your suggestion and contacted my local dealer of the UE900s. I will let you know what they come back with regarding price etc. May even just get moulds first as last
9. Are they really?? I didn't realise that! Yeh I think you'd be fine too, but it's you that's gotta live with them, and it's your money
10. Yeh i enjoyed! Will hopefully have more time on the next one and we can really start swinging with the gear
11. Just made my way through this thread. Just over 2 hours later.... A lot of good information on here though. Thanks everyone who has chimed in. So i'm going to go down the wired route initially, with some comparatively cheap in ears, although it seems i am merely delaying the inevitable!! Couple more questions if i may..... What is the difference between the Behringer P1 and the HA400 & MA400? Do they all pretty much do the same job? I'm more tempted by the Millenium HPA that has been recommended, but cant see how the aux from the X-18 would connect to it, other than taking two channels? and effectively running 2 separate mixes in stereo? Might well be getting confused here. But there's 6 of us, so we will possibly need the 6 channels. I cant go taking two Secondly, I've looked at the Shure 215s and 315s. Is there a noticeable quality difference between the two? 315s being double the price ....
12. Lot of pages on this thread too I'll make my way through it. Thanks gents
13.
Pretty much - but you'd typically go AUX -> HEADPHONE AMP -> CABLE EXTENSION -> IN EARS
Ok, a whole new world of things to delve into. Wired solution will be fine for me, so if this makes for a better sound too, it's more than likely ill go down this route. Now, to search out some headphone amps!!
14.
Couldn't agree more. Go for OBBMs wired solution if you are on a budget! (You do do the instrument and iem combo cable don't you?)
How does the wired solution work? Still plug a unit into an aux channel? then you are wired from the unit to your ears rather than from a receiver?
15.
Some one used to sell this illegal brand through Amazon last year and I reported them to Offcom. Apparently Offcom regularly check the likes of Ebay etc for illegal wireless equipment offered for sale in the UK and get the adverts stopped and products confiscated. I would steer very clear of cheap illegal wireless kit.
Fair enough. Thanks for the advice Are there any entry level kits you would recommend?
16. It's a bit of a strange one i must admit! Worst we've ever had, was in a stone barn in the middle of nowhere, the place had a noise limiter placed up on the rafters, so we could see it. It was green when all was ok. Turned Amber when approaching the limit, when it turned red it completely cut of the electricity to the onstage power. Unbelievable!! We explained to the customers that this could be a serious issue. Dont know what the limit was set at, but i know it was a quiet gig!!
17.
I'm using Streamliner 900 through 2 x Focus 112's. Does it all for me at every gig. So much so I'm looking to "downgrade" to a Streamliner 600.
Why downgrade? Is it not better to have the power if needed? Not being stupid here, genuinely interested
18. Cant imagine doing it on a phone! That must be tough to even see everything
19. Auditioned for a band, where the songs they asked me to learn were: Jamiroquai - Canned Heat, Otis Redding - Hard to Handle, Abba -Gimme Gimme Gimme & Curtis Mayfield - Move on up Thought it was a really good selection of songs, enjoyed learning them so i was really keen to impress. Got offered to join the band, said yes, and then they gave me their set list...... Dakota, sex on fire, brown eyed girl...... Nothing wrong with these songs but going by the songs they asked me audition, i didn't expect their set list to consist of the "standard" tunes it was. My fault i suppose, never assume!
20.
Gear4Music IEMs are no more - although they were just generic rebranded Chinese efforts. You can find those - but finding them for channel 70 may be a bit difficult. I can have a look for you. For wireless- yes, you are correct - earphones into receiver pack, usually clipped onto you. X-Air18 - well, thats a good starting point!
# Yeh i absolutely love the X-Air 18. Very pleased we went digital!! Thanks for that link. Illegal operating frequency?!? How is this policed? Is it likely to cause problems if we went for that unit for example?
21. Seems we are being too trusting maybe!! We have 20% deposit upfront, with a contract signed stipulating what they can expect from us etc. Maybe i'll bring up the topic that we should start requesting the payment before we play.
22. Cant speak for anyone else or what is "the norm", but we don't ask for it beforehand. Sometimes they will offer it before, and that case we'll take it. If not, we usually either ask the best man/maid of honour after the event. I would say in 90% of the cases though, we haven't had to ask
23. There is a Behringer one somewhere. Could always ask on here though. There are a fair few users i think
24. I thought id ask this in here, but happy to start a thread if you want me to. I'm trying to convince our band to go the "in ear monitoring" route. I remember people talking about the Gear4Music setup as being a good budget set up. I cant find them though? Have they stopped selling their own brands version? After reading a bit of this thread i'm aware the important bit is the earphones, so they are plugged into the receiver pack you clip on your belt i'm guessing? Sorry, i'm new to this type of monitoring so really have no clue. Happy to start a separate thread too Edit to say we are using a Behringer X-Air 18, so with the 6 channel aux output, this set up would be ideal
