1. I havent got experience of the cabs you mention, but i personally play through TKS S112s and love them. Obviously, Barefaced have a great reputation around here too. If i were in your position, i'd possibly try and hold off, and save a little extra to increase your budget. Get a lot more lightweight cab options if you can raise your budget about £100. Like i say though, maybe if i played through a Fender 1X12 i may change my opinion
2. I agree that a lot of tone is from your playing style, but i'd also say your cab is the weakest link. Hard to know without playing through it though...
3. I think you've got quite enough basses?!! Saw this earlier: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/283639-chowny-chb-1-bass-tobacco-burst-2-tone-sunburst/page__fromsearch__1
4. Now advertised elsewhere type BUMP
5. It definitely does. Thanks Marc
6. Yeh i like playing around with it too. Not something i use much, but it's fun, and there hasn't been many (any?) noodles with it yet, so thought i'd chuck it in the mix. Cheers Rob
7. Ok gents, bit rushed this month. Would've liked it to be a bit cleaner but here it is: https://soundcloud.c...a-fied/noodle-3 Yes, i did warn you they might be some slap this month!! The first part of the noodle is kind of a hybrid picking style, and the second is slap. Hope it's not too offensive Edit to say it was recorded with a eden amp simulation (i think) on Line 6 podfarm. Little bass boost, little treble boost. Little compression.
8.
How bizarre... This is EXACTLY the injury and position I am in now! My ligament tear (as I presume yours was a shoulder separation too?) wasn't severe enough for an operation but still was pretty bad. The ache is horrible isn't it? It took me ages to be able to deadlift, press, etc in the gym again but the pain is still there. Will never really go according to the Doctor too. Wouldn't have swapped the fun I had playing rugby for 20 years for anything though. I'll drop him a message so thanks for the advice.
Yeh reading your quote was as if i was reading something i had written a couple of months ago. Yeh, dislocated my shoulder when i was 18, and had problems with it all the way till i was 26 and had the op. The rehab was crappy. Not enjoyable having to "start again" with all the weights and movements i took for granted previously. Back to what i would consider full fitness now but still get the ache. When i sleep on it all night, or when i move in a strange way it will feel funny, so guess the doctor was right. May never totally be better. But yeh, i'd never swap those years for anything else. Gareth might not have any left, but he could at least tell you what they were. Best £20 odd quid ive spent in a while.
9. I am literally in the same situation as you. 32, used to play rugby, bad left shoulder and back. Had an op on my left shoulder to shorten the ligaments and re-attach shoulder. So i wanted a good strap. As i ached really badly after a full gig. Speak to Walbassist (Gareth). He was selling a few straps not long ago. He may still have some? Really wide, and soft leather. Has done the job for me
10. Loved his music. Loved what he stood for. Loved that he did whatever the F*ck he wanted. What a loss.
11. Sounds like a success! Excellent. I take it the "handshake and welcome" means you got the gig?
12.
I'm good on tone, my fingers provide that. However, I struggle with my sound at every gig. I can never get a proper balance of good low end bottom and high end presence to cut through the mix. I've even turned the bass all the way off on my amp and I still hear that mushy undefined low end and not enough treble. Years ago when I had an old school SVT I never had this problem. Blue
What is your gigging rig at the moment Blue?
13. Remember turning up to a bass lesson years ago. Excited i asked "what's in store for today?" Jon said "Today we are going to learn a TLC song" Is this some kind of joke i thought?! Remember listening to the song with Jon playing the bass line over the top and thinking how the hell i'd missed it before. Great bass track. Another i remember being much better to play than i thought it would be was "Gold" by Spandau Ballet
14. Some of those i've not heard of. Will check them out. Nice one
15. I struggle when asked to name my favourite song, but could i name my top 5? Yes, i think i could. Until someone reminds of one i have forgotten at least In no particular order: * Jeff Buckley - You Should Have Come Over * Matt Corby - Brother (acoustic version) * The Roots - The Seed 2.0 * Meatloaf - Paradise by the Dashboard Light * Eyes of Blue - Crossroads of Time Over to you
16.
Didn't Jeff Buckley have six octaves?
It's not what you've got, it's how you use it.... I'm a massive Jeff Buckley fan too. "Lover you should have come over" is in my top 5 songs list Which has me thinking....
17. Just watched the video of them them playing Live Aid. Brilliant. Not particularly a Queen fan, but i loved it. I know that was the original point, but thank you
18.
Are the rosewood pickup covers ' covered ' like EMG's or are the pole pieces exposed like normal J pickups ?
Yes they're completely covered. I'll take some photos of the bass with the rosewood covers on tonight
19. Cheers Karl I agree, think it looks great. Plays so well too. Amazing bass for £550!!!
20. OBBM for all your lead and cable needs. Well, for mine anyway
