  1. It's all subjective but it does display a distinct lack of imagination IMO, I do wonder how they went with it.
  2. Not the same thing though. TRB preamp circuit and pickups.
  3. That sea foam green 550 I posted earlier was imported. The 550 was only for the Japanese market apparently.
  4. I'm sure that's a big part of the reason I pick it up and play it quite a bit, it doesn't feel like you're carting the full hog around.
  5. There is a listing for an SBV500 on US ebay that states 3.7kg/8.15 pounds. Sounds about right.
  6. Nice. I've got one in red. The ceramic pickups are excellent I've found, when I used to swap between a Yamaha TRB5 onstage which had the internal trim pots goosed as well as the external eq, there wasn't a very big difference between the output levels to adjust to. The tone pot is an odd one, it takes off some top but seems to highlight some lower mids at the same time. The neck I find really nice too, and the softer feeling tension. I'm a fan, I wouldn't sell them. The 500 sounds like a jazz bass characteristic without the high end sizzle to me. Mellower sort of jazz bass.
  7. If I had to go on compliments for sound, from band leaders and other bassists, it would have to be this, Yamaha SBV550. I have an SBV500 too. I've played Fender/MusicMan/Warwick in those same bands. "I think you should play that all the time", from two bandleaders, so that's what i did for quite a while.
  8. Never understood the single cut thing, as far as I can see it just adds more weight.
  9. I have become very attached to this Sire M7 fretless 5 since I bought it, many months ago now. Well over the honeymoon period. Very versatile.
  10. The back end of a Rickenbacker, glued to the front end of a Precision, with hair metal head-stock...
  11. It ain't over until the fat lady sings, really badly. And then it's the retirement tours... "I'm going now." "I'm really going this time." "Am I still here? I should have been gone ages ago..." "Alright, one for the road, and then I'm really going..."
  12. People will pay for any old bunk. Elton John has been barking like a walrus for years.
  13. I think it's the difference between a soloed back pickup ala Jaco and a blend between both ala Marcus really.
  14. Part bass, part ears I would say. A low B starts at around 30hz, it's not the sensitive end of our spectrum. That's why you can get away with ropey intonation at the bottom end of a fretless neck, but not at the top.
  15. Frank White: How come you never came to see me? Jump: Who wanted to see you in a cage, man? King of New York.
  16. A Jazz bass. The difference between Marcus Miller's sound and Jaco's are worlds apart. Need two pickups, choice is nice.
