Hi all, Well my Stingray lust has been well and truely sorted due to Theo's lovely OLP and I can't see me going back to Jazzes any time soon! This is my beautiful Squier Classic Vibe Jazz, the James Johnston one - I bought it only a month or so ago, and it's a lovely, lovely bass - an excellent example of the amazing work that Squier are doing with the Classic Vibes, simply awesome. It's pretty much as it left the shop and in excellent condition with only the most minor of surface scratches that most shops would totally ignore when selling something 'as new'. It had a full setup by Barrie at Gig Gear when I bought it and it plays superbly and sounds great, very punchy but with a nice warmth. Comes with shaped Fender ABS hard case. PRICE: Given the case and superb condition of the instrument, I think £265 is very very reasonable? POSTAGE: Really really really really would rather not, but if it's at your cost and risk, I'm happy to do it - be aware that there would be a small delay for me to source a box though! Postage would be about £20, any less and I'd refund you the difference. Don't forget that new year is going to get in the way too and I'm afraid that I do not post outside of the UK due to a very bad experience in the past. POSSIBLE MEETUP? I get about a bit, so could possibly meet up in the South of the country, try me! I'm based in Herts though and make a fine cup of tea, so you'd be welcome to pop over. PAYMENT: Cash please! That said, if having it posted I will accept Paypal providing you pay all the associated fees etc. PICS:

It's genuinely never, ever bothered me in the slightest - I gig often twice a week and rehearse once and don't have trouble. With a decent strap and reasonable technique, it's all pretty manageable and I've played some basses that felt like they were made of concrete

Also worth talking to the guy who runs www.guitars.co.uk as he (was) Leamington Spa-based and used to run Muzonet which offered advertising for tutors and stuff, I'm sure he'd still be well connected to the local tutor scene?

Hi Fella, Worth chucking an ad on www.lemonrock.com - we've had a lot of success recruiting from there. Cheers, James

Oh and one thing is really important and perhaps not been mentioned here: Don't be an arse. If you are lucky enough to get to the stage of being paid to play much then getting on with people and being 'low maintenance' is a sure-fire way of doing well. I know of one guy who is 10x the bass player I am, but I've had a substantial amount of dep work come my way because I'm far easier to exist with. As daft as it sounds, it's really important. If you're friendly without being creepy, helpful without being opinionated and decisive and driven without being the slightest bit dictatorial then you'll do well - after all, it's not like there aren't LOTS of alternatives out there if someone takes a dislike to you and decides not to put further work your way. Best of luck - it'll be an exciting journey and the advise you've been given here is great, but always keep perspective and have a few friends around you of the sort that are certain to say when you're being a bell-end. We all need people like that, or we'd all be like Prince. Cheers, James -
They are variable - when you get a good one then they are great, but if build quality concerns you then it really would be worth paying the extra to source from a local shop you can visit personally. I also find the fretted VMs to sound quite average too - make sure you try a CV first, just in case you prefer it - I know I did, and I liked the look (initially) of the VM more!

Hi everyone, This is my mid 80's Brandoni 'Custom' Jazz bass - please note that despite the headstock decal, it's not a real Fender, however Brandoni supplied these with blank headstocks, so it was crying out for something! I bought this used from ebay about 2 years ago, stupidly sold it and managed to buy it back and have never found a better playing, more comfortable Jazz - that's the truth! However, I'm now looking into Stingray options so not having any money or room, this will have to go. I've deliberately waited a while before listing this, and in fact have had it cased for the last month whilst gigging with my other bass and it's proved I can do without it. So what do we know about it? The original seller said that it was put together from parts by Brandoni of Wembley - they used to import good quality Japanese-sourced kits and a few got assembled into instruments in their own right - some later had headstock logos, but not this one. In the Bass Cellar in Denmark Street I recently saw one in much better condition and with a headstock transfer (but undoubtedly the same series) so they are out there, but fairly rare now. The body? Don't know what wood it is, and please don't ask me to weigh it as I simply can't but to me it is not a heavy bass and the balance is just great. Is it perfect? God no. This is dripping with genuine mojo and has been gigged extensively, I hope the photos reflect this - this is NOT a dodgy DIY relic job, but wear and tear earned on the road. When I bought it back from Fatos I thought it was going to need a refret, but having taken it to my local store, they say it'd get away with a fret stone, but it WILL be the last before a refret is needed. That said, I've not done anything yet and it still plays and sounds great! The electrics all work and I've shielded the cavity so it's pretty quiet! Bridge and machineheads and a bit scrappy but functional and reflect the age of the instrument. Quite simply, the neck on this bass is it's trump card - it's incredible, very thin and very comfortable if like me you have quite small hands - if you like a precision style neck, this is not for you. It comes with the case shown in the pictures and has recently had a new set of strings. POSTAGE: At this time of year, I'd really rather not make any promises regarding postage, therefore collection would be preferable by a long stretch - i'll happily make you a cuppa whilst you try it and of course you'd be welcome to walk away if it's not as I've described! That said, if you really, really, really must then I can investigate postage options, but would be stunned if it got to you this year, let alone this side of Christmas. PAYMENT / PRICE: That'd be cash on collection please! If having it posted then I'd consider Paypal, but you know the drill - gift payment please as the fees are pretty painful! Given that this is a far better bass, including a good hard case than could be bought anywhere new and I am NOT in a hurry to sell then I think £250 is more than fair. TRADES: Yes, I'd consider a trade for a Stingray of some shape, it's unlikely I can add much money to the trade, but try me? I realise there's a fair difference in valuation, but I'm stating this for completeness. Any questions just yell? In the unlikely event that you're still reading, I'll shut up now and post some pics - again, not great but I will do my best to get some better ones. PHOTOS:

Try it without the 1x15" - I've had very bad results mixing a 4x10" and a 1x15" before

I had a good go on the '77 this weekend. I wanted to really like it, as I'm a massive fan of the CV series. Sadly for me at least, it's got the same feeling neck that the VM Jazz has, but with those nice blocks - I was hoping for a really high gloss neck but it's not - a shame but I realise this is personal taste. The bridge is distictly average, and i'm not a basher of the BBOT but this does feel quite flimsy, certainly compared to the solid unit found on the CV. It also sounds really bright and quite powerful - not bad in itself, but compared to the warmer, if slightly lower output thump of the CV, it's a much harsher tone - I suspect this might make it cut through better, but to my ear this wasn't that pleasant. Maybe a string change would sort this. LOVE the fretless though, if only I could play one properly Cheers, James
