Class mate. Love that song about the Yellow Walrus
-
I'm all for discussion, and sharing opinions/ideas. Didn't mean that. It's the people that seem to be getting upset and worked up because someones opinions doesn't match theirs.
-
It's funny to me how people are getting so worked up because of other peoples opinions. Chill out! We don't all like the same thing. The world goes on! If someone else dislikes something you do like, it shouldn't diminish your enjoyment. There is no "right" or "wrong", just opinion.

£300 each. 2 X 1 hour sets Helps that the owner of the pub saw us at a wedding 3 years ago and loved us. We don't play too many pubs, so i'm actually really looking forward to it. Much better than what i'd otherwise be doing on NYE (absolutely nothing)

Depends on the genre you play, but for what we play, he has to "hit the one" as JB used to say

Whatever works best for what i'm playing. Im not either/or

Ive been playing live for 17 years. Worst i've had is a dodgy cable, and a battery that needed replacing. Never had a issue with amps breaking or speakers blowing etc. I don't recall ever breaking a string either?

Really exciting songs...let's see what gets your blood pumping
FuNkShUi replied to redbandit599's topic in General Discussion
Dont know if it's exciting, but this song from Thrice gets me pumped up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tghjkKiSCz4 I have a whole playlist of this type of music, that i do enjoy, but otherwise don't listen to. SOIL , Disturbed, 5 finger death punch, SlickShoes, BFMV etc Sorry, i don't know how to embed the video. Remove the "s"? Something like that? -
I was asked today to play in the Black Jam Circus, but i'm too busy with my band. I have no affiliation with the band, but looking at their stuff, they seem like a really good band, so i said i'd post on here to advertise the position. Here's the bands Facebook so you can see what they're all about: https://www.facebook.com/blackjamcircus/ If your in South Wales, and this seems like something that would interests you, let me know and i can put you in contact. Cheers

We were hesitant about it, but for a relatively small investment, we booked 6 weddings from our last fayre. One thing i would say, is to check if you can have a full band (some have let us, some only allow acoustic). Then, if you can have a full band, we try to let everyone know (other stalls and guests) when we will be performing. We usually say we will perform 3 songs on the hour. Worked for us anyway

Love it. Really unique.

If its weddings you are looking for, what about wedding fayres? They have been really good for us in the past

Don’t let your wife loose on the Maruszczyk configurator

Love it! Out of interest, what price did that come out at? -
For £50 you cant go wrong really can you?! Looks nice too!

It takes away the peaks from playing. Smooths everything out. So if you dig in particularly hard, that peak in volume will get "cut off", and it wont sound so harsh. I'm sure there is a more technical way to explain it. But the reason most people would use them, is the reason i don't. I like to have control over the dynamics of my playing, and every compressor i've tried has taken away some of the "colour" of what makes my playing , my playing (for better or for worse )

I don't understand why you'd want to change it personally? Think it's a nice part
-
That's expensive. I guess because your buying from a shop you have to factor in their overheads etc. But you can pick up fantastic Streamers from the 80's on here from between £1000 - £1500 Some examples: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/313303-warwick-streamer-stage-i-4-nt/page__p__3395190__hl__streamer__fromsearch__1#entry3395190 (i know this is 92, still looks like a nice example) http://basschat.co.uk/topic/313464-sold1991-warwick-streamer-stage-one-sold/page__p__3392619__hl__streamer__fromsearch__1#entry3392619 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/304027-1986-warwick-streamer-sold/page__p__3288881__hl__streamer__fromsearch__1#entry3288881

First proper paid gig....lessons learnt
FuNkShUi replied to DorsetBlue's topic in General Discussion
I heard an anecdote re wedding gigs once (it's probably not true, but I like the ethos of it); customer says to band member "What, you want £800 to play at my daughters wedding? £800 just for music?" "Fair enough" says the band member "Phone up and ask 5 plumbers what they'd charge.... for 5-6 hours.... on a Saturday night... finishing past midnight, and see what they say!" "tell you what" he continued "we'll do it for half their quote!"
Whoever told you that must be a clever bloke We play mostly weddings, and i do enjoy them. But there is no doubt, you're often hanging around 3 to 4 hours before playing, to be able to set up at a time which suits the wedding planner etc. Worst part is, they mostly run late and you could have turned up two hours later anyway! But at someones wedding, you cant take that chance. You just have to turn up when they say. There are definitely Pro's and Cons to it. -
Bought a bass from Andy. Even caught a train to my place to make sure the bass was delivered safely. Thanks mate, hope you found a decent bacon sarnie in town !

I play in a primarily wedding/function band. But we do play the odd pub gig for potential customers to be able to come and watch us. For weddings, you can charge what you like. Whether you get booked is another matter. I think you just need to be realistic with it. Take a look at the wedding bands that are established in your area. Do an honest assessment of your band. Then try to calculate what you think you can charge based off that. As for pub gigs, we don't play many of them, maybe 4 a year, and we get £300 a go.
