1. Looking forward to this gig on the 31st May. We are supporting two most excellent bands, in Codes In The Clouds, and AK-DK. We've just recorded our debut album, which is sprinkled with some very nice synth and keyboard parts and the said player has just up and left! So we shall be a three piece for this and future gigs, but really looking forward to how we re-interpret our songs and of course, write some new stuff sans synth and keys.
2.
Nice bass..the G and the D-string on the headstock are in a funny position though...
Yes, aren't they wound the wrong way around the peg?
3. Yeah, ugly but an alluring beauty all at the same time. Thanks for sharing.
4. You know the rules Nige - that Melody Maker doesn't exist without pictures Nuff said
5.
I feel for you. Many years ago I played the Ashton Court Festival in Bristol. Got up to play, checked tuning - no sound from amp. Somehow I managed to avoid panicking and started logically going through everything - stroke of luck, it was the first thing I checked - opened 3-pin plug, loose wire, quickly fixed and was back in business about two seconds before we started the first number. So easily could have been a disaster. The moral of this tale - always carry a screwdriver (at the very least) in your gig bag.
...AND, always carry, (at the very least), in your gig bag, your reading glasses so you can actually SEE the wires
6. yep, stuff goes down - and you live to gig again
7. For any post rockers and lovers of experimental, instrumental music, we are playing this gig on the 31st May, at The Water Rats on Grays Inn Road, in Londoninium. Details here: https://www.facebook...84907065016779/
8. Hi all, our debut album, This State Is Conscious, is now available here on Bandcamp, and all other digital outlets. http://thoseamongstusarewolves.bandcamp.com
9.
Sounds like you need a new jack socket or perhaps a wonderful new complete wiring kit?
- nice Thanks guys.
10. Hi all - when I plug into the input socket I'm getting loads of noise and a loud horrible hum. It's like there's plenty of feed in there, but there's no seeming connection to the strings, I pluck them and the hum just overrides everything. - it's like if you have your a lead in your amp, and run your finger over it at the plug end. I took the plate off and I found a wee bit of corroded metal in the hole, which looks like it's off the input jack - it's unearthly crackling hum? Any thoughts? Many thanks
11. Yup. I guess, despite amazing advances in amp tech and solid state voicing, it's still the go to combination - I'd like to have both the heft and the cash for a classic Ampeg valve stack
12. The guy in this vid is playing the Gretsch Electromatic range - whatever you think of his sound, (ie. why does he want it to sound like a guitar!!) these guys, ROYAL BLOOD, are doing alright for themselves, playing Glasto, SXSW, this year and more, I believe. From what I can see on their other vids, this bass range is his main squeeze. Interesting to see the 'budget bass' getting some high profile exposure. 13. Any thoughts what the guy is using for his sound - it feels pretty clean to me, which is what I like most, but also that tone, feels compressed, understated, resonant but not pushed? Perhaps it's just the lovely interaction of the valves from his Marshall stack? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zDgE6Ttf-c
14. I have no doubts you'll find something that gets you excited pretty soon Nige - and remember, Coventry loves ya! Chris

18.
Try a Westone Thunder fretless... cheap as chips, does the job
Yep, just got one of these from this parish - plays lovely and I suspect, when I get into rehearsals, will have plenty of presence.
19. Has anyone tried one of these - any good as a practice amp for home use ? Thanks for any info.
20. Aaagh - just ordered a new set today! Not sure if I can cancel it. I'll look into and get back if that's okay.
21. This baby means I now have an incomplete set of Pyramid Gold flats - and they ain't cheap. For those of us, like me, who has never been to the core of a string's universe, this is how my E looks after my Ibanez Musician hit the deck last night. Stupid series of events, (tiredness/decision to play P not Ibanez so latter wasn't on the rack on stage/decision at last moment to not take my hard case but a second gig bag because of said tiredness/gig bag not properly zipped up/sound tech rushing us to clear the room of spare gear ... suddenly my Musician hits the deck, string pops out of the saddle, heart stops ... It really is a tank though, lost a screw from the bridge pick up, aside from that and the string no actual damage. I vow to be more thoughtful/careful from now on when moving my gear about.
