  1. Ramps are the way to go IMO, a consistent recovery distance all of the time, it stops you from over-travelling and digging in too much. Many players gravitate to playing over the pickups, for that effect. Having a consistent recovery distance, seems like common sense to me. You don't have to buy a ramp, set your back pickup to the same height as your action and tweak from there.
  2. It hasn't got an ego to deal with though. That's worth it alone.
  3. The secret to retaining your mystique is to quit before you become a parody. Having someone who can actually sing helps too.
  4. "Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way..."
  5. Learning note for note? The payoffs are increasing your aural skills, interval and pattern recognition, working on the best hand positions for fluidity, an insight into a players note choices and style... Or you could always choose one of the hack excuses, if you can't be bothered.
  6. " "There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge." Isaac Asimov. Just replace United States with Britain.
  7. The Daily Mail has the highest circulation in the UK. What does that say...
  8. "I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but I see you are unarmed." Just because you don't understand them, you don't have to try and rubbish their context...
  9. Funk is about space and where to use it, not trying to fill all of it all of the time. No room to breathe... Far from breathing new life into funk, it's suffocating it. I don't consider Vulpeck to be a legit funk band. If I was asked to recommend something funky, it would't be that. It hasn't got it.
  10. I heard that the bassist had a falling out with the producer, apparently: "So I guess you're going to scrub my track then, are you?" Said the bassist. "Nooooooo, I can do better than that", said the producer, "I'll make you famous, for all the wrong reasons..." So he chopped up and edited his line and timing...
  11. Compare the traffic of the Basses forum to Technique. Carpenter's "They Live" was based on Neo-liberalism. The worship of consumerism. "Banker Paul Mazur of Lehman Brothers saw the way forward: "We must shift America from a needs, to a desires culture. People must be trained to desire, to want new things even before the old had been entirely consumed. We must shape a new mentality in America. Man's desires must overshadow his needs." Paul Mazur, 1920s.
  12. Endless talk of products, next to nothing about actually playing them. I t̶h̶i̶n̶k̶ consume, therefore I am.
  13. Yes. It's trying to be something it's not...
  14. Why not just buy a Jazz bass? Why not just buy a StingRay? If you don't understand the principles of advertising, that's not my fault. Remind me what the question is again, I'm losing interest.
  15. Yes. You should have stayed in school.
  16. Hope that isn't based in reality is magical thinking IMO. My only concern is how bad things are going to get.
  17. “The principles underlying propaganda are extremely simple. Find some common desire, some widespread unconscious fear or anxiety; think out some way to relate this wish or fear to the product you have to sell; then build a bridge of verbal or pictorial symbols over which your customer can pass from fact to compensatory dream, and from the dream to the illusion that your product, when purchased, will make the dream come true. They are selling hope." Aldous Huxley, Brave New World Revisited. A Joe Dart whatever won't make you play like Joe Dart. Also look up 'Final Stage Capitalism.' When manufacturers have run out of ideas, they market any old absurdity, to keep the wheels of industry turning.
  18. I think the Vulfpeck thing sounds like a chattering train track. I don't think it's funky at all. That's my opinion.
  19. No one. I'm asking which of those tracks sounds like funk to you? You could answer the question, rather than go for the strawman.
  20. Brexit kicked in properly from January this year. We'll see, if the MSM actually report it...
