Actress and Bishop, Birmingham on Saturday 11th - soundchecked at 6.30 not on till 11.00 - moody sound man, 20 miles to nip back home, but gear all at venue so sat around in bowels of the pub, people spotted, felt ill...not great prep. BUT, great gig - crowd grew throughout and we played our best for some time.. Often wish could be like a tennis player and prepare the same methodical way for every gig, but there is no magic formula!!
Hello all, I need some space and as I have not played this in a while it will have be the first to go. Ibanez Blazer. Made in May 1982. Condition is rough, cosmetically, but easily playable and sounds great. The neck needs some attention to straighten it out. Plenty of character (ie dings, varnish worn through etc!). The flight case is up for sale too here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=101939 Check out the pics and any questions welcome.
Can you describe a bit more how the neck is - how un-straight is it!

Recommend a quality Jazz bass that nails the 60s tone
Did you keep the pickups stock? How does it compare to the NASH?
yep stock pick ups on the RW The Nash is a totally different sound - bigger output - they're Di Marzio pups that, to my ears, are throatier and grainier, but really clear, they respond to nuances that I haven't detected as much with the RW - But the RW played with a pick and some drive delivers a great throaty sound - but also gets syrupy fingerstyle and tone rolled off - Essentially, the RW is VERY playable - it must be cos I can play it BUT I'd say the Nash is the better of the two...just -
there must be a whole load of things you can do to treat your voice tho - reverb's always a good start - a la Thom Yorke - brings vocals to life - The Strokes put a lot of their early vocals through a guitar amp to get that distorted sound - so maybe think of that, don't be put off by the 'natural' sound of your voice if you don't like it as such...

i'd vouch for the RW jazz - recorded some stuff a few weeks back through my Bassman 135, and all sounded old school as old school - gr8 guitars -
So who talks to you when you get off stage?

one guy tonight asking about the G&L I was playing - and I was the one rattling on, for some inane reason, adrenaline still flowing after a full on gig, I started boring him with the incarnation of G&L and how Leo created his 'best guitars ever' until I noticed the guy was glazing over!! and had to berate two friends, girls, who DIDN'T come up to the stage and go 'wow' and flutter their eyes even tho they said they wanted to!! -
dude i really like this - was on the verge of downloading a track earlier and I got interrupted - going off to do it now - good work

hey stacker did u have to tweak much to the truss at all, cos the stock Nash strings are 45-109 aren't they, and I'm thinking of using some TI's which i think are 40-95..
-
but aren't they the wrong way round?

Been a BC member since June 09 and decided this morning to make my first excursion into the Double Bass section - what's all that about then?

not surprised at all by John's goodwill in immediate refund - always been a good guy to deal with sorry for the damage - I had a similar thing with sending a bass to Netherlands - the case was cracked in transit, but got refund for cost of the case within 28 days as stipulated on the courier's terms and conditions

yeah well just to add to your knowledge of the J - I have a Nash jazz and am blown away by the build quality - it's hard to find any faults on it - okay it's a jazz not a P but the projection of the sound is amazing as is the sustain, and I've no reason to doubt that a P neck will feel just as solid and perfectly set up as the Jazz one does the relic thing is pretty well handled I reckon - not sure what the sell on price of these will be tho as they're quite top end from new, altho hoping GAS doesn't take me down any avenues where the Nash gets sold anyway. (yeah right )

thanks for all this guys - not in the position of our own sound tech so kind of used to this approach, but wanted to get a sense really of just how much colour my amp settings had on the proceedings - i guess it's really in recording where one can shape the sound more to absolute preference..or in gigs where it's just the backline???
-
This frustrates me so much because I'm always on the stage and not out front..BUT got a gig this Saturday and will use my LMK11 through a 4x10 Bergantino, and give the LMK my fave settings to best aid the sound I want from my jazz...So far so good. But then I get to thinking, and this is something I can't resolve, how much of the sound I'm happy with onstage will remain in essence from the LMK11 as the sound guy DI's me and my bass goes thro the PA to be heard out front? for example: if I boost the low mids and lessen the highs on the LMK11 does that translate to be heard out front thro the PA sound?? Ta

cheers - ok well I'll see how i get on - may end up having to re-do stuff but it's good for the learning eh? I feel if it doesn't work this time round, just by doing this attempt I'll get it better next Have a good week.
-
sorry, and then I'll stop bothering you !! if the wires aren't through the eyelets does that interrupt/lessen contact then?
-
nice assortment of clips guys - ta

do you mean it's wrong ie. soldering is crap and it won't work , or the positioning of stuff - you can't actually see as far as the jack on my photo, but all wires going to various points mimic this diagram, (apart from I took the ground to the tone pot instead of the jack socket) which is from Fender support on their website true, the cap looks dodgy but it is clear of the other lug, altho not very tidy
