1. I'd be interested to hear some reviews on this! £289 from Thomann seems to be a decent enough price too. Edit to say it seems they aren't in stock till 16.10.15
2. The one song which i initially struggled with was Gimme Gimme Gimme by ABBA. Bit of a leveller that was!
3. Kind of similar. I had always played lots of different styles. The usual - Motown, Blues, Rock , Funk etc. As you said, i think i just got comfortable. Started playing a few disco numbers with our band a few months ago. Shocked at how hard i found them to start with. All those octaves tested my little finger!! All good now, but i had to work at it to get the muting between octaves. To play the parts as clean as i wanted wasn't as simple as i expected it to be. Definitely made me think about how accurate the rest of my playing is and brought it up another level (IMO YMMV etc etc) I've also got a Warwick
4.
It's also made a world of difference with our IEM setup as everyone is now able to adjust their own mix via their own smartphones/iPads.
Didnt even think about this option. Im guessing you only have 5 in your band? Im assuming this because your only allowed 5 platforms to be logged to each X18.... or am i missing something?
5. I like singlecuts. Especially some Sei i've seen. Not a fan of this one though
Maybe the reason that the OP was fixated on non-boutique products was because he wanted to find a rig that could be easily specified on tech riders for gigging/touring overseas - doubt that it is easy to find a Bergantino cab in Romania or Kazakhstan, but Hartke probably no problem.
Why only 10s then?? HMmmmm ?!

I have no problem with Tbonepete being specific in his requests (only 2X10, not boutique etc), if thats what he has his heart set on, that's fine. Its the reluctance to say why is a little strange to me
8.
What is the latency like on these cheaper digital solutions??
I've had no issues at all.
I helped my local sound man set up the Wifi for his tablet and Behringer desks; he'd not go out without it now. The ease of use and ability to control from anywhere in the venue (including the bar...) are key factors; in fact I can think of no real downsides, especially as the cost is now more than reasonable. If our band were gigging more, I'd not hesitate in going fully digital. Too late for old duffers like me, but indeed, a quantum leap, I'd agree.
There are far more expensive digital desks, but i think at just over £500 the Behringer is brilliant value for money in my opinion!
9. I use the X - 18, not the X air 18. Its the exact same interface/app though. I use it on an ipad. Ours sits on top of the power amp, which sits behind the drummer
10. It is a brilliant cab! I love mine. Sorry it didn't suit your needs Dave
11. I've been using the exact mixer you've been on about for the last few gigs. I'm by no means an expert, but have got a decent handle on things. With regards to reliability I don't feel I can comment after only using it for 5 gigs, but it's been great for those 5. Make of that what you will really. When you set it up originally i recommend putting a key on your mixer (password), so that it's not an open wifi service that anyone can sign onto. If you do that you won't have any problems with randoms logging onto your wifi and knocking you off. It's an easy fix if they do, you just reset the router, but putting the password on negates these problem anyway. This is the only negative I have found really. Well, that and It has been a steep learning curve, but it's brilliant. About a hundred different effects to choose from is a massive plus point. Saves a lot of rack space! Visual EQ is handy. Also handy should a frequency feedback. You can literally See which frequency band is the culprit straight away. Once you get the hang of it, it's a huge time saver, and money saver. All the channels can be preset to how each specific person likes their sound. Hugely customisable. I was originally hesitant to go digital, but now I'm glad we have made the jump. Being able to mix from all points in the room is certainly very handy. What happens if the tablet dies? Nothing. There is still the same sound you had before it dies, but you won't be able to alter the sound anymore. Bring a charger with you at all times though, and your golden. Anything else you'd like to know?

Ive used the PUMA and that certainly does super clean. Can i ask why you're adament on 2X10s? Any reason in particular? If you are only using them for monitoring would you even need 2 of them? The flattest response cab i've ever played through is Barefaced.
13. This is what i was getting at. I don't really care about what constitutes as "wrong". Just appreciating what he did to get the audience clapping when he wanted them to i guess
14.
The audience aren't out of time though... They are just clapping on the "wrong" beats. And it's only convention that dictates you should clap on beat 2 and 4 of this style of music rather than 1 and 3.
Sorry, i'll be more precise next time and say they aren't clapping to the conventional beats Although, i think you know what i was getting at.
Wynton Marsalis tells a lovely story about a gig he did (why do I think it was in England?) where this happened. The audience of square White Anglo Saxon Protestants were all clapping on 1 and 3 whilst this 7 year old kid at the front, who clearly had not yet been inducted into the world of English Folk music, was clicking his fingers on 2 and 4 and nodding his head like a brother
Brilliant
15. I'm glad other people are impressed by this. I was concerned i might be nerding out over it on my own
16. The fact he thought to do it just shows it must have been annoying him. Fair play to him for the quick thinking!
17. https://www.youtube....h?v=yD3iaURppQw In this clip the audience are clapping on the 1 and 3 instead of 2 & 4. So in his solo, Harry Connick throws in a 5/4 bar to correct it. It happens at about 39 seconds in, and is bloody genius. I cant stop watching it! Audience are totally oblivious to the schooling they've just received
18. Just completed a trade with Dunc. All went as it should. He even sent his bass to me before i was able to send mine up to him. Have full confidence, and wouldn't hesitate to do some business with him again. Cheers
19. Gold on The Ceiling by the Black Keys is really easy. Good tune too. Cocaine blues by Johnny Cash is simple and a winner too
20. My strings are old. Havent changed them since i bought the bass in 2011. It's the sound i try for on any of my basses now. Never considered flats before this bass, but that's what id replace them with now should i ever need to. But ive never had tuning issues.
21. Bargain. Someone snap this up! Lozz is great to deal with too.
22.
Talking of BF, ive now come to the conclusion that my Retro two 10 has enough warmth and vintage vibe that i dont actually need a warmer head now. In fact im selling my Darkglass and wont even need a BDDI any more.
Im relieved
23. For me, there is no doubt that you can be a good, even great player without having lessons. But after experiencing what i would consider a brilliant teacher, it always makes me think how much better those people could be. If however you are happy with where you are at, and you can play everything you need, thats cool too. But are they worth the money? With a good teacher, no doubt about it IMO.
24.
there's so much stuff on you tube I do wonder if they are a waste of money, I've never had a lesson and managed to play the stuff I want to play, Most people when they start just want to play something they like, lots of teachers (not all) kill the initial enthusiasm by trying to get too technical or give the pupils something to learn that they're not in to.
How do you know if you've not had a lesson? You should try, and see what you get out of it. You may be surprised
