3.
For every bass player here on Basschat (who therefore knows the truth about The Bass Cellar) there's another 50 or 100 who have never heard of Basschat and who assume that The Bass Cellar in Denmark Street is absolutely THE place to buy their gear.
and therein lies the tragedy
4. ...but people must be undeterred and buying here otherwise they'd be long closed - rent can't be cheap

Compressor

cheers guys - yep wud concur with that, I don't see it as an effect as such - but may be of use to me

Compressor

cheers guys - loz, that's my impression certainly of the pay offs of compression pedals - my thoughts about them focus mainly around the sound out on the other side, ie. from the audience - will any eq-ing from the sound guy, via a PA, negate the compressor's effectiveness?

Compressor

Not your typical pedal I know, but just curious to here from others - I don't use one but have considered it - my question though is how much the compression ped is audible or how much influence it will exert on my sound once I'm DI'd and coming through PA -
8. the fender history book is ace - lots of pretty pictures to induce GAS - no bass related pressies for me, but some new Docs
9. Somehow I Imagine Santa playing one of these..
10. Simples: what kind of bass does Santa play?
11.
I agree with the MIA Jazz problems. Either the UK have had a poor batch or the new qc is now failing! Same with Laklands...damn annoying. I still want a Jazz but I'm giving up.
still not persuaded by the Roadworn jazz Gareth?
12.
I'd say you've achieved the mood you are after. If I were to offer constructive criticism, I would prefer to hear the melody unharmonised and perhaps in a higher register; in my opinion, the bass chords sound quite cumbersome and are not really in keeping with the effect you are trying to achieve. Jennifer
thanks Jennifer, will experiment with some higher register
13. 23 views and no comments - miserable lot
14. love my sandberg jm4 - blonde with tort pickguard - our guitarist saw it and said he wanted to be a bass player!! ok, so it has great looks, no doubt, AND playability, but the Delano pick ups just seem to lack something - can't put my finger on it
15. I've uploaded a track I recorded on my Nash jazz - all the percussive elements are from the open strings and the rest as is. I plugged direct into a Cakewalk interface and played it clean with no effects directly on the bass itself, apart from eq etc It's a dreamscape for a world that seems to move far too fast. PLEASE USE HEADPHONES, or at least don't play direct from laptop speakers, if you please. Any feedback welcome 'Darker' - http://soundcloud.com/speed-of-a-life
16. good work mate - the production sounds spot on, good mix - the vocals feel perhaps weakest, they sound a bit dry and don't have a lot of tone somehow, but that's just preference and I really am NOT a producer so feel free to ignore me!! I'd love to hear a bit about the set up of the recordings - ie. did you get loan of a studio? How did you capture the drum tracks, and which track did you lay down first? Also what software you used.. Nice work
17. going back to a post I wrote earlier about effects - I think about getting a compression pedal from time to time, but I'm wondering how much of it will be effective through the PA/off stage mix? Will it really just benefit my onstage sound?
18. none for me - could never find an overdrive that sounded good - but prefer clean sound anyway - i dabble with the idea of using a compression pedal now and then -
19.
Advertising.
yep - and now I'm going to have a quick look in For Sale before bed!
20. yeah I can appreciate this - i have a Nash jazz and a Sandberg JM4 which play beautifully, but the other day I dragged out my 1981 Ibanez Blazer and the tone, and the feel is everything I would ever need, it's my definition of the bass sound 'in my head' it's the sound I think a bass should have - so why have I not remained faithful to it and instead allowed myself to be seduced by other basses?
21. I always look forward to the gigs cos right now they're pretty few and far between with LIFE getting in the way maybe your drummer's bored - you say 50-60 gigs a year, that's putting in some trucking time AND you've been doing it since you were 16!!
22. gotcha - Big bump. Sandbergs = great basses
23. that seems a hell of a depreciation, did you buy it from new?
