Who is your most inspirational bassist?
bottomfeed replied to Chris2202's topic in General Discussion
Early Lemmy (Hawkwind - Space Ritual) Mike Howlett (Gong) Philippe Bussonnet (Magma) Percy Jones Norman Watt Roy Pino Palladino Meshell Ndegeocello many others....but these stick out! -
Different forum, some very helpful members, very different atmostphere, but worth checking out. I enjoy both Finnbass and Basschat - the pace of finnbass is a lot slower though so I tend to spend more time browsing on here due to my short attention span
.... +1, me too!
Hi her's my first custom bass. It has no name. I made it because I liked the shape of the Mouradian CS74 and couldn't find one to buy.
Nice Hair & Pants!.....

Don't think I've done an update here, since the GK & Aggies....

Hmm .... This game of getting the right cabs is so subjective... The only way to really do it, in my opinion, is to try out as much stuff as possible... with a familiar bass & head etc.. preferably live with a band, to really get the feel of what character punches through .... although the reality is this is very difficult to do... My experience of the Berg AE112's is that the tweeters were the most 'musical' I have ever used.... crisp & bright but blending well with the speaker... the cabs made a very articulate 'hi-fi' sound .... but it lacked something for me... a little too clinical & a bit souless. The Aggie GS112's suit me better... warmer, fatter.... work well in a live situation, with a very loud drummer!.... I've stuck with them. Compared to the Bergs, I reckon I've sacrificed a little in the mid-range department.... Much prefer the overall sound though. Only once tried some Epi cabs (4x10 + 1x15) at a gig ... used my head... didn't like them.. but I can't put my finger on why... guitarist in the band said, 'you sound all weak arsed through those, I can't feel the bass properly....' make of that what you will! I reckon I will buy two 2x10's cabs at some point (maybe SWR golights?) for tonal variety....but I'm keeping the Aggies, there's something special about them. It's all just my personal opinion though!

who remembers Raw Stylus and Driza Bone?
bottomfeed replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
The Raw Stylus version of 'Use me' is the best! -
Ibanez PD-7. About £60ish I think. Great pedal.
Yeah, a very versatile pedal... distortion, overdrive & even clean boost, which I find really useful... Bit noisy though... defo a keeper for me... For a singing sweet tone, my preference is an old modded colorsound tonebender I used to own ..a very 'musical' fuzz After experimenting with some modern options... Blowtorch etc, I'm gunna invest in a colorsound bass fuzz... to reclaim that sound I had a long while back... it's all very personal this game though.... my advice would be to try out as much as possible..... It's easier to find what you don't like!

what tune/band that got you into bass ?
bottomfeed replied to phil.i.stein's topic in General Discussion
....well, 'Meet me on the corner' by Lindisfarne .. suprisingly!..., great bass line! ... I was 11 at the time! I heard the bass above all other instruments.. then at 12, I got into Hawkwind... Lemmy on 'Space Ritual' & Gong - the album 'You' in the trilogy..... mike howlett really got my bass bone moving!..... & the list from there whould be endless & ever growing! -
I managed to get one from Ebay, new for £26 + £8 postage....Just happened to log on at the right time & make a bid... (the seller was cashandcarry2009 but it appears to be a one off thing) Well chuffed with it

Bought an Aphex Xciter of Phil recently.. the deal went very smoothly, it arrived when expected, & was as described... a very easy guy to deal with...
-
Ha!... good ending! I'm assuming that you still went for the SWR stuff? If so, how do the Golight cabs compare to the old Goliath & Bertha ones? ...much difference in sound?
-
A great amp! Should do the job perfectly.... I have the 1001RB myself.... & have used the 700 in the past... didn't really notice any real difference in tone... the 1001 just has more headroom.. but both have plenty of power. The cab in that Thomann deal is well suited ....at 8 ohms you will get about 460Watts out of it, if you added another 8 ohm cab (making a total of 4 ohms) it can deliver up to 700Watts. Using a GK cab means you can utilise the Bi-amping feature... check out about it here: GK RB1001/700 manual I use my head with Aguilar cabs, sound fat & articulate to me ...lovely! Check the GK website to see if there are any dealers near you.....

I've been using the custom moulded plugs for the last 10 years... infact I'm trying to clear a bit of hard wax in one ear before getting new moulds made... I find them much less isolating than the 'one size fits all' ER20's etc They cost about £170 but are well worth it...ER15 moulded plugs
I got an email from 'The Bass Centre' on December 12 saying they had sent my Markbass Compressore, and then another on December 22 asking me what I thought of it. But I still haven't received it. Did it also get lost in the post or did the snow delay everything badly. I live in Holland and I'm an optimist. Hope your pedal turns up. Phil.
Well..... the replacement 'free' pedal hasn't shown up either... is it the snow?... Xmas?... whatever.... it's really frustrating... I genuinely wanted to give that pedal a go.... At least I got the refund, so I can go ahead & get a colorsound bass fuzz, as I had originally planned all those months ago! I will message him again, one more time though.... Hope your compressore appears eventually!
-
Well here's the update... Pedal didn't show up.. So I asked him for a refund, which he did immediately.. along with this message "hey, Ok I have given you a refund through paypal. I will still send another pedal as I have had personal post since I sent your pedal so I can only assume it was lost in post. Obviously this pedal is free, it's the least I can do after this palaver. I sent it uninsured and unregistered so it's totally my fault. lesson learnt. Anyway I hope that when you do finally recieve a pedal you like it and will comeback to sixties in the future as I have some more pedals planned for next year. Again I can't tell you how sorry I am for the mess, especially around christmas that's the last thing you need. wes" ... to be continued
