Yet more glowing feedback for Nik Top fella and an easy deal as usual with great comms. Safe journey mate!

Hi folks, Really miss my Overwater Jazz, so considering seeing if I can sell this to fund one of the ones currently for sale on the forum, but could consider other things too - hit me up with trades? Otherwise, £375 secures this bad-boy, good condition but gigged with some scratches as to be expected. Nice setup and not too heavy! Not going to be dropping the price on this as it's my main gigging bass Collection welcome or can post at cost - would recommend doing so in a hard case and I can add one for £50 (good quality ABS case) Cheers, James

Help: replacing the speaker in an Ashdown Mag 1x15 cab
Moos3h replied to Moos3h's topic in Amps and Cabs
You could indeed be right! I'm still convinced the gain is set fine - I get this same issue if I use an Ashdown ABM head and the VU meter is barely moving - the clank i hear though is at the start of the note, it's like the speaker shoots forward and hits its limit (I'm sure the terminology I'm using isn't helpful!) I'm very tempted to do a speaker upgrade anyway, because I can use the 15's elsewhere in our PA if it doesn't work out, so the money won't be wasted - the Deltalite is looking like the front-runner so far because I can save some weight too which will be nice - also, it seems that the response in the mids and highs are pretty good too (from reading reviews etc) so I can test out your theory about more highs. -

I ran a Peavey Tour 450 with a compact for two gigs and have to be honest, I didn't rate it. That said, I tried the same head with a Peavey 4x10 shortly after and didn't like the tones their either, so it may be a personal taste thing. Personally, one of the most annoying factors with the Peaveys are the stupid chrome knobs - you can't see what anything is set to in less than perfect light. Stoopid.

Help: replacing the speaker in an Ashdown Mag 1x15 cab
Moos3h replied to Moos3h's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks for that! The problem was that I deffo wasn't driving the input gain hard (5/10 with the pad switch in), all EQ at 12 o clock and master about 3 and the cabs were making the sound like they were bottoming out - not distortion but more of a 'clank' that wasn't string noise, for sure. The trouble was that this didn't mean I sounded that deep, I didn't - I was surprised by the lack of apparent low-end so I'm not sure (although ENTIRELY happy to be proven wrong!) that adding a 2x10 instead would help? Cheers for the advice, I shall keep an eye out for a cheap 2x10 though as perhaps upgrading the speaker in the 1x15 may just be too unpredictable? -
Hi folks, The last of my 'spare' basses for sale - the amazing Peavey Fury 4 (IV). It's an amazing bass as the action is low, the weight is low and the output is huge! Sounds fantastic and plays so easily you can forget its round your neck. Lovely sealed tuners, string through body and active EQ. The condition is good but with some marks here and there as you'd expect from a bass that has been gigged. The 'pan' pot is a little scratchy when moving but I'll try to get some switch cleaner in there which I'm sure will sort it. £120 + £10 postage anywhere in the mainland UK or you are welcome to collect! Cheers, James

Hi folks, Gigged my new rig last night: GK 500w amp 2 x Ashdown Mag 115 'deep' cabs It sounded good but I was very disappointed with how it handled the low end, a low E would result in the speakers bottoming out and a real loss of definition. Got through the gig fine but I just couldn't use all the power from the head as I have the impression the cabs just can't handle it . I'd like to replace the speakers and can afford something like: Eminence delta Eminence delta LF Eminence Deltalite But I can't run to the Basslite or Kappalite. Would these speakers do the job, do you think? Cheers James

I maybe don't have a very advanced ear for these things, but ANY amp should be able to get a good Rock and Pop sound out of it, shouldn't it? Certainly no-one has done the 'has someone farted?' face when I've played rock and pop in the covers bands I'm in and I've used Trace, Ashdown, Hartke, Peavey, GK and TC Electronic stuff in the past - I don't even fiddle from song to song! I think the adage 'try some and see' is gonna work best, as always!

Hi folks, Never used an outboard compressor before - its a pedal one. I have a Stringray-a-like bass (active) going into a GK head. Should the compressor go in front of the amp or in its effect loop? All I really want it to do is smooth the sound out a bit - nothing drastic. Cheers! James

Big sounding amps that are heavier than my car!
