5. It's all about the lights dude. How does that Line 6 sound in a live situation? I'm after a Bass POD Pro, the rackmounted one before they went XT etc. It looks like your rack is the same size of your cab. Have you ever thought abount getting a rackcase on wheels, and placing it beside the cab? Just an idea, as it looks like a lump to place on top of the cab!
Well, here's mine. After some searching out of stuff (such as procuring the Pod XT Pro from Tombboy) it's all finally come together and it's somewhat monstrous. Not in terms of the amount of speakers or cabs, but in other ways. Some of you may think that I've taken the processing much too far. However, it's all on the treble side and the Pod is in the Digitech's loop which is mainly to prevent gain stacking. At the moment, I'm running through making patches for the buzzard. The fun starts when I have to make patches for the Alembic and the 8 string. Totally different animals.
6. As you may tell from my sig i am a big fan of GK. Have been since i saw Duff McKagan play, and his rig certainly rattled my rib-cage. For live shows i use the uber-versatile 2001RB with either 1 or 2 GK 410RBH cabs. For smaller shows i have the amp sat to the side of the cab, and the RBH cabs can be tilted back for better monitoring in smaller venues. I have also used a 700RBii in the past, however i wanted more power and in-built distortion. Also the 2001rb is the only GK Artist head that has FX loop/Tuner out on the back. Something to consider when having lots of rack gear. If anyone is around the West Sussex/East Sussex/Hampshire area you're more then welcome to come to a show and try my rig. Also i have never had ANY GK gear fail on me and i rehearse twice a week, and gig most weekends!
 7. Only just found this review. So pardon me if you didn't want it resurrected. I have the same amp and run it through 2x GK RBH 410s, and it is the best amp i've ever heard. My main reason for buying, is that I am a big fan of Duff McKagan, and he has used this since it was introduced. I love his sound, and i get it with the gear i have. As you say it can be overkill, but at least you know you always have clean head-room. The ONLY downside to this amp is that it is heavy, i have mine mounted in a shock mount rack case. Its a shame GK doesn't put the distortion channel on the smaller Artist range of amps, as most people could gig with the 700RB and 1001RB. Also their Distortion Pedal is not EU compliant, making it not available to buy in Europe. Thanks for the review dude.
Off the top of my head I think we've tried a nice Fender with split single coils, Washburn, Warwick, and a crappy Squier. Can't remember which models of each. Gain always pretty low, never above about a third on clean channel level or 'boost'. I think there is a problem with interference from fields (we have a hearing aid loop which causes endless problems) but I thought it was worth mentioning that at least in the situation I'm in passive basses are really tough to control whereas active ones are just plug in and play.
8. Eddie Van Halen and Zakk Wylde do it. Then again, they were probably high at the time.
Why?....
9. Awesome Amp. Suprised there has been no response. Might be worth mentioning this is the only amp used by Duff McKagan and Flea for years! It is capable of typical 80s clean sounds, through to modern medal distortion and everything in between. But it is bloody heavy... Good luck with the sale. I'd have it if i needed a spare, and the misses was a bit more accomodating to large heavy equipment in the way of her shoe collection.
Dear All, Owing to the recent purchase of an Ampeg SVP-Pro and a poweramp, I no longer need my trusty and much-loved massive GK head. So it's for sale. It's a GK 2001RB, the top-of-the-line model, twin 540W power stages with twin 50W horn amps (if you have bi-ampable cabs). Bridgeable to 1080W. Note that you don't need bi-ampable cabs, for example I've never used them, you just use the main power stages full range. It has a footswitchable drive channel which sounds about 1000 times better than any pedal I've ever heard. Footswitch included naturally. All mod cons eg DI pre/post eq and so on and so on. I need hardly say that it is capable of feats of savage power like unto a supernova. On the plus side, it's super-quiet in terms of fan noise and channel hiss, so you don't have to kill your audience if you don't want to. It's in the condition you'd expect from an amp that's spent its whole short life rack mounted. However, I did balls it up a bit so that the lugs for the front lid of the rack dinged the paintwork on the front of the head slightly (see pictures). Didn't have much choice though, I didn't want a weight like this suspended in mid-air in the rack! So, I love it to bits but I've gone valve. The major con is that it's heavy; it weighs 20kg. But if you're young and fit or have roadies / mothers then that's not a problem. Price? These are in my opinion quite good value new, the last one I saw go used went on evilbay for £650, so let's start there. Pics included. Collection please, or will meet for petrol money. There is a small chance of persuading me to post it but the costs will be significant - I warn you! I'm based in Derby. Many thanks for looking! Jon
10. Dude, you know you want to! If THAT Bass should go into anyones collection on this forum, it should be yours. Give the bass, the home it needs!
