1. Ok i can confirm there is no routing under the scratchplate: It has a 40mm neck when i measured. I was surprised at that, because it feels thinner. But i'm guessing because it isn't very thick, thats why it appears this way. It is all original as far as i can tell. Again, i don't claim to be a Fender/Squier expert so i'll happily take someones advice on this. I cant tell the weight for you yet as our bathroom scales are broken. But im sure Dunc will agree, it's lightweight!! I'll get a measurement as soon as i can
2.
Ha! Thought I recognised it. It's a god example. I'm sure that under the plate there's no routing. Best have a look but I'm quite sure you could play it naked.
I'll take a look and post a pic for those who have asked
3. Ive had a couple of questions via PM so i'll put the answers here: A few have asked about the serial number. It is O015717 so this dates it '93 - '94. Bassistclem - it is under the logo, but it's very faded. Don't have an explanation for that, it was like this when i got the bass. It doesn't come with a gig bag. I have very good material for safe packaging though. Check my feedback if in doubt. Not sure on the exact weight, i plan on weighing it when i get in from work, i'll amend the OP then. I'll double check the nut width then too, but i think i remember it being 38mm yes. I have also been asked about the routing under the scratchplate.... i'll look at this after work too. Dunc, yeh this is your old bass. I did debate referencing your old post saying it was the closest thing that guy had played to his '64, but he didn't say it to me, so didn't feel i should. Glad you have chipped in with that info though
4. Thanks Allighatt0r. I didnt want to sell, but we operate on the 1 in, 1 out rule so this is the one that has to go. Great bass for someone at a great price.
5. Didnt have any plans to sell this bass as i feel it's worth a lot more than it's price, but another has come up for sale that i'd really like to try. So this goes to fund that. Here it is: This is a Squier Silver Series Jazz bass, built in Japan. It's played a fair few gigs with me, and been brilliant. It's lightweight, and strung with flats it sits beautifully in the mix, rather than on top of it. It does have some playing wear, and i've shown that as best i can in the photos. I believe it is an early 90s model, but happy to be corrected on that. These basses are highly regarded round these parts, and i totally agree. Don't think there are many better at this pricepoint. All trials welcomed. I can courier the bass, but it will be at buyers expense and risk. Thanks for looking.
6.
Lusting after a Hellwood but with a wenge neck (just love the feel of them) and purpleheart instead of padouk...
7. "Don't be a dick. You are not good enough. Even when you think you are good enough, still, don't be a dick"
8. Basses AJR PJ Singlecut - Now my main gigging bass Warwick Steamer '87 PJ - Now my backup Squier Silver Series Jazz - Because i think it's worth way more than i could sell it for Farida fretless - Just incase i need a fretless Amp Kustom KXB 500 - Amazing piece of kit for the pricepoint, and any pricepoint Cabs 2 X TKS S112s - One for small gigs and onstage monitoring. Second one comes along if needed I have a TC electronic clip on tuner and a Sansamp driver that i keep incase i need a DI. I have a few pedals that i dont use anymore (Source Audio distortion, Boss Tuner, Chorus & Flanger) Not much point in selling them though
9.
I've been after an Aguilar SL112 for a while now and am planning to go into a music store later today because nothing's come up here. Hoping one continues to not come up after I've spent £655.
I'd probably wait and try for this first... 10. I'd have to agree with Keefbaker. If he doesn't want to listen to any advice/criticism, he is always going to keep doing these things that annoy you, and you'll end up walking.
11. Im sure it's pretty open ended. Whatever works best for you to give your sound etc. But from my point of view, work on accuracy of your picking. i.e picking just the string you intend play. It'll do no harm if you mute the unplayed strings with your palm too, but if you get your accuracy up initially, you can decide to play however you want in future, in the knowledge you can be precise if you need/want to be. When picking it's always useful to think of economy of motion too. The up and down picking motion should come from your wrist, not your elbow. This will help you later on if you want to play something fast. Hope that helps
12. We've been using the X18 for about 6 months now. Took a while to get used to it. But it's great. Wouldn't ever go back out of choice
13.
