I've not been there in 3 or 4 years! However, AroundaboutSound used to be quite good, albeit very pricey. I found they were open to haggling though.

Yup, had this happen too...although the buyer in question didn't get in touch and caused me to waste an hours lunch break and get a parking ticket in the process! That said, overall my deals on here have gone very well and I've met some lovely people. Thankfully, the good outweigh the bad!

Let's see pics of the J!

Something, ANYTHING different to the usual. Nothing moody, nothing stood with your legs far apart and your arms crossed. Just try and avoid those cliches and do something different - inject a bit of humour into it too...it'll make you stand out against a crowd of poseurs.
-
Agree, it's ugly as sin, but I'd be interested to see how it performs.

I love 'em (clearly) but they won't be for everyone I suppose. That said, they strike me as a great example of a good jazz, and a good jazz is a great example of a fantastic bass! Shame they don't offer different colours - I was tempted with that Biffy Clyro bass, but I don't really like the idea of playing a signature model (or paying extra for it!)

I feel your pain, however there is one to be aware of here. Paypal WILL refund him and rule against you. Why? Because they can, and it's easier. In my experience, these claims are rarely looked into in much detail - they will reverse the transaction. It may be sensible to get closure now, let the guy know that YOU know the facts but are prepared to draw a line under the matter and move on. It sucks, but I believe it'll save you heartache in the long run. Cheers, James

Just received yesterday my second Squier Classic Vibe Jazz! I've recently realised that the CV Jazz is without doubt my favourite bass to play and I love the sound! So when searching for a good bass to use as a backup, it was the logical choice! The rest of my band think I'm weird (I'm not going to disagree), but if something works, why not! Anyone else in the same boat? Cheers, James

Hi John, Someone with vastly more knowledge than me can help better here (and correct me if I'm wrong!), however it is very possible that by over-driving an amplifier that it can induce DC clipping and fry the voice coil- less likely in big, brutish speakers like we're talking about, but still possible. The graunching, crunchy sound that comes when you push the speaker in and out manually is often a good indication of voice coil damage as it can actually melt! That said, I think if you were clear that you analyze your sound carefully and didn't hear any distortion etc. then no-one is likely to complain that the speaker 'only' saw 200w when capable of taking 300w. Cheers, James
Well - the reason I ask is this: I took the speaker out of my Ashdown cab when it failed. I looked at it again yesterday and spotted that it had a model number and a url for the company that made it printed on the magnet. I found the spec sheet which I've posted up there, which gives the two figures for rated and music power. Now, the back of the cab is marked 300W RMS - but if (in the real world) it only has a 250W speaker in the box, then would I be right in thinking that it's not up to the job? I got pretty much blanked by Ashdown when I told them I'd only had it a couple of years and had run it for about 100 hours of the course of those two years with less than 200W being pushed through it. What I want to do is get my facts straight before telling them I think that they've fitted something into the cab that they shouldn't have done and it's stopped working. Hence trying to establish which of the figures would be the one to argue with (or conversely mean I should just leave it alone!)
The trouble you will also have is that it's possible to damage a speaker with a rating of 300w, by only giving it 200w. Your ears would have told you, but underpowering can be just as deadly as overpowering! Good luck though - hope it works out for you! Cheers, James
Is this likely Matsumoku made? I can't speak for the 350, apart from to say I don't think it has much guts. I have a LG 1000 and it's not bad for the cash at all!

Oh joy, yet more Beatles-love...just what we need. I find it similar in nature to those people who can't mention England playing football without talking about 1966. I appreciate there are many many fans out there, but as you might have guessed, I'm not one.
2.) It's about time that ,cds/Dvd's come with each issue. There are loads of effects for bassplayers these days. There are even acoustic basses. So many mags have cds/Dvd's . If it's good enough for guitarists....
Noooooooooo! Please god not another coaster. It's a wasteful chance to make the cover price shoot up. NOTHING needs to be on a CD any more. Links to downloadable, or streaming sound files is more than enough, in my opinion! Cheers, James

Wowsers! That's some upgrade over the Vintage! Of course, this thread means nothing without pics! Cheers, James
Could be but unlikely. I would strongly advise following the advice above about pickup height. What I found useful initially with the Compact is to have it tilted back with a wedge under the front of the cab, which 'aims' the cab more toward your head. These days I raise the cab up off the floor entirely with a fold-away storage crate I take with me to every gig. I have absolutely no problem hearing what I play everywhere on whatever bass I use through this cab.
What about your audience though? If it's angled back at you, are they going to hear it? I'm looking forward to trying the loaner when it makes its way over here, but wonder if I'd have to consider running into the PA too, if it's that directional? Cheers, James
It was a nice car park though! Si
Yeah, we get it....secluded car park, interior light on, flash the sidelights three times... Nudge nudge, wink wink!

I'll probably get taken outside for saying this but: If you haven't, try a Squier Classic Vibe first. All I'm saying is try one. I did, I went to Machinehead Music with a clear credit card and tried every Jazz bass they had (which was, from memory 5-6). The roadworn wasn't one of them. I objectively played them head to head through a good amp and made my mind up almost instantly when I picked up the Squier. I've owned one of these in the past and stupidly sold it, I've got this one from Machinehead and I have another on the way to me. They won't be for everyone, and some people won't be able to get past the name on the headstock, but all I am saying is that EVERYONE in the market for a Jazz of any kind should at least try one! Cheers, James