VERY nice.... I'm tempted.... but as I prob need to sell some stuff myself, I shouldn't buy other stuff! lol!
11. If only it had a girly jazz neck! :-(
 12. I work in a shop that sells tons of the Marshall MB stuff. They are seriously good for the money. But i would say the same as LeonShelley01, that the 4410 is stupidly big and heavy. Go down the 4210 and MBC115 route for sure, as you could get away with the combo only at most gigs.
I have the MB4210 and I've been really pleased with it, capable of some great tones. The modern channel is great for slap tones, and the classic has a real grind to it. Be aware the classic channel is quieter than the modern channel, but you can compensate by using the blend facility. I did try the MB4410 (it's enormous!) but decided the 4210 was more than sufficient for rehearsals, and just bought the 1x15 extension cab to add at gigs. I know another person on this forum has had reliability issues with theirs, but I haven't had any problems so far (nearly two years). Final thought: Love mine, but try before you buy because everybody's different.
13. Does anyone know where i can get a minature Thumb rest. Like the standard Fender Jobbies but about half the size? Weird request i know, but the position i need mine requires it to be a lot smaller.
 14. Doh how stupid of me. Thats so obvious! Thanks Doc!
Sorry, can't do linky things, but if you go on the Seymour Duncan website and select the standard Jazz wiring diagram, just imagine missing out the tone pot i.e. take the 'hot' lead from the 2nd volume pot (left leg looking at the diag) straight to the + on the jack.
15. Hey Guys I got a parts bass i am trying to wire together a Seymour Duncan SJB-3b and SPB-3 (Standard PJ Pickups) I would like to wire these two two volumes, no tone control straight to the socket. I have wired them up as i think, but i just get the pickups both on at the same time, and the volumes dont work. Can anyone help?
 16. Or find a Nirvana Tribute band and lend it to them for a tour.
Don't listen to these snobs - do it! Get that belt sander out and give it hell!
17. Another (late) vote for the old Brown Boss CE-2b. Love mine. Although my Yamaha SPX-90 sounds better, but thats a rack unit with all my other gubbins, and not as easy to transport on the smaller gigs these days.
I know this thread is nearly a year old, but it might be worth looking at a Boss CE-5. It works fine for bass, and has a two band filter at the end. I've not used it to effect just the lows, more the other way around, but it might do what your after. It does of course have more of a modern sheen to it than some 'analogue' pedals, even though the earlier one were actually very clean-sounding analogue. From what I've heard, the newer (post mid '90's!) ones sound much the same as the older. I'm away from home and pedals at the moment, but if I remember I will see how well I can do just the lows with it.
18. Thanks dude. Will get on the case. I was really wondering whether they were an industry standard size. I'll ask.
Hi you have the same problem most GK users have with castors. They are just not up to life on the road. Here's an address of an Ebay shop that can supply pretty much any kind of castor you want. MSA WHEELS AND CASTORS LTD. Prices are fair. You probably won't find a direct replacement but it's not too hard to fit them. Cheers Gelfin
19. Looks similar to an Ibanez i saw recently. God knows where though. I can date this pretty much on the Neckplate. I reckon it was a Friday, around 4.30pm. LOL Awesome looker though! May i ask how much?
