Hi all, Couple of issues with the digital camera at the moment, so will upload pics when back home tomorrow. I have for sale a no-name JapCrap precision copy. Maple neck and fingerboard. Sunburst body that appears to NOT be plywood - hurrah! I bought this for buttons, and then bought new machineheads, scratchplate, electronics and strings for it. Just needs a bit o' love and would make an ace project. Deffo needs a setup and the scratchplate does not fit well - neither did the previous one but that's part of the project fun! It's secure, but quite heath robinson! I'm not looking to turn a profit, but get back what I've spent, so it's a bargainous £50 - the cheapest JapCrap you'll find! Don't really want to post this, so come and collect (Herts) you'll get a FREE cup o' tea. Cheers, James

I played a couple yesterday and thought the necks were quite a bit chunkier than the 'rays I was comparing them with. I played a Tribute and a second hand USA-built 1500 (I think) and a couple of Rays, new and old. I actually thought the G&L sounded better, but the Stingrays were just that bit nicer to play, for me.

I think it's Cimar...it actually looks a bit like 'Ciman' but it's so faint it's almost impossible to be sure! -

Oooh, I'll play! Bought a no-name JapCrap P from ebay the other day for....£15! It's a 'Cimar' (is that good? I doubt it) as you can just see the outline of where the logo has been rubbed off. It has the typical black spray over the body contour, so I was convinced it was going to be ply, but nope! Solid wood! Needs a few things - new tuners and wiring fixing, but I'm happy enough for £15 Pics to follow! -
Just read the latest issue this evening. Only comment is what a bell-end Jeff Berlin comes across as in the letters page!

Geoff no longer owns it, it's a chap called Dave who's a very nice guy, but to my eyes the shop has seriously lost its way and is feeling very tired these days, especially in the bass department. They also don't have Barrie (their old tech), he defected to Gig Gear in Harlow - that room seems to be used as a photo studio now for some reason :S It's still well worth a look, and providing you get a sensible sales dood, then the service is still good but it's a bit pricey and you can't park for miles - grr! Cheers, James

What was the gear that you thought was poo, at the time...
My old Selmer Treble & Bass. I always thought it was one grim amp, but now they're supposedly cla££ic...
Yeah, you're right - saw one in Vintage £ (sorry, '&') Rare for a fair wedge. They were cack though, right? -
Inspired by an ebay trawl, I am staggered to see the price that Laney AOR / PRO TUBE guitar heads are fetching these days (or at least the prices that people are asking!) When I was first gigging, these were common as muck and could be picked up for nothing at all because no-one wanted them - no brand cache, and they didn't really sound that great! So, what was the gear that YOU passed up, or turned your nose up at that has subsequently gone on to sell for daft cash? Cheers, James

The 2x12 combo looks pretty much perfect, but I'd really want to hear one - wonder if they'll have it at the London Bass Show? Hmmmm....

I find it odd that Fender are expanding the VM Jazz, which in my opinion is massively inferior to the CV. If the CV had a few more paint options, I'm sure it'd continue to fly off the shelves (wouldn't affect me as I LOVE oly white).

Lovely guy, great deal and makes a blinding cuppa! Thanks a lot matey! Cheers, James

Here's one for you! If a bass amp puts out 300w at 4 ohms, but is fitted with an 8 ohm speaker - is there any way of wiring something in series/parallel with the internal speaker to make the amp 'see' 4 ohms and thus put the full welly through the one speaker? I'm SURE there must be a reason why this can't be done? Cheers, James

Huuuuuuuge Ampegs. I've never used them, but others that have used them say they are okay - pretty battered but get the job done, and some of the bands that rehearse are so loud it must seriously damage their hearing!
-
I've owned both, and didn't find 'my sound' in either - both of them suffered from a lack of punch, plenty of volume and lots of scope for different tones, but the difference when I moved to an Orange Bass Terror was HUGE. This is only my opinion however! They both weigh an absolute ton too, so be warned - also, neither are really transportable without a case as you WILL damage the knobs. My money would go on the LH500 if I had to chose between the two.

Nice bloke, a simple and easy deal and great communications! Can't be bad! Thanks markstuk! Cheers, James

Not sure what Andertons are smoking with the price of that though - it won't sell at £700. Not that it's not a fantastic amp, but second hand at that price is bonkers when you consider the prices they fetch elsewhere (I appreciate they have a warranty to give, VAT to pay too I guess - but still!)
