Working out bass parts by ear - any tips/methods?
FuNkShUi replied to Naetharu's topic in General Discussion
I will split the song up into its parts. Usually it's Intro, verse, pre chorus, chorus, and a bridge. Sometimes not even that many parts! Then listen, play, re-listen, play and so on until i have it. I don't often worry about getting it exactly the same as the song unless the bassline is the main riff of the song. Put your own slant on it. Aslong as you don't go too far from the original, you're golden -
I have no doubt of the quality this bass is going to be. Andys' work has been incredible IMO. That being the reason I asked him if he would be interested in this project in the first place

Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass with Upgrades

Selling to fund a custom build. Since our band has invested in a new P.A, the bass goes through that. That makes this brilliant cab overkill for just onstage monitoring! As i have said, i am trying to fund a custom build, so rather than have it sit there, i'll move it on. I'm sure others will agree to how good these are. The clarity of the notes, and dispersion of the sound are the best i've played through in one unit! Here's a bit of spec from the Barefaced website: DIMENSIONS - 15" high x 24" wide x 13" deep 38cm x 61cm x 33cm WEIGHT - 14 kg / 31 lbs (steel grill) 13 kg / 28 lbs (cloth grill) BROADBAND SENSITIVITY - 98dB USABLE FREQUENCY RANGE - 30Hz - 6kHz RECOMMENDED AMP POWER - 100-500W RMS (safe with up to 800W if you're running fairly clean sounds) Here are some photos: Only issue the cab has is the material on the back coming away a little. Alex has kindly provided some glue to stick it back down. I haven't because i havent used it since we've had the P.A, and it didn't bother me anyway. The glue and applicator will be included though. Apart from that, it's in brilliant condition as you can see. All trials welcomed. I can ship but it will be at the buyers expense and risk. Any questions, just ask. Again, not looking at trades as i'm only selling to fund a custom build. This is something a bit special for this price IMO. Its a Squier VM jazz, that has a Babicz full contact bridge and Wilkinson pickups. It has the lowest action of any bass i've played. Looks great too The sound has clarity and bite, and can sound quite aggressive. But also works for motown and disco, which is what i've used it for. The Fender decal was already on the bass when i bought it. I know this isn't far what a new one goes for, but with the mods and with the way it plays, i fully feel it justifies this price, and i actually think it plays like a bass worth a whole lot more. If the person who buys this isn't happy with it for £250, send it back and i'll refund your money. That's how confident i am that this bass is worth every penny. Its in amazing condition. No marks on it that i can see. Will come with a soft gig bag. Trials welcome. Pickup preferred but will ship at buyers expense and risk. Here's the photos: Any questions, feel free to ask

Haven't had this all that long, but i've decided to go for a custom build, as this way i'll be sure to have a bass that meets all my needs That being said, this is a really high quality instrument IMO. Plays great, sounds great. I used to be the same. But i used to try to play it in a position i thought looked "cool". Placed it at the height to mimic where it would be if i were sitting down, and i dont have a problem anymore. Do you notice if you sometimes tilt it back towards you when sitting down? So you can inadvertently see the fretboard? When your standing up this doesn't happen, so is it this you're struggling with? Could it be something to do with the angle you have it at when sitting down? What leg do you rest it on? I ask, because if you're right handed, but rest it on your left knee ( a kind of classical trait i'd say), it'd be tilted at a harsher angle than when you are standing up.

I did. Although i went from a HD112 and a HD210. I now have 2 TKS S112s. You wont hear any complaints from me about them.

Old strings Don't know what gauge they are as I have never changed them! Low action but without fretbuzz. I value being able to control my dynamics, so I set the volume higher than necessarily needed, and play lightly. When I want/need to dig in,then you will know about it
