FOR SALE (Ebay): Squier Classic Vibe Goodness (+ Hard Case)
Moos3h replied to Moos3h's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Because today I sort of accidentally bought the Vintage Modified fretless.....whoops, how did that happen? I can't justify having the Classic Vibe P as well, so something had to go. Shame, but it's part of the United Household agreement of 2004. -
Deathpanda. Give Terry (TJC Guitars) a call: • Telephone: 01438 216342 • Fax: 01438 216342 • Email: He's easily half the price of any other luthier around here, turns the work over quickly and won't give you any rubbish and sell you things you don't need. He'll sort it out, I think you'll be able to get somewhere with the ebayer for the cost of a setup. Cheers, James

I think there's some Superfly users on here, but I have to say that I had one and thought it was a total stinker of an amp, lacking in Power, sounded lifeless and had an awful lot of operating noise. I'd look elsewhere, were it me. Go second hand and keep an eye out in the Classifieds here, always good gear floating around! Cheers, James

Sadly, it might have been at one time, but the lacquer job on that looks pretty dodgy....shame

You are welcome! I can see these things selling very well. They won't be for everyone, but what they do, they do very well!

Hi all, Just a quick review after having spent 45 mins with one today. This is NOT intended as a full on long-term review but will hopefully be of use to those of you who are interested in one, but cannot get to a shop to try it. GUITAR USED: Squier Classic Vibe Jazz / Squier VM Fretless Jazz CABINET USED: Marshall 15" 4 Ohm Okay, so let's begin. Firstly, the thing is TINY - they are not kidding when they say these things are portable. Light enough to be carried in one hand, but very sturdy feeling with the strong metal chassis and handle. The controls on the front are simple and clearly marked, and the the power switch features a useful 'standby' mode - this isn't really to help protect the valves as such, but would be useful in the absence of a dedicated 'Mute' switch. Input jack on the front with passive/active button and the EQ controls. Seperate gain and volume mean YOU have control of the amount of edge to the sound. Other connections such as the DI are on the side and speaker connections and mains to the rear. SOUND: So this is really what I wanted to know, can something class D erase the bad memory of the Ashdown Superfly in my mind? The answer to this is a resounding yes! The first thing to know is there is a LOT of volume on tap. I was using a 4 ohm cab and the full 500w was available to me, and it felt like it. I would say that the output level here in terms of useable volume was on a part with the Hartke LH500 and Peavey Tour 450 heads. The basic tone is VERY warm and punchy - we're not talking Trace Elliot levels of glassiness here, but something more earthy and gutsy, almost more 'natural' and it's a very likeable tone. There is no doubt you could use this for a variety of genres, but we feel VERY at home with Rock, Blues and even some Jazz too, such is the warmth on tap. All of the EQ controls make a big difference and small adjustments are quickly audible, as a result you can coax a lot of different tones out of this, but my favourite came from everything flat, with just a touch of treble to counter the fact I was running through a 15" cabinet. The Gain and Volume controls interact very well, this is a very familiar setup to anyone who has had a valve guitar amp (stick with me) in as much as the nicest sounds come from the master volume being set at approx 12 o clock and then gain to taste, if you need more or less volume, then make your adjustments from that point - it's chucking out a decent amount of welly there, but it really feels organic and natural, not at all the sterile and lifeless 'Digital' sound that I was panic'd about! Operation noise? Well, yes, there's a bit, but again this is only typical of the amount of power on tap - with a well shielded bass, there's nothing out of the ordinary. Home users MAY get a touch irritated by the fan as when the amp heats up, this seemed to speed up and did get noisier, chances are that most people wouldn't notice this as the amp is LOUD by this point. So would I buy one? Yep. Easy as that, it's a good fit with the type of music I like, it's small, has truckloads of power and sounds good from the get-go, no fiddling required. RECOMMENDED.

Personally-speaking, I think that as you've had the bass for two weeks, this is really your problem now. It is down to the buyer, in my opinion, to look at the instrument once it arrives and evaluate there and then if it matches the description. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a downer here, and I feel for you that you're unhappy with your bass, but I really think two weeks is too late to leave it, how would an independant body know that you hadn't caused half of the damage mentioned? It's worth getting in touch and explaining you are not happy, but unless the seller's tone is agressive enough to make you dig your heels in, I would write it off to experience.
Is almost everyone on this forum in covers bands? Cause the world of touring underground/experimental musics is a world away from any of these stories.
Yep, the difference is that covers bands get paid at all! (Said with tongue in cheek.....before anyone starts)

The neck on the Classic Vibe is worth the purchase price alone too! Fabbo!
Yep, i did have been to denmark street and when i went into the bass cellar(is that whats its called the all bass shop) i thought it was really good, they were nice and let me play well the 3 bass's i asked to play. In waltons your not allowed to play anything at all.
Really? That's a shame, I usually get there once or twice a year and often spend anything up to an hour fiddling about. I'm yet to buy anything from them either! I will one day, I'm sure...just have to wait for the exchange rate to sort itself out!

Sod Watford Valves. Check out www.lean-business.co.uk - Much Celestion cheapness!

Worst music shop in the world? You've never been to Demark Street then?

Hi all, Have just snared one of these sight unseen (not wise I know) as I want a combo option for times i don't want to haul a stack around with me. Who's used one? Anything to watch out for? The one I have has had a speaker 'upgrade' so I MAY consider one of those Celestion Neo's instead if I don't like the tone. Cheers, James

Hi mate. Get yourselves a Zoom H4 or H2 portable audio recorder and record yourselves at a gig. £150 ish should do it and records straight to MP3, the quality is SUPERB! Re: your drummer - it's not just a loudness thing, but a question of light and shade. The constant crashing is something that needs reigning in or you risk every song being delivered at a similar level and this gets very tiring as a listener. Took me a long time to realise this when I drummed, but it's an important thing to work on or the whole band suffers. Cheers, James

Only listened to listen to Honky Tonk Woman, but to be honest the vocals on the chorus are pretty ropey. The other thing is the production (especially on the vocals and drums) is incredibly lifeless and this really doesn't help. Again, only in my opinion, your drummer REALLY needs to lay off the Crash. Cheers, James

Hi all, I have just bought an amp which I am yet to hear, but fingers crossed it still works! However, regardless, i'd like to get it a service. Can anyone suggest anyone in Herts, North London or Bedfordshire? Close to Stevenage/Hertford would be great. Thanks! James
-
Indeed, nice to hear. A lot of unimaginative guitar stores 'blame' GAK for the box-shifting 'pile it high, sell it cheap' mentality, but it's great that there's good service in there too.

Matthew Kelly once said I was 'sounding good'. I shall start bids on the Strat I was playing at the time, at $8,000. I accept Western Union.
-
Have you heard the Mini 15? The only reason I say this is that you might want to listen to one first as the reduced cabinet size gives a much more focussed sound with less bottom end than you might expect from a traditional 15" I personally didn't like them and went for a MAG 15" as I felt it gave a more expansive low end. You may feel totally different!

Will 2 neck Jazz pickups sound like a neck and bridge?
Moos3h replied to umcoo's topic in Bass Guitars
I think the bridge pickup is usually wider to accomodate the string spacing increasing as you get closer to the bridge. Cheers, James -
Waltons World of Music Love those shops, the owners should put me on the Payroll (or charge me rent!)

Alright, Mr Popular. We get it. You've got loads of friends. Next you'll be moaning about what a hardship it is carrying round such a heavy trouser-sausage all the time. Giving you a bad back is it?