Just picked this up = Plays & Feels great, Any info would be aprechiated, Checked previous threads etc, seen a similar 6 string Guitar, Only poor finish on the bass is its nech plate, Its well on the Pi$$. All looks original though, No chewed screw heads etc and its full of battle scars. Bridge is rotten but i aint gona clean it. I also have the Bridge & Pickup covers. Thanks J =
20. Wash your mouth out! Pervert...
lake placid blue, maple...very dirty.
21. Hey Dude Im not 100% on the technicality. For me it was a way of safely powering a rack load of gear, the rack light is a god send in badly lit venues, or pre-show tweaks. Also the voltage meter on mine i use, as you can check the voltage before you turn the power on for your rig. (Basically the LED Display is lit as soon as you plug in the Power Conditioner. Also as far as i am aware mains electricity can contain "noise", this can be amplified with the more gear you use. Hence why i use it with a rack load! I suppose it could also be described as a filter for all of this, thus making your gear work more efficiently and possibly sound clearer? This can be argued, as i have not AB'd my gear with/without it, but bought one through a recommendation. (And 99% of touring musicians use one) I've just read up, and Furman's also protect against "AC events such as surges, spikes, lightning and high voltage." I'm assuming the higher end ones will do the same as the cheaper ones, but more efficiently. Also features will be slightly better. I.E. My Furmans Rack light is LED, cheaper ones use Bulbs which quite often Blow and get hot. Hope this helps.
Can someone explain a little more about what power conditioners do? I've seen them around and always been curious since obviously power's something that's always worth making sure you have right. Do they purely just even out the power or do they provide various safety features too? Does the more even power actually give a difference to sound or is it along the lines of having a gold speaker lead (i.e. theoretically yes, but not audibly different)? What's the difference between the cheaper ones and the more expensive ones?
22. As a user of a power conditioner, i thought i'd jump in and help. I use mine for powering my "big-rig" rack with my fx, wireless and tuner. I also power my amp when using this rack too. I would definately recommend them to anyone with a rack, or a large amount of gear needing power. The added functions can include rack illumination (front and rear), Surge/Spike Protection, Voltage Metering and Voltage Control (i.e. If you're playing in a country with a different voltage, it will automatically supply your gear with the correct voltage) You've got a few options... Budget - Phonic PPC9000E - Phonic @ Thomann.de Intermediate - Samson Powerbrite PB10 - Samson @ Thomann.de Pro - Furman PL Plus E - Furman PL-Plus CE - Furman @ Thomann.de Link to all Power Conditioners at Thomann.de I have only listed Thomann above as they have the largest stock, as well as there own branded units starting from £46. I have had experience with all 3 of the ones i listed, but there are plenty on the market. Hope this helps.
You've beat me to this one as I meant to bring this topic up myself. The topic of high end expensive sound systems came up the other night and a buddy mentioned that some people use mains purifiers for their systems. Apparently it does even out the fluctuations of the mains power supply, producing a better sound. Never heard of it being used for the kind of bass amps we use, but I did wonder if it would be worth trying out. I did read on another thread that someone protected their rig with an RCD and surge protected four way blocks, but that's a bit off the op's topic really. Watching with interest T
23. My guitarist might be interested. Can we get a pic of the Custom Shop Neckplate.
Hi! Fender Strat in brown, Everything plays fine and looks lovely, although there is a tiny bit of wear on the bottom of the guitar (unfortunately none of the pictures illustrate this), I am selling this for someone else, so I don't know too much about it or have any more pictures other than the ones below. T'was bought for £650 i believe, so i am looking for about 475. Any interest?
24. BUMP - Will accept trade/swap against desktop recording units or Line 6 Bass PODs.
 25. Go OBBM! It looks like Pete Cornish just chucks loads of heat-shrink over his connectors to extend the life of the cable. He still only uses Neutrik and Switchcraft connectors which you can buy for a few quid. Add that and a load of technical jargon and you have a very over priced guitar lead. If on a budget buy the same connectors and cable and have a go yourself. With that in mind, alot can be said for personal technical ability and quality control. So if in doubt, go OBBM! I know i would if my Monster Cables ever died...
