The DB112's certainly have rear ports. I take it you've considered and dismissed the Tech Soundsystems 1x12's on this forum... certainly can't get any more portable than those!
...no, not dismissed.... never tried!... & Scotland's a long way to go!... if I could try some closer to home I'd be up for it.... I'm finding the mighty tinternet is great for research & cheap deals ..as long as you know what you want... I only seem to know what I don't want at the moment! & I can't afford to buy blind.. Them bergs are very good.. & I spent the afternoon with Mark at Bass Direct trying all of the AE's against what I had before... & the 112's suited me best...(wish I'd tried the non-neo ones too, but I was on a 'lightweight' pilgrimage at the time & was blinkered!) I'm not great with the 'science' of it all but I've become convinced that the rear ports are causing me the trouble, even if it is non-directional!... somehow, with front porting, I can be louder & therefore hear myself better & a certain drummer I work with lots, isn't complaining that my bottom end is killing his kick drum!.... !?!... -
Was it the Aggie GS or DB cabs that you tried?
it was the GS, a 2x10 + 2x12....too heavy & bulky for my needs really though!.....but a nice sound & I could be loud enough for me too hear it well, without my drummer complaining! (there's gotta be something in this rear or front facing ports thing....) ....is it true the DB's have rear ports? I am hoping that the smaller GS speakers... like the 1x12's, impress me the same way..... it's got to be quite portable for me... up to say similar in bulkiness of 2 x SWR goliath Jr 2x10's weighing in at 55lbs each( ..which I'd like to try if I can find somewhere with 2 in stock!) .... but preferably lighter.... I've got 14 stairs up to my front door!...& it's a narrow passageway.... (ooh er misses!) -
I'd recommend EBS Neo's very highly Dave, if anything they sound pretty much the same as the Proline stuff, so if you ever wanted to you could pop down and try mine out .
Thanks for the offer Josh.... I'll bare it in mind.... Probably gunna do a lot of driving in the near future, Bass Merchant, Mansons etc.. Just waiting till the maximum amount of stock is in.... -
Have you compared the AE with the HT at all? I haven't heard them back to back but seem to remember the HT was more of a smoother all round sound to the AE?
...no, haven't tried the HT at all.... Kinda hoping I can stay lightweight .... but wondering if any neo stuff has what I'm after?... the Aguilar cabs I borrowed were pretty close & so were the SWR... but not very lightweight ... hopefully trying zoot, EBS & GK soon..... -
I thought your back was loving them Dave?
.... yeah my back is really loving them! but my ears are still wanting to hear something that I'm not getting..... not really sure what it is... (a little less hi-fi, perhaps?) but I was almost there when I borrowed some Aguilar cabs the other night!.... ... & my drummer doesn't want the rear porting! -

Well, I've been reluctant to do this..... but I'm going to let them go...Two of them.... They are fantastic cabs, but after gigging them over the summer, I think my 'sound' lies elsewhere.... They're just not the ones for me.... Almost brand new, pristine condition, complete with covers.... *NEW PRICE! >>>>>£650 the pair<<<<< Would prefer hassle free selling!... (pick up, or meet halfway kinda thing, if not too far....I'm based in Bristol) Actual pics to follow.... just want to test the water for now..... ....any interest? Here's those pics.... Two main bands... a funk/soul covers band: The Man from Funkle & an originals Rock band, where I can vent my spleen somewhat!.... Torn I'm involved in various other projects including this: Groove Planet & this: CeRbErUs I have been known to generally whore it about depping etc... (but these days not so much... )
I would love to actually talk to someone who had been at space ritual live.Hawkwind were the bollocks! Bass playing reached a certain peak in the 70s.
+1 to that!.... Space Ritual was the album that made me wanna pick up a bass!... (Lemmy at his best!) Saw them several times later ('Astounding Sounds' & 'Quark, Strangeness & charm' period......) But there was really only a brief window around the Space Ritual time in their long career, where all the ingredients were right.... I believe it was Roy Estrada & Dave Parlato doing the bass work on 'Zoot Allures' My favourite Zappa albums are 'Sheik Yerbouti', 'Live in New York' & the epic 'Joe's Garage'
Thanks Bottomfeed. I'm getting some very positive comments from our sound tech and fellow musos on my sound at the moment so starting to think I should be keeping this. I'm confused.
Well....Funny game this finding the right gear business!....... Some questions: What has brought you to thinking you want to get rid of?...... What were you using before?... What is the difference to you?.... What cabs are you using with it?

How often do you change your strings?
I prefer mine fried and find cheese and pickle a better flavour for adding.
bake in the oven, gas mark 5 for half an hour.... then serve immediately! -

another useless reply!.... roughly once a month for me... I'm quite a sweaty bar steward... & play often... When I was an 'angry young man' , I used to break a lot of strings!... E's mostly! Sometimes do the boiling thing (with a bit of salt &/or vinegar!) ...it gets the zing back but it never lasts as long as from new & they are a little more prone to breaking... -

Ommmmmm ... ah...wait a minute..... it's coming through now..... by the mystic power of profile viewing ... 14!? a mere bass playing foetus!... consider me shamed! -

Bristol's never been that good for music shops.... since Sound Control got their teeth in & blew the smaller places out the water... Electric Ladyland has been going for years in Old market if your looking for vintage instruments Mickelburgh's in Stokes Croft has a Warwick dealership (the Basement) & I guess it's worth checking out what Reverb (ex sound control) has to offer in it's clearance sale...
I doubt there are many that will be able to give a real world comparison of these cabs and most of us will probably extol the virtues of the cabs that we have
.... I'm liking me new Berg AE112's ....to my biased ears it covers "a great deep smooth sound but still with enough detail" perfectly!... & god... it's so nice not breaking out in a sweat carting them up & down me stairs on a hot gigging day!
Finally got some pictures of my rig that don't suck. I tend to use just the 2x10 for most gigs, just adding the 15 when I need some extra volume. I'm sure that the talk of phase cancellation etc is correct but I still like the sound I get from this set-up. I always DI the head into the PA so what the audience hears is dependant on that anyway.
Hi Folks, Just bought a Peavey T-Max head from Dave, better known around here as 'bottomfeed'. All in all, it was a completely hassle-free transaction; the amp's great and exactly as described, well packaged up and Dave's a really easy person to deal with.. So am happy to recommend him to fellow Basschatters when buying/selling gear on the Forum. But on top of all that, he somehow managed to get Parcelfarce to deliver the amp to me in 24 hrs instead of the 48 hr service I paid for, which was amazing! Thanks Dave! Nik
Well thank you kindly sir!.... Glad the T-Max arrived safely.... & all is well with it Parcel-Farce may have delivered the goods promptly ..... but their idea of an AM pick up was 8pm!!!
