What do you want to do? Is it scratched/scuffed? If so then a bit of Scratch X followed by Gold Class would do the job. I used Autoglym Super Resin polish. Fabbo.

I doubt that anyone is saying 'OMFG GET 10001kW' for a laugh here. I am a regularly gigging bassplayer and can only tell you of my own experiences, which are that I would personally recommend 300w and above for peace of mind. You MIGHT be able to get away with half of that, but driving solid state amplifiers hard all night is not a generally great idea. As someone said above, efficiency is king. I sound far louder with an Eden 4x10 and a 300w GK head now, than I did with a 4x10 AND a 15' from a 600w head. This is because the Eden is incredibly efficient. There are times I still wish I had the 15, not for the volume but the uber-lows, but then I get over it and play some music. The same is also true for power amps - sadly some amps just seem louder, regardless of wattage. Anyone that has owned an old Peavey will know what I am talking about here. Likewise, some people have been dissapointed by the massive wattages claimed by some digital amps (i'm thinking Ashdown Superfly and Little Giant here). It's not always about having what will just do it and scrape by, having some power in reserve is a seriously good thing. Some people may say 'you never need that much power on stage', however it's my experience that not all bands and venues have a PA capable of having bass guitar through it (and the monitor mix), nor would always want it. Everyone's setup is likely to be different, so it makes sense to go for something, if practical, that will exceed your requirements, not just meet them. * Edited to attempt to make me sound less of a prat * Cheers. 300w minimum, less than that will struggle to give you enough headroom with all but the quietest of drummers!

Tell us more about your PA setup - makes and models etc. You shouldn't be blowing tweeters if adequate crossovers are in place unless you are overpowering them significantly, or driving your power amp so hard that you drive it into clipping. Let us know more details and we can better advise.

Yeah, but I reckon people would be afraid of fakes on there (I know I would) - my Dragon's Den pitch is to effectively underwrite the genuine-ness of the vouchers for sale by employing a truck load of guys in white coats to study the vouchers with magnifying glasses....

I've often thought about setting up a company that buys and sells gift vouchers - I wonder if such a thing exists. So, someone is given a £100 voucher, my company would buy it for £65, flog it for £80 and make £15 on the deal etc. As long as you were able to sell them on then you could turn over a fair bit like that I reckon - plenty of people get lumbered with vouchers they can't use! I know they are totally different designs, but the three Ashdowns that I have had that exhibit this problem have all had 'dry solder joints'. Where and why, I don't know. But that was the diagnosed cause!

I'd be looking at the power amp tubes first off. When was the last change and rebias (if necessary on that model)?

I have recently dealt with Nik for his Kay bass. Sadly, despite good packing on his behalf, the couriers managed to damage it resulting in a hefty bill for its repair. Nik has been superb in arranging a claim under the insurance and although we're still awaiting the outcome, I can't fault him at all and am so glad I bought the bass from someone so honest, helpful and friendly! His communication throughout has also been excellent. Deffo recommended and a very positive experience, regardless of the heavy-handed fools responsible for the damage! Cheers, James

It's a Kay through neck....has quite a bit of neck dive, but I don't know where I could move the pin to. Tricky.

Hi all, Need to find a nice wide strap that will cure neck dive. My current bass has 'arse in the air' tendencies and it's getting on my moobs. Don't mind if it's leather or not, but the one I have at the mo is 3.5" leather and quite shiny so doesn't help matters. Cheers! James

I'm sure plenty of people will shoot me down here, but I don't trust strings that have been 'dismounted' (if that's the right word) and then re-strung. I'm sure they'd probably be okay, but to me it just feels like pushing my luck....sorry to hear of your troubles!
