2.
Slightly OT but after two sh*t gigs in a row and the difficulty in getting originals gigs I am not as upbeat about the whole band thing as usual (albeit I have lifted myself by a new bass arrival which I will enjoy playing this weekend) Exhibit 1: Schlepped down to Bognor on Saturday, the hottest day of the year (5 hour round trip in car) only for the fecking promoter to put us on first at 7.30pm so we played to a few members of the other bands ... and I had to wear the Sp*rs shirt for "Shirt of Hurt" to add insult to injury Exhibit 2: Then played The Gaff in Holloway Rd on Monday night at a better time (9.30ish) .... to a few members of other bands again and the long-suffering Mrs Clarky The root cause of all of this is sh*t promoters - for neither gig was there a flier and we didn't know until the day of each what our time slot was going to be, so we couldn't really push it hard to mates etc (giving up a Monday evening with no idea what time you are coming home is not a compelling proposition to many working friends). We have to beg, steal and borrow to get these gigs, as an originals punk band, and we are very professional about these things, always ensuring we are well-rehearsed beforehand and with the gear we are asked to bring. So why are the promoters so lackadaisical as surely its in their interest to get a good turnout? As a family man and one who works long hours, I should also add that I have to make a number of sacrifices to maintain this 'second life' as does my family - don't get me wrong, the sacrfices are well worth it when we play a good gig to an apppreicative auidence but too many gigs recently have followed the aforementioned pattern. Anyway, rant over and I will let you all get back on topic
theres too many peopecall thesels promoters and don't have a clue - no one thiks to advertise or push or PROMOTE, they just organise and announce, (often badly) but to promote something is a big difference - i work in the theatre biz (luvs) and you have to fight for your audience market to them and convince them they want it - why don't promoters put the same energy in, do the really think crowds will just surge through the door when there's ten other doors to choose from - these kind of promoters have no passion and only egos - btw, to OP, I hear you
3. does the SR5 have that same nasal quality of the 4?
4. ...not a Stingray, already got a 4 and the jury is forever out on it. I like em, but... so what else? never tried either sanberg or lakland, but have a hunch they're akin to the compressed Ray sound?
5. hey baron ta for the bump - more just scaling stuff down that being honest with myself i really don't need - I have this romantic idea of starting a love affair with just one bass - not sure I've found that one bass yet but that's my mission - as for elusive tone, I know what it sounds like, it's just inside my head
6. have a Am Std for sale in Basses for Sale section - olympic white - great vibe bass at £650

15. Okay so behold this amazing Orange amp at fantastic price - quality build, stunning looks and raw power. Kind of why it's going, as I'm seeking cleaner sounds. I bought it from Thumbo on BC- Serial number makes it Nov 07 - it has supreme old school sounds, thumping bass, dirty gain sounds and is built like a tank. It does 200 watts and offers 4ohm or 8ohm options. Four brand new power tubes (Gold Lion KT88s) - the power tubes it came with were dated back to 2002 and they gave up on me, but now all is cool and checked by amp tech. Pre-amps might need a change - (can include three new EHX 5751's which offer a little less gain in the ECC83 pre-amp positions. They are brand new and unused). Oh yeah, needs a new bulb on standby light. Bought it for £750 from Thumbo so not making anything beyond an extra fifty to mark the new tubes I've invested in. Payment by bank transfer or cash. Considering the weight I really think pick up suits, am in Coventry. Or willing to drive within 60 miles or so for hand over. 16. tried a shecter in PMT today - sort of telecaster lookalike, active, with the usual 3 band eq - played nice, BUT the telecaster body was a pig on the arm, no contours anywhere, just the slab, and pretty irritating neck dive - looked lovely though, one f-hole, thinline and sounded neat.
17.
Gaaahh! I use a pick!* Surely that doesn't mean... Agree about the 4x10/1x15 thing, though! *In the late 70s this was called a 'pleccie'.
so what's with the 4x10/1x15 thing - ? what are the objections?
18. ...hadn't given these guitars or this manufacturer much thought but was at a gig last night and the bass player using this had an awesome sound - rich, thick, creamy tone. Hmm
19. cheers Gareth - pretty unsure on this but i guess that's the beauty of a feeler (ooh er)
20. Bought this off Musicman20 who bought it from Clarky I believe. It is in superb nick, no issues to speak of. Lovely high end finish, silky smooth fingerboard and rounded edges, frets perfect. It's a beauty. Has a black pickguard for better punk promise, but comes with original tort p/guard. Comes with excellent hard case and all candy still bagged up. Pick ups are huge sounding, and can string through body or through bridge. There is a weblink below to the model. http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0190462755 These are in the region of £899 new and I paid Musicman20 £690 I think ?? 21.
Some great sounds there in the video...and all typically MM but it will take you ages to find them all and dial them in .... and that is without messing with the amp.. Sometimes it gets very confusing to have these sounds with so much variation on gigs.. I don't think you'll touch the amp for a good few months... or else you be chasing your tail for ever. You also might want to consider how those two big pups get in the way of your playing style...??
yeah that's a pretty fair point - i had a whirl on a G&L a while back and was bedazzled by the pup/selector options