I did one https://soundcloud.c...robot/noodle-01 not very bassy, though...
Somehow missed this one! Loved it though. Great chord choices
14. If you're a little worried about joining a band because of your skill level, make an ad and be totally honest in your advert about where you feel your at? Include in it that you just want to get in a band for the enjoyment first and see where it goes. Say the types of songs you want to play, or can already play. This way you're going to get people who are thinking along similar lines to yourself. Practice can be tedious when it has no purpose. Arrange to meet people to play through a few songs, and you got yourself a purpose! For me, there is no feeling like hearning your bass in the context of a full band. Beats solitary practice hands down.
15. http://www.amazon.com/Kustom-Amps-KXB500-500-Watt-Class/dp/B005PHD4ZG You can still get some, but people have realised their value, so they aren't as cheap as they were. Still a bargain though!! That's fair enough about the frequency response. I wouldnt have thought to look at that either!
16. You thinking of swapping your PUMA for the TC head? Any reason behind this thinking, or just fancied a change? I have a Kustom KXB 500 that i absolutely love. I swapped my PUMA for it and haven't looked back. I live in Bridgend, if you want a go of that, you'd be welcome
17. Yeh we always have 2 written down on the set as encores incase we are asked.
18.
We've always done this, as have most of the previous formations in which I've played. Our present criteria are guided more, now, by my physical (lack of...) abilities, so as to give me much-needed respite from the more up-tempo numbers, but the 'flow' as you call it, is in my view, a very important factor in the success of any set. Always worth working on, but not to over-think, of course. If drop tunings are involved, grouping to keep tune up/down sessions to a minimum; otherwise try to keep the key changes flowing (don't follow a song in 'A' with another in 'A' etc...). I thought all bands did this.
I don't suggest following a song in A, with another in A. I meant, for example, a song finishes on B, so I'll try to put the next song in the list starting in C maybe. That way a small chromatic run, and we're straight into it. Totally agree that if i grouped all the songs in A it might start sounding a bit tedious. Although, i wonder if the general public who don't play music themselves would even notice?
19. We didn't ever just make it up on the fly. But I felt there was no clear structure to it. Now, i have written a few bars of music to go between some songs, organised a few where the band will come in off a vocal cue. A few will be straight count and in etc I agree, i hate it when it seems a band is having a conversation about what to play next after every song
20. Yeh there's always room to edit on the fly. We usually have 4 or 5 "on the side" that we can swap in, if for example a certain genre is going over better
21. I've been spending quite some time these last couple of days arranging our setlist. I've been trying to make it have a kind of natural flow. Aware that you need to hit highs and then pull back , then build up again. That's what she said etc etc I'm also trying to group songs into 3s or 4s, and create segways to move between each, then have planned pauses at the end of these "groupings". To try to keep the momentum going, and i think it just looks more professional. So i'm also trying to group songs that are in keys that match etc. So my question to you fine people....Too much?? Anyone else think about it to this degree?
22.
Here's my entry. Didn't do what I originally had planned as I reckon two tracks would be cheating so I've done this with just the one track. Also I hope folk don't mind but it says 1:02 but there's a bit of silence either side...I forgot to edit it out and I've now just realised I forgot to save... https://soundcloud.c...sschat-noodle-1
CHEAAATTTTT!! Ban himmmmm!! Nice Cam. Enjoyed that
23.
So how would you argue regarding efficiency?
Depends on what you hope to gain from using the technique. If you want to get the percussive sound that double thumbing can give, its probably/possibly easier to get that with a thumb. If you just want to use it because it can give you...quicker 16ths for example. Maybe you could look at using a plectrum. But saying all this, there is no "wrong" way for anything. If it works for you, it's good to go
