1.
One of the cardinal errors made by many members of this forum (myself included) is to put the acquisition of new equipment before doing anything about improving playing skills. You can buy a very good used bass indeed for £300 - you will have to become a top-drawer player to actually need anything that costs a lot more than that. And you can keep Mrs Bad Sign happy at the same time.
Get out.
2. I'd go with spending as much as you're comfortable with on an instrument - but if you can, get to a shop and try a few...it's not always the most expensive that you fall in love with! And no, c) is not an option at all.
3. Hi Paul, Annoyingly, I've no way of weighing it here (if you saw the size of me, you'd know why) but I seem to recall it being around 9lbs when listed on the BassDirect site - it certainly isn't a back-breaker and I wore it for three hours last night at a rehearsal and was perfectly comfortable. I can try and borrow some bathroom scales if you'd like? Just shout. Cheers, James
4. I very much believe that some combinations of bass and amp just don't work. I played with the MB Players School combo the other day and whilst I thought it was pretty neat, I'm a Jazz bass player and agree it didn't translate the 'classic' Jazz burble well. I put that down to my inability to tweak the EQ but sometimes it's more of a struggle than it needs to be!
5. Hi folks, Well, it looks like I'm about to be a Barefaced owner! So I can't have this cab sitting around. It's in lovely condition with Soft Cover (think it's a Roqsolid but not 100%) and has very little in the way of marks on it. Being GB it's a nice weight and the tone is great, VERY punchy but not a stupid size so easily fits in the back of my anonymous-looking euro-hatch! Collection from Ledbury in Herefordshire or Gloucester in Gloucestershire but I can meet half way up or down the M5 for petrol moneycash. £200 for a quick sale! Cheers, James
6. Thanks all - it wasn't how to turn off notifications for each post, as I know how to do that, it was more turning off the auto follow feature as I rarely remember to go in and switch them off! Thanks again, James
7. EDIT: No, scrub that - whilst I can see the basses on the splash page, selecting a category returns nothing. Guessing the site is b0rked.
8. But is there a way to turn off the automatic 'follow this topic'? I've had a poke around but unless I'm missing something, I can't find it. I sometimes comment on a thread but it's a throwaway and I'm not interested in getting the emails of further messages.... Cheers!
9.
Agree. I`m sure that his recent few years have affected him greatly, but his voice really didn`t have much presence at all, whereas his guitar was as spot-on as ever.
This. Wilko is a legend but I'd love to hear more of the stuff with RD - it worked, and so often these kind of collaborations don't!
10. It will depend on the volume of your band and if you have PA support? It's a good amp but it's not all that composed when pushed so at HIGH volumes it does get a little untidy - there's a limit to what those 10" speakers can cope with I suppose.
11. There's a good chance it's Donald. I've used those before and with the shape button in and a touch of bass cut, they've sounded fab right up to VERY loud volumes. All amps lose it a bit when they have the nuts revved off them...
12. Hi folks, Got these for sale, collection only as it's not worth my time finding a box and sorting all that out... 1). Vintage 'ray copy. Preamp broke so all controls apart from the volume are disconnected. Nice neck, actually sounds really nice - I think the pickup is a GFS unit. £60 2). J&D P copy. Great instrument - the neck is lovely and the weight is pretty good too. Action is good and sounds like a P should! Collection only from Ledbury in Herefordshire (or I can meet up for petrol ££)
13. We must have just missed each other! I was in today buying a jazz bass
14. You'll like the boost on the MAX then!
15. I've owned both, IMO the Max is louder but the Contour more punchy - that being said a lot will depend on the sound you like and my contour was a 2x10
16. I agree about the TC BG stuff - nowhere near enough high end. Odd. I can see the Hartke Bass Attack being the perfect tool to bring the zing!
17. Wait for the Max to arrive, open it carefully and then you could try it and use DSR to return if you don't think it stacks up well against the BAM?
18.
Did you indulge?
I did! Stone ME it's loud! Gives my GK head a run for it's money in terms of power. Lots of scope for EQ too - I'm very happy, and it's a bargain!
19. Nice! Now fit a black 'guard and you have my favourite colour combo on a P!
20. Superb description - I'm sold! http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=161532083331
21. The OLD Rumble 100 or 150 were great amps. The 'Shape' button was instant modern bass sound. Loved it. Haven't used the new but no reason to think they won't be good
22. A good 'Ray can cover ANY genre, no issues.
23. Neither are what I would call light weight though...or do I need to man up?
