I've got a '87 streamer and it's my favourite bass I've ever played. Supremely slim neck, so I'm assuming yours is the same? Cracking bass, at a cracking price type of bump
2. Ive never really been a fan of flatwounds, so i don't know what is "normal practice". But i didnt think people who used flatwounds would play with a pick? Kind of defeats the point doesn't it? I'm more than happy to accept i'm wrong about this BTW but if you are looking to get no "picky treble or twang", i'd suggest learning to play with fingers (if you cant already?) If you are looking for "pillowy thump", boosting your low mids should help if you have that option
3.
See how far off you are just by playing what you hear.. and then fill in the gaps. You tube has some good pointers but mostly for the obvious and popular stuff...
This is what i do. I can get pretty close just listening. I'll have a go, and if any parts are wrong, or not close enough, ill spend 5 minutes working them out. I dont stress if its not 100% correct. 98% will do me and the majority of "Joe Public"
4. Don't be flash. Concentrate on "sitting in the pocket". I agree with whoever said about showing them your 'tricks' at a later date. Or just before you set down so they have something to remember you by. It would kind of be a bookmark on your audition
5. Stu bought my Bergantino cab. Everything was straight forward. Paid quickly, communication was easy, alllll good. Wouldn't hesitate to do business with Stu again. Cheers mate
6. Ashdown has really taken a hammering on this thread hasn't it?! I've never played through one, so can't comment from a players perspective, but a mate plays through an all ashdown rig, and I have to say, I quite like his sound. Really full, warm, bassy tones, and not woolly at all.
7. Worst I've played through is a 10w line6 combo. Still got it though. It does the job for learning new tunes. But make no mistake, it's awful.
8.
Boost the mids on your amp slightly.
Yup. This would be my suggestion
9. Higher and higher Sir duke Soul Man Long train running In the midnight hour Superstitious (if you can't already play it) I feel good As ChrisB said, get on YouTube and type in Motown classics. Hours of fun
10. If you are really looking to impress, find out their set, and learn a couple they haven't asked you to learn. And have fun. I think someone who looks to be having fun is going to get the job over someone who looks like they have sand in their pants
11.
Indeed.... I think it would be hard to get a bad sound and if you did, it wouldn't be those bits of kit at fault.. IMO
Yeh I agree.
12. This is the exact rig Ill have once my speakers arrive. Glad to hear you're so happy with it. I don't play too much rock stuff, but nice to know it can go there. I'm playing mostly Motown stuff at the minute, so I hope it performs just as well! I think it will
13. Wow. Didn't think this would be up again anytime soon. Bump for a quality jazz!
14. I'm guessing you're the person who actually won it in the auction? So jfader was trying to sell it before he had it? I'm not calling anyone out by the way, I'm just trying to understand the situation.
15.
Ah, I so nearly went for that!! I do love my S112. Not even tempted to get another as the one is more than enough for what I need!
When i tried a few speaker/amp combos in Bassgear yesterday, i was amazed how responsive and loud the S112 was. Just as a side note, Vic and Phil in BassGear were great. Really helpful. Loved the shop!! Top end gear everywhere. I could have stayed the week and still had more stuff to oogle at. Didnt meet Barrie, but had a great day up there! The coffee was top notch aswel
16. I went for the brown 7w pattern vinyl, with the beige/brown cloth. I like to keep things understated
17. Just ordered myself a pair of s112s. Very excited
18.
Other options are the new range of Fender Rumble amps They are even lighter again. I tried the Rumble 100 recently, and was surprised at how loud it was, the quality of sound, and useful features, but I was stunned at how amazingly light it was
This is what i was going to suggest
19. The 112 has gone. If anyone wants the 210 let me know, otherwise it'll probably get part exchanged on Thursday
20. They look goooooood Any chance of a review once you've had a good play?
21. Weekend bump Had some interest but nothing firm yet. I have good packaging so I can courier at buyers expense
22. Just a suggestion, but with a value this high, i would say pictures will help your sale. GLWTS
23. Yeh, count me as another who'd be very interested to hear what you make of it!! I like the idea of being able to completely change your sound by phone. Might just be a bit gimmicky, but lets see!
