1. 100% instrumental so thank you for the heads up. I was disappointed I didn't snare one before. I'm hoping it's playable enough, then i'm breaking out the bandsaw to do something about that headstock!
2.
I've got technology on my side. But it seems even then I'd have to sit around with a Thomann shopping basket open and ready to pounce to have any chance. I had sort of decided that I would go for a Deko R458 if one came up. It disappeared so quickly that even if I had pounced it would probably have been gone. The Deko 1975 bass(es?) have all sold out now. At least they stayed available for an hour or so.
I got one! Full report to follow when it arrives. I also have an AliExpress bass on the way too....oops!
3. Terrible photo of weird looking stack attached Truckie
4. Haha! You probably will. I just broke the cat flap playing it with the BG250! There's a good chance I'll be moving the OTB on though as if this cuts it with the BG250 then that makes my whole rig much slicker. Will see tomorrow when the OTB returns from the doctor!
5. Interesting. I rather like the Jazz (headstock is a bit munty but I think I could live with it) but that has to be one of the most poorly crafted sites I've stumbled across. Put some effort in guys, some of us do pay attention, you know!
6. Ashdown keep trying to do mini amps, I keep wanting to like them and yet I keep being disappointed when it comes to trying them. Will give this one a go though as I'm a sucker for a decent graphic EQ
7. I had a Wizard thumper in my ex-OldGit SX and that was a brute. Might be the way to go? They do come up second hand but there's a new company built from the ashes of Wizard too so I suspect they'll still make them.
8. Barefaced Super 15 in the house (thanks again Den!) and I cannot stop grinning! I've only been able to run it from my TC BG250 but so far I am hugely impressed and convinced I made the right choice. The weight is voodoo - how is it possible to pack two 15" drivers into a suitable enclosure and still be able to carry it one-handed into the house? Crazy. I had a compact on loan a while ago and whilst I wanted to like it, I was always convinced that two was the way to go - now I've basically got a pair in one box. I've tried so many different cab options and whilst I'm still HUGELY in the honeymoon period, I can't help but feel I've finally nailed it. My Orange Bass Terror comes back from repair tomorrow too. Hurrah! Cheers James
9. Hi all, *** SOLD Pending Payment to Keshav *** Recently acquired this in a trade from a lovely dude but am looking around for a sale to release some cash - I'd take a Jazz in PX but would need a wedge of cash my way! This is a rather tasty limited edition Fender USA Precision - I *think* the body is Ash based on the grain but I couldn't swear to it. Typical USA refinements, string through body, nice bridge, great tuners and the neck is LOVELY - some minor marks here and there (photoraphed) but plays and sounds GREAT, it's got some serious beef! Can post at £25, it comes with the Fender ABS case and is wearing a new set of Elixir Stainless rounds. Collection most welcome in Ledbury (Herefordshire) or Gloucester (Gloucestershire) Cheers, James
10. I've used Servisol for YEARS and never had any issues - I think it's like most things, if you bath in it, it's going to do some damage, it's a solvent after all! But for a one-off spray? GET IT IN THERE!
11. Walk, don't run away from the PF500!
12. Who mic's these days anyway? Roland kick trigger + TD module and we're done
13. Slightly drifting off topic but I cannot recommend the Evans EMAD batter head enough for those wondering about exploring removing the old pillow/duvet from their bass drums!
14. Marcus showed me round a couple of Dingwalls at Bass Direct and I was VERY impressed. Silly light but the tone was great! It's turned my head somewhat but I think I'll stay a Fender chap until budget allows (ha...when will that ever be)

2 x BG250's

It is, IMO the worst thing about the BG250 - if it had an extension cab out (and matching 1x15) then I'd still be using one. Instead and until my BH500 is repaired, my rig will be a BG250 (2x8) into my newly acquired (tomorrow, god willing) Barefaced cab!
16. I've always much preferred the sound with the hole (I drummed for years) and find that it makes mic'ing a breeze. I like the mic'd sound more too as you hear more of the beater 'click' as you're closer to the batter head. One issue with not having one can be a greater chance of feedback as the mic has to be out of the drum therefore greater chance of picking up what's coming back from the FoH or monitors. It's nothing a decent sound engineer can't get past but if you're tight on time...

2 x BG250's

I tried something similar using the DI out into a keyboard amp when I had a BG250 - it kinda worked but we experienced some slightly odd phase-cancelling kind of sounds, may have been the venue (or me!) but I didn't particularly enjoy the sound. What about selling it (argh!) and getting a BH500 and two cabs - there WAS a buy-one-get-one-free deal on the cabs if bought with the head, don't know if that's still going? The BH500 is a great head and with two of the 2x12s makes a very nice and still portable setup.
18. That's pretty cool - is the finish matte? That would look GREAT as long as not too yellow in real life
19. Tried cleaning it? Might just need a little Servisol?
20. Ditch the flats for some rounds...? A suggestion as I've never got on with flats, just too warm and thuddy for me.
21. It's not as bad as I expected it to look but very much not my sort of thing. Don't like how the neck through-ness disappears on the bottom because of the veneer top though but for a first effort it's not bad!
22. Yep, I've had that before - was suspicious but all worked out fine!
23. Go for one of the newer Yamahas, the AC series. If you're really lucky you can get an AC3 - there's no better plugged in tone in my opinion. The AC1 has a more conventional pickup/preamp but still sounds pretty good - better than the lower CPX models when plugged in.
24. No worries, I will see if I can grab some scales (and resist the temptation to stand on them myself) anyway!
25. You don't need a valve amp IMO. I'd go and try a few, but ANY new bass amp in your budget is more than capable of making a pleasing sound, the challenge will be finding something that really pushes your buttons. Personally-speaking, I'd look for a head and cab - more versatile and also more scope for experimentation. I'd try all the usual suspects but for £800 you should easily get something that'll do you proud. Cheers, James
