I went to see Paramore and hated the sound...
Jigster replied to Jigster's topic in General Discussion
i suppose I came away thinking, (had plenty of time to think btw cos took 90 mins to get out of car park) and i guess it's easy to say for me cos I won't play ever anywhere that big, but it feels like the ultimate compromise for a musician: sacrifice tone for scale and audience and whatever else playing huge venues gives you..oh yeah, cash. -
had the fortune (or mis) to take my son to see Paramore at National Indoor Arena last night in Brum - ok, so they're not a bad band, if that's yr thing, but sitting there I just felt so let down with the sound - what is the point of a venue that big that all tone is lost, both guitars and bass were a generic mawl and the kick drum so overmic'd that it overpowered the bass..As for tone, i personally, and others on here I know dedicate our waking hours to the searching for the holy grail of tone, and I'm sure find it in a rich variety of places and venues, but somewhere like the NIA please tell me: what's the point? - just hoping my band never makes it so big we have to play a hole like that to thousands of screaming teenagers :lol

..have seen one of these for sale - nice looker, but with EMG replacement p/ups - haven't had chance to play it yet, but anyone with any thoughts on what EMG's offer? More thump I'm guessing, but any experiences of EMG's etc appreciated and how they might perform within a P body.. Ta

no one's mentioned Rays yet - roll up the bass on the EQ and that gets purty thuddy

Hi, don't know if this is doable on a forum - and I am planning a visit to an amp tech VERY soon - but last night my Orange head farted out - there was some smoke drifting out the top grill and I've checked the output valve fuses and they are both well blown - of course without being able to see it it's difficult - but I'm worrying that the smoke means more than just the valves, BUT the fact that the fuses have gone in the way they should when a valve pots out makes me hopeful that this is just all it is?? Any thoughts appreciated. Ta

have put a set of EB flats on and the G is def brighter but also moe balanced in relation to the D as they play off each other..hmm. The EBs are a brighter string than the La Bellas without doubt but the articulation just seems so much better..

guys this is deprressing! Love my Ray but not sure it's the answer to my dweams or that I can accept that there is this G fault I have to live with! - the sweet trebs are what I love most about bass playing!! Gonna take off the Labellas currently on there later tonight and put some EB's on and see what that does

This was a thread on the EB Forum but can't find it again now - but I was browsing some time ago and read how some players were saying the G on their Ray's didn't seem to 'ring', there was talk of pick up height at the G, string tensions, string choice, set ups, etc..But I wanted to raise this here, as I'm feeling the same way, the G just doesn't resonate in the same way as the others strings - even acoustically (I think) has anyone had similar issues..? Mine's a 2008 single pick up 4 string - excellent cond so shouldn't be any playing issues as such.. Ta

sorry, was meaning split coil - not single (altho think v early P's had single ??) Anyways up...
-
Been enjoying a recently acquired Orange head - all valve etc - and noticed how the P bass emits so much more hum - of course single coils are noisy buggers, but it's more noticable on the valve than solid state amps I've used before.. Any thoughts on this, ie.might it be about cavity shielding (there is none in the one I'm using)? the nature of valve amps interacting with single coils etc..? And how much might this transmit to 'tape' if I chose to record with this rig..?? Ta

Great amp! Amazed there's no takers on this - Genz gear is really top notch, I just happen to want to go back to head and and cab. Gigged probly 5 times max. Any head for trade has to be compatible with my 4ohm cab - pref 300watts upward.. This combo has v gritty tube gain (12AX7), or the superb transparency of the FET gain, or the ability to mix them together - and equally impressive bottom end - rattles the house. It's 425 watts into 4 ohm, so get all 425watts from one box. Has very solid carrying handles at the sides, and casters on the back so can pull along. Dimensions:28 1/4” H x 21 1/4” W x 16 1/2” D " Couldn't find any reviews on the 2x10, but there is a review of the 1x15 model here www.genzbenz.com/?fa=reviews&art=415 - which of course isn't the same re.speakers, but is essentially about the same amp and useful enough to appreciate the reviewer's recognition of the quality of this model. Can't emphasise enough how it really is in gr8 condition. If it was to be a sale, I would be looking for £450 which is a fab price for a combo of this quality. Prefer collection, or willing to meet half way or thereabouts. Am in Coventry. Cheers [attachment=36973:IMG_5429.jpg] [attachment=36974:IMG_5430.JPG]
