1. how heavy do u reckon it is? and wattage? Can anyone describe the classic trace sound - used one once at a reh studio but some time ago..
2. trades on this ? Fender Foto Flame MIJ mid 90's http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...nder+foto+flame
3. thanks for the feedback guys - i'd second that about the attack of the MM on the frets - actually have also noticed same when playing fingerstyle..(still making up my mind if MM sound is really for me tbh)
4. Hi all - posted this elsewhere and no one showed up, maybe wrong section.. Anyway have done a bit of reading up on this, but thght I'd ask here - anyone get that clicky string on fret sound? OF COURSE I am always working to improve technique but seem to have noticed for the first time (not before, but have just changed amps) and the touch of the string on the frets can be heard when I'm fretting - am considering things like the make of strings (currently fender f'wound stainless steel, 45-95), rolling back mids/trebs/highs etc, my playing style, as in not trying to fret too hard, altho I am a pick player generally and like that robust twangy woody sound my MM gives with a pick BUT more than any of that was wondering about the voicing of the new amp..do the 'voices' of an amp accentuate/hide these things finally, how much of this is heard anyway in a full rock band mix do people think? Ta for any thoughts
5. Hi all - have done a bit of reading up on this, but thght I'd ask here - anyone get that clicky string on fret sound? OF COURSE I am always working to improve technique but seem to have noticed for the first time (not before, but have just changed amps) and the touch of the string on the frets can be heard when I'm fretting - usually higher up the f'board the D and G strings - am considering things like the make of strings (currently fender f'wound stainless steel, 45-95) rolling back mids/trebs/highs etc my playing style, as in not trying to fret too hard, altho I am a pick player generally and like that robust twangy woody sound my MM gives with a pick also wondering about the voicing of the amp.. finally, without wanting to NOT resolve this through correction etc, how much of this is heard anyway in the mix do people think? Ta for any thoughts
6.
Hi, I am interesting
Loved this - nothing like a bit of self promotion!
7. thnx alex just didn't want to 'overdrive' it i guess by putting a hotter p/u into the hotter gain input
8. Is it poss/okay to use the passive input with an active bass and not mess anything up ? I only ask because the preamp on my combo, like a lot of amps, has a higher gain/input impredence on the passive option than on the active option (which is lower gain tailored to active pups etc, okay I get that) - BUT, playing my MM through the passive input results in more break up when the gain control is engaged that through the active input from which the drive/break up is less tangible - This might be v simple answer, but like Chris Tarrant says, you either know the answer or you don't.
9. yep cheers john - was a well co-ordinated operation and nice to meet you
10. ta, which is sort of what I thought - what ways are there around this ie. in averting the generic sound of the pa and letting the tone of your amp through? I guess I'm asking, does a PA as a rule totally blend out the tone of an amp? And so what ways are there to approach this: a good sound man helps for one, but it seems, certainly at the level I'm gigging at right now, a guitarist has every opportunity to take care of their sound, (cab mic'd etc) but the bass has to lump it with a PA generated sound you're never totally sure of, which is cared for by a differing range of sound men - Some that are bothered Others that aren't.
11. Hi can anyone tell me if an amp is di'd with pre EQ setting, does that flatten out any tone shaping twiddling I have done - or does it purely relate to the eq - ta
12. cud u use this fr guitar?
13. Hi all Selling my Fender P - MIJ serial number S010809 (which I believe dates it to mid 90's) at £350 Great player, real nice P type thud, but also punchy mids, currently strung with flatwounds. Don't know about previous owners but I've had it for 2 years or so, it's in good nick. I think the Foto Flame range was a short burst they created so they're not your generic Fender P. Frets are nice, and general cool/vibey appearance, body has some nicks and scrapes as you'd expect from 13 years, but no dents or gouging etc... It's a greeny dark yellowy sort of colour which the camera sort of captures. Really prefer pick up on this, or meet you somewhere within reason. Am in Coventry. Thanks for reading. 14. very interested in this should the on hold fall through.
15. are the cab and amp same ohmage or different? like the sound of the barefaced
16. when people talk about flat settings, is that, for clarity's sake, setting to the middle of the dial, like at twelve o'clock or something, or using a stingray, setting to the indent mark on the knobs etc..??
17. thanks to all for the feedback so far - have decided not go with this as it happens - fell in love with the idea of the valves, but not sure it should be these valves in particular
18. bump - price drop -
19. yeah I was re-reading about the sterling it says its electronics are 'hot rodded' - do u know what that actually means and does reg stingray have the same?
20. just on the string gauge thing sir - i play a whole step down from standard tuning, so if I bought an MM I'd need a heavier gauge than the standard gauge they are set up with, is that right ?
21. ...in my humble opinion, altho there was a glowing report posted about the Sterling Ray 34 by outtoplaybass (i think) who prob knows far more than I ever will, I tried both of these this morning and you can just feel the difference in quality and tone with the Ernie Ball - feel, playability, so superior. (Well about £400 superior as that's pretty much the price differential!!) - altho I believe the Sterling has the same parts as the Ernie (?) is set up in the US and made in Indonesia they are two VERY different guitars..
22.
I owned one for a few months and had it restored/ covering and capacitors. Very loud amp but also VERY bright, had to have the bass on full and treble on 0 to get a usable tone.
were u able to counteract this by rolling treble back on your bass?
