1. Hi folks, This is my Mexican Jazz - it's been upgraded with GFS Hot Jazz Alnico pickups, shielding to the cavity and brass saddles. Oh and a fetching tortie scratchplate. Sounds ace, plays well and looks damn purty! Collection from Halifax or I can post at cost Cheers, James
2. I've owned only one AWFUL bass and that was an Epiphone EB-3 - I hated it the minute I picked it up, which raises the question why I bought it in the first place. I have no idea, literally none.
3. I'm more suspicious about user 'http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/pelevincat' - seems to have bought rather a lot? Perhaps it's just another happy customer!
4. It'll be on the back of the speaker magnet usually - you might even be able to see through the rear ports, if it has them?
5. 4x8" on hold - bump for the 15" - need it gawn peeps!
6. Wow, really? I ab'd the 550 at gig volumes against the Mag300 and the latter won by a country mile. Now wonder
7. It's about playing the odds I guess. Buying a £1k+ bass should do nothing if it doesn't reduce the odds of getting a stinker. At the really low end of the market, the risks of a lemon are higher but there's a real sense of satisfaction when you get a lot for not much money!
8. You know the one...the bass you paid buttons for but totally shames your other basses? Mine is this: an 'Oldfield' (who?) bass, called Mike. £40 from Gumtree and then £50 on replacement pickups and BOOM - it's bloody awesome. Needs a slight truss rod tweak at the moment but it's frankly astoundingly good for the cash and I wouldn't hesitate to gig it with no discernible difference in the punters' ears, I bet! And remember, pics or it didn't happen....!
9. Oh Ashdown, quoting peak power output? Tut tut.
10. Sold! Only recently acquired these and the sound is astonishing! However I've got some serious bills come in and I'm looking at ways of raising some extra cash. So, with regret: [s]Ashdown Mini ABM 4x8" (with upgraded 8" Celestions fitted by Matamp) and Roqsolid Cover. £175 plus post[/s] Ashdown Mini ABM 1x15" with very worn Ashdown cover. £125 plus post. OR OFFERS! Pics on request folks but all the gear is in nice condition, fully working and sounds stunning. Collection most welcome from Halifax, West Yorkshire! Cheers James
11. Be very careful - despite all the nostalgia and 'lawsuit era' reverie, I've seen both E series Jap and MIK strats with ply bodies. Whip off the covers and have a poke about before paying!
12. So, turns out Chris is a bit of a legend! Thanks mate for getting my lovely new amp to me in time for rehearsals! Sounded awesome, too!
13. I think it's a good idea to have a rig that you can customise depending on the venue - I'm doing the same and moving from a back-breaking combo to a head and two cab (big gig) / one cab (small gig) approach!
14. I'll be the one to say this, it took me a long while to get it: Bigger speakers does not equal more bass! If you're able to, have a listen to them - I really liked the BC212 cab, but it's NOT bass heavy so I don't think you'd find it overpowering. Two of them would match up nicely but as always, use your ears Cheers, James
15. Would that mean it could be rewired for 4 ohms?
