1.
Give Colin Fulton a call - he's on the luthier list on here. He used to be a G&L dealer, and I remember him talking about doing jobs like this (I took over the shop he had in Ipswich). He's not near to you but can probably make a good assesment by phone and then he's only a courier away.
thanks yep, will look him up
2. yep that's about right, it definitely feels like it's come free from the fixing at the bottom end - bummer
3. Have a 1983 G&L SB2 and the truss rod seems to have stopped working - it just turns and turns with no effect on the neck - trouble with this being, there is no skunk stripe, no entry at the bottom end, and the neck seems to be all one piece so no taking off fretboard - getting at the truss rod seems all but impossible - anyone got any ideas on what this might cost as repair in the hands of a good luthier? Or even if it's worth it? The body is sound and the pick ups VERY special - new neck?? My worry is that any repair work on the truss might cost more or at least as much as the bass is worth? Thanks for any info
4. hey thanks for that - isn't it funny, but I got a feeling about that place, don't know what it was, some sort intuition, but I had worried vibes about the venue..such a shame to read about that sound guy
5. ...had a chance to gig at Babalou and we couldn't make it work - how's the set up there?
6. who is the girl from MIA then? good to see the two Cov boys adding some class, as always
7.
I tried the RW through an Ashdown 15", I wouldn't expect it to sound much better than my Fender Bassman TV 12 or Genz-Benz shuttle 3. I need to try it through these but they didn't have anything like them in the store.
you wouldn't or would expect it to sound better?
8. i've got a RW jazz, and I think it's the last bit you said - with a good rig these things really come alive - they sound good anyway and play easily, but through my Bassman it's a sweet sound -
9.
Any time dude.
john, you're such an attention seeker. Okay, what do you want to talk about...
10. Hum. I'd expect some 'feedback' on that Daz
11. yep i also struggled to hear his bass, thought it might be the new TV, but clearly not. loved the black keys btw, BUT, and odd to say it, didn't like the addition of bass and keys, their sound on first two albums is mind blowing with just guitar and drums. Assuming it's the idea that their sound has to develop, but i liked it just the way it was thanks very much
12. wondering how much it's worth, if it's the original one he used, and if any one in the audience is daft enough to make a swipe for it!!
13. ah that's a bugger, but sort of what I suspected. Hmm - thanks
14. Hi all been reading up on this, but can't quite establish for myself, does this store/save the loops you create so you can back to them? cheers
15. I've been doodling with a side project and rehearsing with just a guitarist! That's interesting.
16. HORMONES
17. good stuff and power to your elbow....or fingers
18. they're obviously the equivalent of notches on the bedpost - this was a ROCK GOD'S bass clearly
19. here's the 335, just to compound the misery I KNOW it has too many strings, but look at the way the thru neck meets the body, it's sublime
20.
I hate these threads because they always remind me of my regret in selling these two Les Paul basses. I had packed in playing around 1980 and these had been in the loft for a while. One of my nephews talked me into selling them to his mate. The worse thing was, I was dabbling with CB radio at the time and put the cash into this and within a few weeks my head was cabbaged with the muppets on the air. I still have the EB3 although in pieces at the mo' awaiting another refin.
lovely retro photo tho
21. ...what bass got away in some rash made impulsive idiotic decision? Okay, well I'm slightly bucking my own thread cos my deepest regret for the one I let get away is actually trading my 1987 Gibson 335 for a 1973 Gibson EB0 bass. It was the week after I'd lost my mum so I'm sure I was scattered brained anyway, but I got driven by some mad urge to possess the EB0 (which is now long gone in a trade for something else that is also now long gone!!), and I put the 335 in the car and drove two hours to do the deal. There's not a week I don't think about that 335 and how STUPID I was!!!!!!!!! It was a thing of beauty. Anyone else?
22. +1 to this
23. thanks to everyone
24. I got the feeling from things I've read that Nordstrands are a little more modern sounding??
